  1. While I sorta get your point, I just want to say this: I am relatively new to this community, I have never been in the military, I don't study tank warfare, I didn't read the manual (because I'm too lazy), I'm a life-long gamer enthusiast (the most stereo-typical kind you can imagine), I spent 8 years of my life working in the game industry (working on games like EVE Online, Tribal Wars, Forge of Empires, Kartuga (never released) and also working for Havok, the guys that do physics for most games like Skyrim, Battlefield and many others) and I actually do like being the gunner in a tank (MajorDuck can confirm this)..primarily because these days I have less time to dedicate to SB than I'd want to. Because my real wish, is actually to be a platoon commander. However, as a gunner in SB - I really *do* have macros set up in order to give me a much easier time at shooting, because I like blowing things up and I like when things are full of action ..and when I'm not accidentally blowing up friendly Spaniards (sorry!), I am actually a really good gunner (or so people tell me). I'm not here because I have no interest in SB as a sim, I do, but I also have interest in it as a game (sorry Grenny, you're right - this will be a bit of hairsplitting. I can only apologise). And it is a game...anything that involves practising for "the real thing", is a game. Software-based or otherwise. I promise that is the extent of my hairsplitting (sorry!) - I wouldn't be here if I wasn't interested in SB as a game (and friends playing it), which then gives me an interest in the community - I'm a gamer, duh Now, as I told Zaphod, I know what you mean. I just don't want presumptions about gamers to stretch any further than it has to. Because we have such an opportunity growing in this community and I think it's worth exploring it to the fullest, even if that means making a few minor mistakes along the way
  2. Yeah I do But as for an age limit, I don't know about this site, but there is for Kanium. That's purely for legal reasons though, given the material on our website and the language being employed by our members..and of course because most times we tried to get younger people in Kanium, it was usually a disaster X_X And oh yeah, me being in my 30s has done absolutely nothing to advance me past the mental age of 12
  3. Well unless you go directly for the prepubescent aggressive WoT players and feed them lies about what SB is ("ermahgerd try SB, it's a much better tank moba than WoT!" - said no one ever ), I'm not sure how you'd "push SB too much". But fair enough, I will keep a mental note not to seek out "360 noscope tankers"
  4. I actually think that I do want to "mess up the SB MP community" - but in the sense that we are already doing, by the efforts that Kanium is doing in cooperation with other VU's. Meaning we invite everyone to come and have fun and not worrying the slightest about who people are - You like armored warfare? Find it interesting? Come join us! We'll even lend you a license to try things out. So far things are going really well and I hope we will attract new people. If that means finding them in WoT or Warthunder, so be it :-)
  5. Curse you! You made my brain hurt :'( (and no smart-arse comments from any of you! :P)
  6. Hear hear! Though I would add that while the ceiling is pretty high up (and so it should be! <3 Ssnake), it behoves a proper individual to at least *attempt* to stay reasonable - even during disputes.
  7. I see what you mean, but I have yet to see acronyms on this forum that are THAT bad. Also, there is merit in the age old and tested concept of going: "Not sure I catch your drift. Any chance you could explain this without the acronyms and short-forms?" In other words, positive thinking and cooperative communication is more likely to bring us forward in a meaningful way :-)
  8. Five minutes? That's a bit slow isn't it? ..I jest of course But I could think of many other examples than "some1" that'd be a much greater indicator. In my experience, attitude plays an important role and I think it would be a shame for us to care so much about language, when content seems to me to be much more important
  9. Over-enthusiastic WoT players can be a hazzle, I agree, but my experience is that it has a lot to do with environment and the style of gameplay. in other words, the reason many (read: most) WoT players are the way they are, has a lot to do with WoT rather than themselves as people. In other words, I think you might be slightly, but importantly, mistaken about the cause of your own experience. We shouldn't, in my opinion, alienate anyone from playing SB with us on the grounds that they are full of hormones and play arcade-styled games ;P Also the level of "maturity" for a discussion, has a lot to do with attitude, rather than the subject itself. It further seems to me, that those who are minded more in the way that you dread, are unlikely to want to even play SB in the first place, simply because of the vast difference between an arcade game and a simulator. But in general, I think we should strive to get as many people involved with SB, young and old whether or not they play WoT, as we can. That will take a lot of work, though I think it'll be worth it in the long run for a number of different reasons :-)
  10. Mmm, not terribly interested in the intricacies of Wiki-"EA". Just want a simple entry like everyone else
  11. I'm talking about this thing: http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbwiki/index.php?title=Current_events I was thinking a brief little entry like everyone else. Or am I missing something? :-)
  12. Unless you have been extraordinarily obnoxious, I don't see why you are getting this kind of lip from anyone - never mind this sort of passive aggressive crap in a PM. But I don't know enough about you to really comment on that and I'm not sure I care I absolutely think the conversations about "How to get more players", is a worthwhile thing to consider. It could be considered on the level of "SB as a community", "VU" and "Individual players" and I assume what you mean here is "SB as a community".
