  1. ...The Russians would be pretty much forced to rely on whatever supplies survive allied air strikes in Kaliningrad. I couldn't foresee resupply. :)

Your belief that NATO would bomb the Russian (non contiguous) mainland as part of some NATO treaty induced obligatory defense of Lithuania is optimistic IMHO, Reagan and Thatcher are gone. Besides they would resupply and probably also invade through Belarus. They are pretty chummy and according the center of knowledge in the known universe, Wikipedia, "The union of Russia and Belarus, a supranational confederation, was established in a 1996–99 series of treaties that called for monetary union, equal rights, single citizenship, and a common foreign and defense policy." (emphasis mine).

  2. 3.002 yes, seriously.

If I were you, I would not talk crap about the new version simply because you are unable to work one of its most simple features. Simply checking the menu while in game or reading the release notes would have provided you the information you needed.

You are henceforth known as the boy who cried wolf...

  3. I was just looking at the screenshots again, and something looked funny. I couldnt put my finger on it, and than it dawned on me. the trees dont cast any shadows in any of the screenshots.

Is this on purpose? Forgive me if this was mentioned previously in this 75 page thread, but if I read anything along those lines, I have forgotten.

  4. Perhaps, if you are bone idle / lazy.

Yes there is no 24/7 adult child minding facility where you can just drop in when you are bored.

There are some 65+ pages of posts in the multiplayer section about Virtual Units, most of which meet weekly or more than once weekly and numerous multiplayer events.

Things like IPs and Time Zones are published - you just have to READ.

In early June we ran one for 13 hours.

Surely regardless of what time zone you are in you could have visited that!!!

I frequently meet up with people from the US, UK, Germany, Finland, elsewhere in Australia and New Zealand (all at the same "time").

What part of the planet do you live in that isn't covered by that grouping?

Hmm, well, with a jackass reply like that to someone you probably have never spoken to, is it any wonder that a new player reading that would not want to go to a Teamspeak channel that you were in, wondering if they would be lectured by a pompous ass? If you are a member or leader of one of these VUs, I say you represent them poorly and can be thanked for some people not attending their games no matter how well announced in advance.

Pii dont listen to all that crud. You don't have to read too far into many of those VU threads before you will see him telling everyone why he cant make it because the time isn't convenient for him.

Show up when you can and chances are you can get a game going with whoever is on the Teamspeak at that time.

  5. ...

    The 109s don't worry me :)

So its your contention that those trucks will stand up to a battery of ICM, or do you believe that they will never get within range? Either assumption is foolish if you ask me...

So you have unloaded and then unboxed 155mm ammo?

I have seen a M-109 loaded from a FAASV, easily simulated by said truck. Does not simulating a crew unpacking 120MM rounds slow a Leo-2s rate of fire in SB? I dont see what the point is here?

  7. There is a great user demand for a method of quickly and efficiently populating maps with buildings etc. It shouldnt take hours to put buildings down and orient them. Thats the reason most maps have few buildings.

Not everyone has the ability to use shape files to add these things to a map.

  8. My thought upon reading this was that if its your first campaign maybe you should resist the urge to take a XO/ Co Cdr job in the first place. There were plenty of people who were familiar with SB and its limitations and who had read and understood the campaign rules who could have acted as the Blue XO.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, I'm just saying know your limits. Everyone that has been around a while, knows about the no map updates, the limits of helos etc. Your not covering any new ground there. Many of these things are said to be addressed in the next update, so there is good news.

  9. At the risk of irritating the apparently self appointed wishlist approval authority by not rechecking 125 pages of posts, how about more engineering assets (GMZ-3 and Volcano mine layer, TMM-6 bridgelayer etc) and more playable soviet equipment (BMP1+2, BRDM AT), also improved dug in vehicle positions.

  10. E miner, you are correct, the vehicle fighting positions need to be redone. They are too shallow and have an pile of spoil, which should be dispersed, piled in front of the vehicle. How much ballistic protection does a pile of loose dirt provide? Even though there are those here who would tell you the emplacements are fine, these emplacements are not to standard by the Field Manual that covers these things for the US Army. Besides not being deep enough, they are painfully obvious when viewed from the front. They dont function properly on terrain that isnt flat. That is the reason they usually arent even bothered with when included in a multiplayer scenario, even when they are included by the designer.

If a two tiered position is made up of a hull down portion and a turret down portion, than it should use these dimensions. The minimum dimensions for turret defilade for an M1 series tank is 32 ft length 18 ft wide and 9 ft deep. The roof of a M-1 tank is 7.79 or basically 8 ft deep. So there shouldnt be much M-1 visible in the deep part of a two tiered position if you ask me.

I understand that in real life there is never enough engineer support nor time to get perfect positions dug, but if this is a training tool, why not use items that are depicted as being "to standard"? I only say this as the "training tool" argument is used when I ask about the M240 jamming or failing as quickly as it does when in real life it will happily fire until the cows come home.

  11. Dont confuse normal maps with height maps or terrain maps.

    http://wiki.polycount.com/NormalMap/

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_mapping

    http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-236/normal-maps/

"A Normal Map is usually used to fake high-res geometry detail when it's mapped onto a low-res mesh. The pixels of the normal map each store a normal, a vector that describes the surface slope of the original high-res mesh at that point. The red, green, and blue channels of the normal map are used to control the direction of each pixel's normal.

When a normal map is applied to a low-poly mesh, the texture pixels control the direction each of the pixels on the low-poly mesh will be facing in 3D space, creating the illusion of more surface detail or better curvature. However, the silhouette of the model doesn't change. "

  12. Id like to see more types of field fortifications for dismounts and heavy weapons, please, such as improved vehicle fighting positions (2 or 3 tiered) and the ability to place some concrete and HESCO blocks in mission editor.

some don't realize that if someone wants a scenario with these items in it and another scenario without them, it currently requires two maps if the scenario occurs in the same area of the map. Why not give us the ability to just add and remove them in the mission editor?

Also brigade and soviet regimental level engineer equipment such as minelayers and Volcano would be great additions.

  13. Of course in the military / classroom version you have more flexibility in that you can send out your STRIKEWARN message over the net, follow that up by sending out the graphic of the area, and if units went into the declared zone after that the Instructor Host machine can inflict damage "on the fly".

Of course very few people here have Pro, so that really doesnt pertain to this discussion.
