  1. My subscription to ZoneAlarm is set to expirre and I am not going to renew it. So I've researched all the virus/firewall options and so far I'm leaning towards Bitdefender or Avast. Prior to making a decision I'd like to hear from those who have actually used either. What are your opinions and would you recommend either and why? I am open to other suggestions.
  2. I have the same problem and never even realized it. See attached scenario. Leo 2 emplacement 2 tier: Check out the emplacements for the red side on the hill where the large tower north of the town center map is located. There are emplacements all around it and all are no more than a foot or even inches deep in appearance. I've tried removing and replacing them. removing and saving the scenario then closing the editor, reopening it and replacing with no luck. I gave up working on this scenario months ago because it was just too easy to kill the tanks on the hill and it never occured to me that the reason was the red units might as well have been sitting out in the open because the emplacements were just inches deep. Tried messing around with it a while back with no further luck. Maybe I'm getting senile and am missing something really simple. NewBuild-A1.rar
  3. When I was 48 and started playing SB1 I could start a session cold and over 5 or 6 tries average high 80's to low 90's. Eventually I'd work my way up to a 98 and once got a clean round and shot 100 after about 30 consecutive tries over a 3 or 4 hour period. Now at 60 I'm lucky to break 70 with an occasional 74 or 75. I mostly play from the map now.
  4. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Proof Positive that: Some people really are TOO stupid to LIVE!
  5. Programming units (be they military or planned civilian/neutrals) to run when they find them selves in the middle of a battle wouldn't be difficult at all and can be done now with the editor. It's just a matter of creating a leave the area path and defining a get the hell out of dodge condition that works off of casualties. For example for green troops you could set the bail out criteria to something like casualties>=20, trained make it 30, for blooded maybe 40 for veteran 50 etc, etc To implement the above is fairly simple. Create an area that covers a range of, say 100m or so around the unit you want to bail and if they see non-friendly or even friendly combat units in that area they bug out or you could condition the bugout based on criteria like is set in para 1. An obvious method would be to just check to see if they had been fired on but then by that time its probably too late. As others have stated IRL non-combatants don't always bugout. Building in bugout routines would limit the options scenario designers now have.
  6. Searched steam for IFL1944 - no joy. You guys really got to stop abbreviating. What is IFL1944?
  7. One wonders why go to all the trouble to design a new engine when there are some really good ones available for license?
  8. Never gets old. Thanks
  9. A minor, very minor grin/chuckle at 30 sec. Next was at 2:21 and that dog and cupcake scene cracked me up!
  10. A crewable M-60A1 w/steroscopic rangefinder and no stabilization.
  11. Man... A lot of you guys are way way too young for your dongle to not be working. What's up with that? Wait... Whuhhht? Uhhhhh - never mind. Wrong forum - wrong site. Nothing to see here. Move along.
  12. Crewable M-60A1... With that, the Leo 1 that Eisenschwein wants some early 70's soviet v NATO scenarios could be built that showed you yung'uns how real tankers without all the bells and whistles y'all have now had to do it.
  13. Not a stupid question at all. But yes I do have the latest flash player.
  14. Quick thread hijack... No matter what IE9 settings I use I can never see the videos that Daskal posts. Other vids show up but not his. They show up fine when I'm using Firefox but not being a fan of that particular browser it is rarely used. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this. NOTE: If your only suggestion is to use Firefox please don't waste the bandwidth.
  15. Y'all may want to read some reviews of CM before buying it. There's lots of 'em around - read em - because they are spot on. CM has issues - has since it's inception. Atrocious path finding, dumber than dirt AI - and wierdnesses in the damage and hit model/routines. I've got both CM1 and CM2. Both have the above issues and it seems nothing has changed since CM:Shock Force. Most reviewers and forum commenters believe the problems are even worse and from what I can tell even the latest 1.32 patch hasn't fixed the problems. If you can suspend your disbelief the CM games are good for a quick stress reliever beer and pretzels 3D pretty good graphics game. If you're looking for a serious simulation IMO looking elsewhere wouldn't be a bad choice. That said: CM is on sale this weekend.
  16. Where are those unique looking buildings and houses coming from? Never seen those in the editor of my vs of Pro PE.
  17. That is some really detailed and excellent advice re: system security Skybird. Thanks I was intrigued by your reference to a sandbox tool and looked up your recommended sandboxie. On the surface it looks like a good way to protect one's system but based on the way the website describes the way it works - well - there are issues. I have games that update themselves - how would that work. Steam updates steam games from within the steam client - i.e. game updates are dl'd and run from the steam client - again how would that work? Seems to me that the sandbox would prevent that from happening. If one dl's a file from within a browser running from inside a sandbox and no changes are allowed to be made by a file running from within a sandbox how does one dl files using a browser? Probably I don't fully understand the process. What am I missing?
  18. I remember when all graphics were done with ASCII characters back in the old TRS-80 days. IIRC the very 1st MS Flight Simulator was done that way circa '82 or so. We've come a long way baby. One can't help but wonder where and how games will be presented 20 years from now. Plug it into your head and you're there???? Not beyond the realm of possibility IMO.
  19. Actually I started doing just that when I tried to upload the 1st of around 10 or so I wanted to share. After about the 3rd one the time it took and the loss of image quality (which is one of the things I wanted to showcase) resulting from having to compress the JPG down to around 20% made it no longer worth the effort. I had already posted the original when I decided to add images but found I could not delete the message. I have no problem with the board's image limits - in this rare case though they got in the way of what I was posting. So I deleted it all and moved on.
  20. Deleted due to image size restrictions... Why is there no delete message option...
  21. While the question of Code Meter is up: When looking at the Control Panel and installed stuff I see two versions of the codemeter/wibu stuff. 4.40a and 4.40c. Seems strange: Which one do I need for SB vs 2.654? Can I uninstall the other version without creating a problem?
