  1. That's cool. I learn something new everyday.
  2. Yeah, I just confirmed it in the mission editor. It just rolled right past a T-72 at night. The M1025 didn't, though. Is it safe to assume the scouts in the M1025 have some sort night vision device? They were able to spot the tank from 2 kms out.
  3. Is there a thermal sight on this vehicle in SB?
  4. Yes, with annoying frequency at times. Keeps you on your toes, though. Frequent survivability moves are sometimes needed, and it pays to locate and destroy the Opfor's FO vehicle at the earliest opportunity.
  5. I feel your pain, Scrapper. We don't have proper Opfor kit for a Soviet motorized rifle regiment. But you come close to one. It would be nice if there was a dedicated scenario development team, but I can appreciate how we have the opportunity to create with relative ease. Heck, I could spend hours in the mission editor, and not even touch a pre-fab mission, and be happy.
  6. ^ Oh, and you'll seldom see a brigade marching along a single route. Two or more routes would be more common in planning a brigade-sized movement.
  7. ^ Which is realistic. Units in a march column are usually highly vulnerable anyway. Even more so if they were bunched up. Not only should there an interval between vehicles in the platoon, but also between platoons, and companies.
  8. Yes, I passed Map Reading & Land Nav at SOI. Just trying to develop a platoon BP, and I wanted to measure distance between individual vehicle positions. I think the LOS tool will do nicely.
  9. I think I may know the answer to this, but is there a way to measure distance on the map? I'm assuming that there may some utility in that pink cone shape that appears when put a unit into a BP?
  10. Well, dang! Looks like you just out-flanked us, Ssnake.
  11. Belay my last post. It IS just counter-recon. I just have to blind Opfor by killing his recon, then report where his main body is going. I don't HAVE to attrit the main body. Thanks for clearing that up!
  12. It's the fixing and destroying of the FSE that bothers me. I'm confident I can nail the CRP, but the FSE may be 10+ vehicles, including tanks. What will qualify as destruction, sir?
  13. Well, I suppose it would take an Opfor column longer to travel 400m, versus 50m. I had not thought of that before. I'm sure there's a way to figure out how to hit a moving target with the airstrike, but that would be taxing my brain housing group at the moment.
  14. I don't have enough assests to accomplish my mission here! I thought I was just supposed to let the CO know where the main effort was going. Now I have to kill Opfor's recon, AND attrit his main body? Sheesh.
  15. Great ideas. This TOE will be for the "Army of Excellence," post ODS, pre OIF. I will be concentrating on four formations: the mechanized infantry battalion, the tank battalion, the "heavy" division cavalry squadron, and the armored cavalry squadron.
  16. The TO&E would be specific to Steel Beasts, but very generic. I suppose this would go under the scenario design section? I'm a stickler for authenticity in a scenario. I figure this would help encourage those who feel the same way about scenario design.
  17. I just wanted to know if there was any interest out there for tables of organization and equipment, for U.S. Army mounted forces. I've created one for myself, but I'd like to share it. Maybe someone can add it to the Wiki?
  18. Ugh. I remember spending hours in MOPP 4. That really sucked. But, it was great training!

    What if?

Interesting. Pre-emptive attack is the greatest fear leading up to the opening offensive in "Red Army." That appears to be when the Soviets would have most vulnerable. I guess that fear was well-founded, then.
  20. Yes, it was approaching 2AM by the time I had finished reading the most recent posts, and viewing the vid. I'll have to catch up on earlier action, though.
  21. Wow. That was great, guys! Very entertaining! Looked like a lot of fun, too. The account of Gibson's recce was a nail-biter, and a great lead-in to the scenario start. I'll have to seriously consider joining a session one of these days. I applaud everyone for keeping it so authentic. Very well done.
  22. Ugh. Steel Beasts is dominated by MOUNTED warfare. Can we please keep it that way? That's why I love this game, because mounted combat is the focus. I'm sure ArmA is a great game, but has a completely different focus (FPS?).
