  1. I'm in the process of making all the major 3rd gen MBT's for ARMA 3 with interiors to boot. I already have some Abrams tanks available (though still need a little polishing and balancing) along with LCAC's for deployment. Its nowhere near the level of immersion gained from steel beasts (and never could be really in the arma engine) but its better than the default bohemia tanks. As a tank crewman in the 15th MEU realism unit it's really added a lot to the immersive experience, taking into considerations the limitations of the arma engine haha. Abrams WIP Challenger 2 LCAC Video of everything in use:
  2. I know its been mentioned before but something that would really help in my opinion with multiplayer would be a radio system akin to ACRE or TFAR for ArmA. I.e a communication system with a plugin for teamspeak that mutes all other participants in your channel unless they are in your vehicle or on the same radio frequency as you in game and presently transmitting (channels and settings controlled in game with a radio overlay or other such visual control/representation. This is absolutely vital in arma realism units where 100+ players will be in a server each needing their own radio nets and to communicate with their own CoC (i.e I command a tank in the 15th MEU and must be on 4 seperate radio nets to coordiate with other elements + my CoC) and I feel it would add a alot to the immersion and ease of coordination in Steel Beasts although I have no idea what radio system or approximation of system would be appropriate in this context and understand that implementing this kind of thing purely for 'gamers' would not really be prudent. Although actually i would be interested in finding out what coms protocols you more experienced SB multiplayer's use during coordinated events with a CoC and maybe giving that a go
  3. I'm sure you could maybe get an approximation of those facilities using a region encompassing the building or object and the repair if.. settings under the units options menu. i.e "repair if unit this is in region x" or something along those lines. you could even have a delay on it using the 'delay after condition is true' timer.
  4. again something that would be attractive to my USMC realism unit friends would be the AAV-7A1 Amphibious Assault Vehicle. Although i cant see such an addition being justified without a military customer requesting it.
  5. I'm now regularly putting up videos from Steel Beasts games and am AVOIDING anything i consider to be bugs as i really really love the game and want others to start playing it. I have convinced several of my fellow Titan crew members (from Arma 3, 15th MEU realism unit) to take up the game now. (Might have a USMC 1st Tank Battalion Virtual Unit before long hehe ) and the feedback so far is that as soon as they start playing they are hooked. The bugs issue, especially regarding AI to be fair isn't exclusive to Steel Beasts, anyone experienced in the Arma series of games will tell you that the AI there is ridiculous most of the time (especially tanks, i.e always turning rear toward enemy instead of reversing) The only areas that I feel Arma is still superior are graphically (although I would rather the flexibility of scale Steel Beasts allows than a 'prettier' experience) and the active support of user made mods/ scripting support (us programmers will always prefer this to GUI approaches haha ) but since starting to play this game seriously I find it hard to take Arma 3 seriously in the same way anymore lol.
  6. sorted it out in the end. friend hadnt properly set up his firewall exceptions. works both ways now thanks for the help guys
  7. ok is it available for download and will my current lisence remain valid? if so will give the beta a go thanks for the tip
  8. Me and a friend are having a hard time getting a multiplayer game going despite having my ports forwarded and him having a cable modem without router. I can see his session available but always get an 'error while connecting' message after trying to connect. Conversely he cannot see me sessions at all. Both of us had our firewalls disabled during these attempts. can anyone offer a possible direction for us to explore solutions to this problem? thanks Burnes
  9. for me the biggest improvement that could be made to infantry units were such areas up for improvement would be proper urban formations and movements. i.e stacking up on building corners and moving from cover to cover rather than just moving down the middle of the street or getting stuck on fences. The infantry at present are perfectly adequate for open field or woodland fighting but when it comes to urban settings they are really not very useful or realistic in my opinion. I think a good example of how they 'could' be made to move would be something like in full spectrum warrior (an old squad/fireteam level game based on a us army training program). but even little things like giving them the ability to climb over fences and small walls (even if it was just allowing them to walk through) would help i think.
  10. Thank you for a very concise and candid reply to that question and yes i can totally see your point on the never ending stretching of boundaries. perhaps utilizing a LOD system similar to other large scale military games could prove a good solution some day as only the crew currently being rendered in your vehicle really need a high degree of detail. but like i said originally for me it is a very minor thing and i am very much enjoying the game as it is now. I renewed my licence a few days ago and managed finally to convince one of my fellow arma tank crewmen from the 15th MEU realism unit to get a copy and licence.
  11. Again a very informative answer thank you. I know that Steel Beasts isn't technically a 'game' in the conventional (commercial) sense and that its sale to the general public is more of a fan service than a business move and that the ability to run the sim on rather meager hardware is obviously attractive to military customers.
  12. I was referring to the traversing rather than firing. you know, if/when the loader is turned out and using the m240. There must be occasion for such a use or the weapon would not be mounted. ah but does this mean you are against the idea of crew models all together or simply in the pursuit of manifesting that scenario?
  13. Thank you for the Clarification on that one, lol I will admit that most of my 'wishes' are born of assumptions based on inaccuracies in the amra series although mils were used in Arma 2 (ACE) for making arty corrections etc This is a great explanation thank you, makes sense really. lol. Would this be the same for the loaders 240? Going back to something else i mentioned. Has the idea of adding crew models ever been considered? Although it doesn't add a huge amount in the way of functionality it would still be useful i think, for example being able to see when other commanders are turned out or possibly to enable the AI loader to make use of the aforementioned M240...
  14. I am aware of this. it is a poor substitute in my opinion. Too used to giving and receiving exact bearings i guess... yeah..uh you know i have actually played the game right? started it up and everything... I spend most of my time unbuttoned for the situational awareness but my point was that; A) none of the M2 configurations on the abrams tanks have any degree of FOV adjustment, The CROWS system does (up to x25 i believe). B)Like the M1A1's periscope you would not have to expose yourself to enemy fire in order to utilize the system. Maybe I should amend my suggestion to be a system on the M1A1 AIM rather than the M1A2 but i still think it would be a nice addition. I find the M2's at present to be not particularly useful... yeah its literally like £5 in uk money. but i have some REALLY shallow freinds lol
  15. Hi guys, I'm new to this excellent game and to the forums but i thought i would share my wish list too having played a bit now and being able to compare it to the Arma universe i have alot of experience in. Compass or Bearing indicator. - would really really help in navigation and general orientation for me. Abrams CROWS system, or at the very least a less 'in your face' perspective when using the unbuttoned 50 on the M1A2. on a related note is it just me or does the gunner always stop firing when you use the 50? crew member models - would add a lot in the way of immersion for me, although tbh i find i am INCREDIBLY immersed when playing this game anyway so not a deal breaker. wider ability to copy/paste in the editor would be nice. Oh, and a way to convince more of my shallow fellow tank enthusiasts from Arma 3 to give this amazing simulator a go.. such a shame... It makes Arma feel like an arcade game lol
