  1. Resurrecting this topic as I'm back from a LONG hiatus.

Updated the 4.167 - all good.

Going thru the M1A1 tutorials and cannot figure out the artillery tutorial at all.

Can you preset fire missions in the planning phase on the map?  If so how as right clicking on one of the "+" marks does not bring up an artillery choice.

When doing it in the mission phase I thought that clicking OK on the menu would generate a dashed red box with a countdown timer, right? I don't get that.

Just looking for specifics here as to how this works.

Is there a YouTube video somewhere?

    Thanks in advance.

thb, I fail to see whats better in this menue setup. Renaming "session" to "mission"?

OK, can see why you would arrange them like that, but see no benefit vs the time cost for the devs to do it.  I am not a hardcore player, yet still see minimal issues with the menus.

I would rather see the effort put into making information on units a little easier to get at.

Sigh.  Well, you can't say I didn't try.  It is indeed a small thing so let's just agree to disagree here.  And as e-Sim hasn't bothered to make the really minuscule time/$$ to change it in over 10+ years I doubt they are going to bother to do it now anyway so time to move on.

Well this is the first on the menu screens 9_9, so your alone on this one, never been distracted by the load screen :), thats a new one also, feel free to fix on your own and post here, and hey! thanks.

What an odd response; "feel free to fix on your own.".  This is a wish list thread is it not?  And you didn't tell the guy that wants to the M-60 AVLB to go build it now did you?

Looks ARE important and the menu is the 2nd screen a player - first time or otherwise - sees.  Shame to see an opportunity - and a cheap fix - wasted.  I speak from experience here as I started my biz career in advertising and I can tell you that a slick presentation pulls the customer in.  Now, if that’s all there is – just sizzle, no steak – then that slick presentation won’t keep ‘em coming.  But SB doesn’t have that issue. SB is like a Filet Mignon and it’s a shame to see it wrapped in yesterday’s newspaper.

That stated, I'll take your challenge and gin something up this weekend.  I'm no graphics designer but what the heck.

I think that the fire control system of all M1s up to the M1A1(HA) are the same, irrespective of gun caliber. So the M1A1 tutorials should be a good reference. And then there's always the SB Wiki on this site (see the menu bar at the top of this web page).

    Good info. and TY.

  5. Forgive my ignorance here if I missed an uppdate on this topic.  Is anything going to be done about the terrible menu screens ***? And the Load screen “blur”.  These really detract from the overall experience.

I get that these would be low priority but to fix them would take little time and little money. It’s a no brainer.

(***What’s with the menu formatting?  The indents make no sense as they are not subcategories. Just no intuition here at all.)

Yeah even though I cancelled my open order, they still shipped it (and charged me, of course) and I received it yesterday. Unfortunately it wasn't proof-read by competent human eyes. Just reading the jacket, the foreword, and the first chapters, already there are half a dozen typos or grammatical errors. There are errors in parallelism where new content is added to existing text. Personally this is quite distracting but I am still trying to enjoy reading on (merit to original).

Here are some examples (from Team Yankee Revised and Expanded Edition by Harold Coyle):

On the jacket: "It puts the reader in the tank turret of team commander Captain Sean Bannon they fight the war across the plains of Western Europe." < missing "as" between Bannon and they

In foreword (addendum): "New weapons systems, such as the M-1 Abrams tank were being fielded as quickly as they had completed their trails and were type-classified."

Ch.2, pg 27: "As if in response to Bannon's desperate effort to deny the reality of their situation, a crash and rumble like distant thunder rolled over them, causing the two commanders snapped their heads back toward the east."

Oh man.  That is just crap - and unforgivable.  Thank you for the tip off and saving me money.

  7. Need basic help fellows.  Way back when Ssnake wrote the following:

Also, there's the option in the file menu to activate the "mouse vector" which will always draw a line from your mouse position to the screen center while you're controlling a gun sight.

So, where is this option exactly?  I saw it in a video and want to use it.

    Thanks.

Congrats on your purchase, I really doubt you will regret it! There is just so much extra with this installment. A lot of little details that makes one giggle like a giddy little school girl that is about to let her inner demon of death and destruction out.

    Haa!! :)

welcome Koen! Glad is working there too. If you suffer some performance loss you can low the AntiAliasing settings and terrain details B|  Here didn't play really big battles so those "final" settings are working super fine

I just purchased 4.0 and will be trying out your settings this weekend.  TY for taking the "trial and error" out of the setting process.

Ummm...guess I'd better 'fess up here. Without putting too fine a point on it, my original tank, on which I trained as an officer cadet decades ago, was the Centurion 5. It had the same gun-sight fitted as provided for the Sho't Kal in SB, along with the .50 cal HMG ranging gun. Although the Sho't Kal doesn't have the ranging gun fitted (Israeli decision, apparently), the sight graticle pattern is unchanged from what I used. So I still have a pretty good idea of how to use the sight, even after 48 years (which surprises the hell out of me, quite frankly!). But it all came back pretty quickly: talk about a really neat flashback! :)

That is amazing!  Well done sir.

  12. Depends on who "red" is.

    "Red" is the OPFOR.

If the Soviet T-72M1 or Iraqi T-72M1 are on "your" side (i.e. "blue") then you need to put them in the sub directories that match the nationality that is represented by "Blue".

If you are fighting against the Soviet or Iraqi T-72s then sure they go into the Red sub directory.

TY, yes the latter is what I am doing.

  13. Trying to follow this thread. Two scenarios:

    1. Soviet T-72M1 goes in Documents\eSim Games\Steel Beasts\mods\textures\woodland\red Yes?

    2. Iraqi T-72M1 goes in Documents\eSim Games\Steel Beasts\mods\textures\desert\red

    - OR -

    In Documents\eSim Games\Steel Beasts\mods\textures\desert\ir ?

    Thanks.
