Thank you. I'll have fiddle with the ' ProgramData\eSim Games\Steel Beasts ' folder when I get the chance
-
I initially installed the maps on to the D drive and this time the C, both gave me similar results. But Steel Beasts is running better with the maps on the C drive. I take it that the the individual map folders should be in C:\ProgramData\eSim Games\Steel Beasts\maps\packages ?

Yes ProgramData/Steel Beasts, the folder I selected during the map install

Thank you! It's not the legacy maps I'm concerned about, it's the new ones. I uninstalled the maps and the program - Ran the maps install from the thumb drive, I selected ProgramData/Steel Beasts which is the file location now shown in the program All the individual map folders installed themselves there, no 'maps' folder, just them nothing else in ProgramData/Steel Beasts. The folder for each map has an .Int, .ter and .mrf file as well as a 'deltas' folder - Installed Steel beasts Everything appeared in ProgramData/Steel Beasts, interleaved with the map folders. There is a maps folder there, it only has the themes folder. There are no height, packages or terrain folders in ProgramData/Steel Beasts There is no height folder anywhere on the C drive. There is no 'packages' folder related to Steal Beasts anywhere on the C drive. There is a 'terrain' folder in program files. It runs fine, a little better than it did with the maps on the D drive Just very curious why my folder hierarchy is not standard. Can I arrange it manually? It seems very weird

Just got my package from eSim games, I can re-install from there now! But not just yet
-
Interesting. I installed, from SBMapPackageINstaller.exe to D:/.........../Steel Beasts/Maps I searched and found "D:\eSim Games\Steel Beasts\Maps\Ft_Knox_10m [autocreated base]\deltas\FT KNOX KY 50km 1A-1_10m\metadata.mrf" I think I will uninstall everything, Rename any remaining Steel Beasts folders on the C drive, Reinstall The maps on the C drive Then reinstall Steel Beasts Even though I did uninstall first, there may have been something left over that the installer 'grabbed'. Any other ideas?

I believe the file structure should start with ' maps\packages ' I have reinstalled the maps package and the map folders are directly in the maps folder; there is no 'packages' folder. Can I just manually create a 'packages' folder and then copy everything in the 'maps' folder into that 'packages' folder? Or are there other sub folders that are not maps? I have no idea why this happened

For what it is worth, I agree the tree in the 4.023 screen shot looks more Aussie. It may just be too much foliage.

Baseline Scenarios Missing Legacy Maps (hmap basemap) [RESOLVED]
ssidiver replied to Apocalypse 31's topic in Support
Interesting, thank you. I'll continue with how I have it now waiting for the stick to arrive. Then I will re install the maps from that. I have them on my D drive, I'm thinking there might be a noticeable difference in load times from the C:. I do have enough space there, I just like data like things on the D drive. I'll see after I've re-installed the maps. -

Thank you, any point in waiting for my package to arrive, with the stick to arrive? And is it simple to change the location of the maps folder? -
Baseline Scenarios Missing Legacy Maps (hmap basemap) [RESOLVED]

I think I am missing something. I keep seeing references to ' ...\maps\packages\ '; but I don't have a 'packages' directory. My Maps directory's first map shows: eSim Games/Steel Beasts/Maps/(hgt)kookvalley2048[valley]v2 [autocreated base]. That's straight from the maps download and install. Did the install fail in some peculiar way, something else creates the packages directory or is this normal too? -
Then there is million dollar point, at the end of WWII the US wanted to sell their excess equipment to the locals. After the locals refused to buy it, at a significant discount, the US bulldozed it all off the beach! A really interesting dive, but 'everyone prefers to 'go see the lady'.

Ah, $19.99 in the Australian store, kindle version https://www.amazon.com.au/s?k=The+Defense+of+Hill+781%3A+An+Allegory+of+Modern+Mechanized+Combat&rh=n%3A2496751051&_encoding=UTF8

If your worried about thieves accessing your bank account because of debit card usage, simply use a secondary bank account which contains a lesser amount that your main account; simple. I support the use of credit cards and have no use for a debit card. I would however use PayPal, but that is very much a secondary concern for me.

Yep, very easy to do yourself!

I simply do not see a problem with a small fee! I remember a simulation that cost $120 ( in the early (2000s) and every December there was a new version for, wait for it, $120. If you didn't buy it you, lost all future user created add-ons. If you bought it, you had to upgrade most of what you had created. I think I lasted one upgrade before abandoning that sim. Steelbeasts is great, I wish I had found it earlier! They are doing a great job and are not asking for much money!

I love The Odd Angry Shot! And I will watch Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan – Official Teaser Trailer; no matter the criticism. I am often annoyed by 'technical inaccuracies', but I can still enjoy! Bring it ON!

In my humble opinion, this has gotten out of control. I like VR and I like Steel Beasts Pro PE; that does not mean I want to use Steel Beasts Pro PE in VR. In fact I don't, I don't think that the technology is is available to do Steel Beasts Pro PE justice in VR. There are many more important things to incorporated into Steel Beasts Pro PE in future than VR. I wonder how many Steel Beasts Pro PE users really want VR before other features.

Oh dear! Read my first post in this thread. Yes I do use VR daily! But one other thing you seem to have missed, many people who use Steel Beasts like to play infantry 'realistically'. I do sometimes wonder when some people take a throw away line and not see the mildly humorous side.

I can not see the major customers customers paying to up grade to VR soon. But thank you for the picture I now have in my mind, of people running around with boxes strapped to their faces, yelling 'tank tank'; as they struggle to point and click on the correct button of the interface. I have in the past run around the bush shouting 'tank tank', but that was a long time ago and my face was not covered.

Yes and all that data and programming has to run on consumer grade CPUs and GPUs. Oh and running around the house with a box strapped to your face just looks silly. The hardware needs to be robust and 'cheap' for VR to 'take off'. I have not found a game I would like to play in VR, and I don't think anything as detailed as Steel Beasts would be easy to play in VR, the interface being not flexible enough. There are a lot first person shooters, but then Unity tutorials give you a step by step guide to building them. What I enjoy at the moment are 'movie clips' shot with VR cameras; the 'immersion' is fantastic, even with the apparent lack of fidelity. Personally I want to create 3D models of places I have been, not only 360 deg pics but things you an walk through as well. For most programs and games it is just plain easier to look at a screen and use your keyboard than strap the head set on and use the controls provided. I think that the popularity of VR will increase as the production of VR TV programs and movies increases. Then again when an alternative to the headset is available.

In the last few months I purchased a new 'gaming' PC, from our local computer shop which happens to specialize in VR. I wrote the specs for the PC including a CPU and GPU 'just' below the 'top of the range'; even so while the PC was in test in shop, one of the staff commented to me that the test was going great and he had never seen a PC with 'specs like these' before. After 'bedding' the PC in at home and talking extensively with the shop owner, I went back, tried their demo set up and purchased a Rift. I am happy with it. The apparent resolution is no where near my perceived resolution on a 1920 x 1080 display, but the depth perception is great. In my opinion it's a case of the software being ahead of the hardware in this area and I think other technologies will overtake the headsets before the resolution increases enough. In my humble opinion probably some form of holographic display. Putting two high enough definition displays right in front of your eyes is probably a hard problem to solve.

Have you tried just opening a Steel Beasts windows in Oculus? I have not tried it and I am sure the controls would not be easy manage. But you can now open any WinOs window in the Rift, or so they say.

Yes please, perfect for me!
