Make your Own Alternative Ground textures. I've written a program similar to the program I used to make the original tiles for the game. But with many improvements. Produces Tesselating Fractal ranges with user definable colours. The fact that they tesselate means that you don't get any obvious tiling. Has facilities for adding shading. Not really possible due to the limitations of using a strict gridded data set for height. The grid size is 12.5 m (just a tad under) so your steepest angle will be 12.5/height.

i built a new system recently using an 8800 card. to start with i had problems with things like trees flickering in and out of existence. I found that changing the z-buffer from 24 bit to 16 bit solved this.

If you can "do" science fiction i would heartily reccomend the Hammers Slammers series by David Drake. The Author is a veteran of Vietnam and this comes accross in his work which is gritty and brutal at times. My Favourite of them is Rolling Hot which is based on the Tet Offensive (obviously in a Sci-Fi guise). The books are predominantly collections of short stories. a couple of the maps i made for Pro were inspired by these books.

Panther Not quite true there. From what i've read it was the only US vs NVA tank battle of the vietnam war. However i think you'll find the ARVN and NVA mixed it up at least once too ( around Dak To )