  13. I realise I am a bit late to this party, but I would just want to add the following: As one of the founders of Kanium (and a civilian(!)), home to the Kanium VU, I can say on behalf of our organisers and members that we are very happy and patient in receiving new members. Elitism is not something you will find with us and I am quite confident is claiming that we are a laid-back group who, above all, just want people to have fun and memorable experiences..we don't require anything from you really, other than a good attitude and while we don't require regular attendance, we'd prefer if people show up regularly (ie. we won't kick you out if we don't see you for a few months, but we'd prefer people to be active) Another advantage with Kanium (I should really add us to the Wiki, shouldn't I?) is that, while our VU is very dedicated (and talented if I may say so myself!), we don't exclusively play SteelBeasts - some of our members play League of Legends, Star Citizen, World of Tanks, Warthunder, Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis, Arma 3, Squad, Civilization etc. And we even have various Pen & Paper roleplaying groups. So if you like Dungeons & Dragons or similar, you'll have opportunities there with some of our very talented DM's. Kanium also boasts a good social environment on our TS server, Whatsapp and Skype. Conversations can be silly, deep and/or very politically incorrect..depends on the mood people are in. The important factor though: Have fun. So I think the only problem here, is that perhaps we don't advertise ourselves enough :-)
  14. Bloody hell mate.. o_O I think you're greatly misunderstanding the reason I'm saying any of this.
  15. Was the T-90 available in 1991? Source(s) say no: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-90 Nothing to do with a "turkey shoot", nor "near peer enemy". Just trying to have it make sense :-)
  16. Feedback: Idea was nice, had some great moments, great teamwork and good laughs and so on..So those were nice things. 1. Not sure I ever understood why mission 1 was Leopard 2a4's, with inferior ammunition vs T-90's. 2a4's with better ammunition or 2a5's would have made more sense - seemed to be a bit too heavy on the fantasy side of things. At some point I wondered when the aliens would show up 2. We knew Hinds were coming in Mission 1, so AA should have been front and centre, not sitting at the bottom of a lake all the way in the back, or guarding a (seemingly) pointless bridge that didn't need the protection. We needed the AA up front, we really did. We also had no AA in mission 2...why didn't we? We knew hinds were coming :-| We should have had AA, we really should have. 3. Left flank should have been given more support in Mission 2, as well as the Apache's should have been used a lot sooner imho. 4. As someone on the Kanium forum put it: 5. We probably need to prepare better in the future. Way ahead of time...we wasted a lot of time setting things up (myself included) Looking forward to see what the future brings though, once we start making improvements and getting better at stuff Regards - DrHat

  18. Thank you..couldn't have done anything remotely useful without you guys. <3 Delta platoon
  19. I'll be there! Been having a wonderful time in every event I've been in so far
  20. I'll take a Leopard 1a5 if it's all the same to you :-)
  21. If I may lend my voice to this, albeit a fairly unknown one, I would say: Have faith in this effort - as much as I understand that change is regarded with suspicion, a worry that is only human, I can tell you that there is nothing to worry about. We have already gone through a fair few steps to setup this TS up properly, create the proper channels, the proper rights, the proper guides, links to material, due credit to this website (by referencing it in the channel and on TS in general) and have a very good idea of how to handle this. Major Duck and swordsmandk are exceptionally talented individuals in managing large amounts of people and are, as it were, proper "go getters". I have no doubt you will enjoy what has been done. Even I was inspired to create my own personalised scripted profile for my g19 keyboard, using LUA script. If it works well in the future and I get it expanded properly, I could share it with people that are interested. In short Tjay, I have every confidence that at the end of the next session - hopefully hosted on this new TS, you will be pleased, if not excited :-)
  22. I say! The installation was defeated the old fashioned British way; handbags at 50 paces!
