  1. What do you guys think of the arcade game World of Tanks http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_of_Tanks? For me it can be fun at times but usually the fun gets interrupt by: The almost absolute lack of realism Horrific team play in random matches - One has to or should be in a clan to actually be successful Tiny maps - The actual size of most maps do not correspond to real world dimensions. Most maps aren't larger than 1km x 1km Limited spotting system - Suddenly disappearing tanks even if they are out in the open while everything else around them can be seen. A limitation of the render engine supposedly. Lack of true armored warfare tactics - Unrealistic tactics such as city brawling are used at times. I came under the impression that armored units avoid close combat because it can negate potential armor protection advantages. Wide open maps are rare, making long range engagements often times impossible. Most of the maps that are supposedly be fairly open terrain are usually cluttered with objects (i.e.giant rocks in the middle of nowhere). Given the limited size of the maps makes true flanking maneuvers difficult at best: hitpoints/healthpool - Often, to actually destroy a tank one has to wear down the tanks healthpool. Often times it can take more than 5+ penetrating hits to do so. There are occasionally ammo rack hits that damage the tank severely, but they are seldom. On two occasions I lost because of this healthpool issue. My first situation was with my jagdpanther tank destroyer when i unloaded 2 rounds point blank from my 88 mm L71 gun into the upper part of the superstructure of a jagdpanzer 4. Miraculously the jagdpanzer 4 survived. My second unusal encounter was with my 57 ton tiger 1E when i encountered an amx 13/90. I was able to put two armor piercing round point blank into the side of this 15+ ton tank but again because of this healtpool-hitpoint mess he was able to make it. Since i was already damaged he was able to knock me out. :decu:
  2. +dta delta,Gibsonm, Killjoy. Upgrading the user friendliness of the mission editor would be really helpful, in particular ability to copy and paste items , units, etc. More crewable opfor vehicles would be really nice as well(+T-90S...). Getting the M1a2 sep crewable would finally give the Abrams line a direct counterpart to the Leopard 2E, most certainly a welcomed addition. :drink:
  3. What are the armor profiles of the T-72m4 and T-80u tanks? Was the t-72m4 supposed to have same level of combat effectiveness as the T-80u ? How does the t-72M4 compare to a T-90A ?
  4. Hello Ssnake, Yes, i meant in SB Pro PE. But i have might jumped the gun a bit. The DM33 hit at around 2000 m on the front of the turret temporarily disabled the stabilization of the main gun. It was fixed in less than a minute. No major damage was caused. On the other hand, another round also shot at around 2000 m was able penetrate the turret front (second picture). The penetration of the lower front hull, shown in the first picture occurred at fairly close range at around 200 m (last picture). I did not realize that at first. Thanks for your help !
  5. Hello, I have a question concerning the frontal armor and hull protection of the M1A2 SEP tank. I was surprised that a DM33 could actually damage an M1A2 if hit in the turret face head on and even destroyed when hit in the glacis "beak" of the hull. What are the armor estimates of the m1a2 sep again? The SB wiki information on it seems to be out of date. P.S: I still cant believe that the armor penetration of a CHARM 3 round on the British challenger 2 is just 500 mm at a rather "average" max effective range of 3500 m. Isnt the 55 calibre L30 rifled gun supposed to give a "longer" reach than regular 120 mm (L44) main gun tubes? The offensive capabilities of the challenger 2 seem to be rather mediocre. It seems to me that the tank could have serious issues against tanks like the T80u and T90A. By the way where does the T72m4 rank in general compared to the t80u, t72b,t72m1,etc. How good is its armor protection compared to the other tanks?
  6. Hello Everyone, Does anyone know the actual combat weight figures for the hull and turret of the following Merkava variants? 1 Merkava Siman 1 (Mk 1) 2 Merkava Siman 2 (Mk 2) 3 Merkava Siman 2 Daled (Mk 2D) 4 Merkava Siman 3 BAZ (Mk 3 Baz) 5 Merkava Siman 3 Daled (Mk 3D) 6 Merkava Siman 4 (Mk 4) 7 Merkava Siman 4 Mem (Mk 4M) Trophy/Aspro Any reliable information would be appreciated. Thanks ! Sorry did not know where else to put this thread.
  7. I got my motherboard to run again by reseting it by briefly removing the CMOS motherboard battery. Now i am back at the same point i left originally with the CM stick not being recognized. When i attempt to open the WebAdmin i get an error message "FTP 500?" , it does not say that "there is no CmStick or CmAct license found" in case i had not plugged in the the CM Stick at all.
  8. Yes, I bought a license for it . I am just surprised that it gave me issues like that. I plugged the meter into my laptop that also has Steel Beast (2.640) on it and it worked. I tried the dongle on my pc again, it was recognized and this time it worked again somehow. Sadly, after trying to select the terrasim map my pc froze up and would not load Windows again. I can not even get to the BIOS, the fans spin up but all i get is a black screen. This is rather weird:decu: Did my motherboard, an ASrock Z68 Pr03, just die on me?
  9. I am having a problem with my cm stick as well. When i plug the CM stick unto a USB port and want to run steel beasts i get the following error massage: CodeMeter error: Please ensure your your CM stick is securely in a USB port. The CM stick does light up green for a few seconds then flashes green and red and then it turns off. Could it be that my CM stick is broken? I ran it the previous night without any problems. My Specs: Windows 7 (64 Bit) 8 GB RAM i5 2500k CPU GTX 560 TI FPB The previous night with 4 GB of RAM the machine was able to run Steel Beasts Pro PE 2.640 at around 60 FPS with this configuration. The frame rate dropped down to 40 FPS in some tank interiors thou, which is still leaps and bounds better than my previous setup performance. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank You !
