  1. I dissagree...when you "strike form the march using superior reccon information" you are not doing a meeting engagement, you are attacking. I mean it implies that you know what you are facing, in the definition of a meeting engagement you don't.
  2. Btw: It works!! But I spent all 52 rounds for 2 hits 8-)
  3. Well, that's probably one beauty of conscription :-) We've had a couple of those games with the 911 community...and as most german males have been serving(ok ,not anymore :-( ), it never compared to herding cats.
  4. Well, Capt. Darling was a close runner for my username at the time ;-)
  5. Well, with fully crewed I mean 14 players for a tank company (+an FO maybe). So the Lt's should lead their units and every vehicle is lead by a human player. If vehicles are lost, the Commanders can become gunners on the remaining ones...and so on :-P
  6. Reminds me to try to get a "fully crewed company" COOP organized!
  7. What recce's story nicely shows: Beeing good in (land)navigation doesn't mean to be allways on the right way. Thats easy. Realizing when you are wrong soon enough to sort it out again, THATS THE TRICK! ( and the thing where many many fail) I'd like to add another short warstory here: At a time I was instructor for future squad leaders(preperation course before they go to the actual NCO school). We where doing land navigation training. As a starter we send them on a march using map, sketches and compass to test the skills they should have from their training allready. They start marching and I had to accompany them, after about 1h walking into a wrong direction(I knew, but not allowed to tell), I'm allready a little pissed. We come to a crossroad. The "squad leader" checks the ways with his compass, compares them with the crossroad on his map where he THINKS he is. and then says: "ok this way is it!" I envision a night of futile walking, so I ask him: "Did you check the bearings, does it fit?" "Well, the way in the map is 10mil...this one about 8, to that should be about right." I say: "Ok..." I think:"Fuck, there goes this nights sleep!" In short: He screwed up, never realized his mistake and even failed to rethink when I gave him a hint. At one point his squad mates took map and compass from him ;-)
  8. What does super super secret mean? HrhHm "List of informed persons: -the chief of the army -the chiefs of the armies wife -the servants of said wife, -the friends of the chiefs of the armies wife and all their servants and tennis partners... Ah, and a bloke named "Bob" I meet in the casino last night..." ;-)
  9. Well, having to do both (Co'ing and fires)...I was not good in both :-P I called 34 mission, 30% of 'em repeated. AAs long as i don't get me hand on the server AAR I don't know if I hit something. In short: You where missed :-)
  10. ..talking about tank porn?( http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?t=16114 ) This is tank porn 8-)
  11. I'd like to add that APS onyl help you if you are inside and armoured vehicle. APS enhance armour plates, not replace them. (the shrapnell shower of a "defeted" ATGM or KE-round ist quiete substantial)
  12. Its not just Holland, the whole Netherlands are doing it ;-)
  13. Well, I'm done now...the ball is in zip's field :-P
  14. Agreed on that, Volcano! The Chally model is well protected and has the only(in SB) FCS that gives you an actual firing-solution above 4000m! Used mobile(harder to hit the "sweet spot") or hull down(sweet spot covered) the CR2 is allmost impossible to crack. For the ammo, true if you compare it with the newest Rheinmetal 120 or 105 ammo, it seem weaker. But then again it is from 1999 (DM-53 is from 2003/4...edit: was wrong here, DM63 is from the 2003, DM-53 was developed together with the L-55 cannon around 1997/98) and has seperated rounds/charge=>the round has only about 50-60% of the length of the most recent APFSDS. And for the "pointy sticks" size matters! The model has room for improvement but my guess is that this could be harder for esim. On the Leo and M1 they have staff that know the maschines inside out 'cos they "lived on them" for a time. Last point. Those of us who spent time in uniform will know, that one part of the training includes "building confidence in your equipment". They are not going to tell you:" You'll face the enemy in the 4th best tank of the world." The idea is to make you confident you are riding the most badass deathmaschine on the planet. Take all of that with a pinch of salt and enjoy SB for what it is...and remeber: If SB had ALL the real information/Data in it...there would probably be no "PE" version
  15. Have some problems uploading the aar file of the battle...the zip-file 60MB :-o
  16. Some playing around: like in all tank models in SB, you have a reasonable chance to kill T-72 at even 3100m. CR2_test_010812RONIN_21822.rar
  17. Ah well, a heated debate again. I admit I'm a bit dissapoinbted by the CHARM 3 performance as well :-(. But given the available info(approx weight and length of the round) the current numbers are esims best guess. There are also the knows issues of f.e. HESH accuracy and the GAS sight that will hopefully be adressed in as short time as possible :-) For the armour values: The CR2 modell is damn hard nut to crack!! I ocne spent all my ready rack DM 53 of the Turret front of the CR2 to no effect! (the chally was set on blind, so he did not disturb me ;-) ) Shure, the vision blocks are a week spot...but which tank has none? And this does not lock weak to me: http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbwiki/index.php/Image:Challenger2protection.jpg As for the speeds? There I have another question: has anyone checked how much the speed values of the Leo 2 models differ? the A5 and A6 should a good bit slower then the A4?
  18. well, at least here is the html report as a starter: Defense vs BMP Rgt_T-72M4_01-07-12_19_02_44.rar
  19. Ok, thanx everyone for showing up!! I have problem with my AAR, I will try to recover the file form the 911-server. Hope to post it soon
  20. Also take note of the 5th company with Fuchs APC and PARA/RASIT systems (ground surveilance radar). From what I recall with working with PzAufklBtl 13, a light recon team would be 2xLuchs + 1x Fuchs. To add some dissmounted sqouts and/or a radar system. A heavy recon team had 1-plt of Leopard 1 (in that time=3x Leo1) and Luchs/Fuchs attached if needed.
  21. And there is the scenario for tonight Defense vs BMP Rgt_T-72M4.rar