  10. I would really like to see a Leclerc Series 2 or 3 and a Merkava (I-IV) in the Sim in the not so distant future. The Merkava in particular would certainly bring something unique in terms of armor to the Sim. :debile2: A crewable M1A2 SEP would also definately be pretty sweet. To be able to use RPG like weapons directly, just like the ATGMs now, would also rock. (Some Asian hardware for good measure too.)
  11. Here are two pics that show a Leclerc Series 3 (6/12 Regiment de Cuirassiers) and a Leopard 2a6 (Panzerbattalion 33) racing eachother. :smilelove-1: These screen caps come from the Leclerc in Germany Video made by Perfect Scale Modellbau. Its an interesting addition for any leclerophiles. Does anybody know if the Leclerc (whatever variant) could be added to the to this upcoming grande update ?
  12. :eek2:The Leclerc tank (Series 2 and 3) is quite a good and capable vehicle that can take on any other tank (Leopard 2a6+, Abrams M1A2 SEP+, Challenger 2, T-90, ZTZ 99, Merkava 4, C1 Ariete, etc.) and win. It is not a slouch by any stretch of the imagination. I can't wait until either series 2 or 3 are implemented as a pure AI controlled or crew-able vehicle :remybussi:
  13. I sense evil approaching..... and btw Alpha you were mean
  14. Hello KAreil, I think the Leopard 2a6(EX,E,HEL,M) is a top of the line vehicle that is up there, but i would not consider any tank the best tank in the world unless enough data is available that cover armor, protection, mobility, communication and battlefield integration of the various vehicles thoroughly side by side. ===> A thorough and objective professional technical report would be needed. An "I think..." is unprofessional and would really not cut it in any part of such a report. Examples of poor reasoning: So the leopard 2's official max speed is 72 km/h and an Abrams' is usually around 68 km/h . Henceforth the Leopard 2 must have superior mobility. The m1a2 Abrams weighs about 63 metric tons compared to the leopard 2E 62.5 metric tons. Henceforth the Abrams m1a2 must be the better protected. Both of these examples ignore a lot of variables. We would really have to ask ourselves what "mobility" is. How do we define mobility? Usually, In terms of mobility i would look at max speed forward and backward, ability to stop if needed, ability to turn on different surfaces. I would also look at each tanks deep water wading ability. I would ask myself questions like: 1) Does the tank carry the equipment to perform such an operation. 2) How long does it take to prepare the tank for the operation. 3) How long does it take to prepare the tank for regular operation again ? etc. There is probably a lot of other variables that come play when talking about mobility (i.e.fuel economy,range,etc.). The differences in overall technical performance between an M1A2 SEP V2, Leopard 2a6 , Challenger 2, Leclerc (series 3), K2, Merkava 4, etc. might be exceedingly small (maybe even negligible). In general, the best "insert anything here" type of talk irritates me a lot. Its usually people with little or no information talking blah blah. One "expert" might have some insights into one top-of-the-line weapon system's abilities but not the "other". Its almost as bad as the "he/she is the most beautiful person in the world" type of talk. I can't believe that magazines are publishing this type of unscientific rubbish. :decu: Even my assumption that the Leclerc has a "superior" armor layout is a guesstimate based on what I have read or seen. In the end, without enough technical info on both the vehicles its impossible to determine what is trully "superior" or the "best". And FletchRDG, I don't think a leopard 2a6 would maul a Leclerc or m1a2, Challenger2, or even T-90 for that matter. If the crews are of equal quality then things could get nasty for either side. It would not be like engaging a stationary iraqi t-55 or T-72 Assad Babyl that we can be fairly sure of. These are just my two cents:)
  15. :cul:Hey KAreil, I think the Leclerc (series 1, 2, or 3) would kick a leopard 2a4's a$$. I am fairly confident that the Leclerc has a superior armor layout ,superior acceleration and maneuverability as well a more advanced fire control system than a Leopard 2a4. The Leclerc's weakness is its economics.
  16. I have to agree with DarkLabor and Froggy, it would be awesome to have a Leclerc (series 1,2 or 3) by Christmas/new year. Running around the prairie with a Leclerc would be so awesome !:cul: But i guess that is wishful thinking
  17. Mighty Dejawolf your reputation precedes you! Do you have any pictures of the Leclerc you made for Steel Beasts Pro ? And yesterday in D.C. , I asked one of the tankers if they used Steel Beasts Pro. His response was that they have their own equipment. I wish I could brew up some Abrams butt in steel beasts pro with a Leclerc. I wonder who would come out on top :sonic:
  18. What is the Iris TI ? I also went to D.C. today and took some snapshots of the "supposed" best tank in the world :?, the M1A2 SEP V2, according to the soldiers that were there. How could i post the pics ?
  19. Tacbat , I don't think the Leclerc (series 1,2, or 3) will be a slouch or an Iragi T-72 Assad Babyl in combat. You might end up with a sabot round through the side of your tank's turret wondering what just happened. Froggy I heard that the Leclerc (not the AZUR version) carries ERA. But I thought its armor consisted of a Boron carbide/steltexolite/special rubbery foam/tungsten composite matrix thinly sandwiched in between layers of steel (triple hardened) and spaced in a modular configuration around the 19 ton turret front. I also read that the series 3 (XXI) incorporates titanium instead of / or in conjunction with the triple hardened steel. How can that configuration be ERA ? I hope one day the Leclerc (series 1,2 or 3 or future version) will be added. It's my favourite tank. It is so sexy :smilelove-1:
  20. How and when could we see a French or UAE Leclerc tank appearing for Steel Beasts Pro? :frown:
