  1. Given that the cannon in Leo2A5 is as near as makes no difference the same as that in M1A1, I wouldn't utterly discount our opinions either. I know that if I'm stationary, my target is stationary facing me, and is exactly 3990m from me with 3990m indexed, the dispersion out of my 120mm/44 is such that I have somewhere on the order of a 50-50 chance of a hit, if not worse. I think it rather revolves around Ssnake's comment: I agree that there is nothing prohibiting the Danish Army from having a doctrine which permits 6km tank shooting. On the same level, as my instructing corporal put it, "Effective range for the FAL is 300m for individual fire, 600m for section fire. The theory being that if you're all firing at the target, chances are one of you will hit it" I'm only carrying 40 rounds and would very much like to get as many kills out of them as possible. I would want a very good reason to have a bunch of tanks firing speculative shots at 6km, particularly when I have a radio mounted in the tank and there are probably a whole bunch of very bored artillerymen a few miles behind me. The question is over just how much return you're expecting to get on your investment. Maybe the Danes have bought a crapload of tank ammunition, and little artillery and they consider it worthwhile to engage at that range. NTM
  2. I'm pretty sure they were HE rounds, where 'close enough' would be good enough. Granted there have been improvements in ammunition and FCS in recent times since the says of the M1A1, but I'm unconvinced that the dispersion rates have improved so dramatically that even a Leo2A6 can expect first-round-hits on a tank-sized target from the front at 6km as a matter of course. NTM
  3. For the record. Ready rack on the right, semi-ready on the left. NTM

    Night Lights

Frankly, unless it's just my being colour blind, the blue lights in the Brad/Abrams are not very blue, they're almost as near to white as you can get whilst still retaining a bluey/green tinge. NTM

    Night Lights

M1s only come with blue/green lights, plus the various illuminated panel lights which can be dimmed down as required. You're correct on the Bradley though, white or blue, with those two little spotlights of white or red. NTM
  6. All the ammo readouts will say both how many are in the ready rack/bin and how many are stowed and need to be moved to an accessible location. For ecample, you may see "KE 12 | 17" which indicates you've got 12 rounds ready to fire (probably plus one in the tube) and a further 17 in the semi-ready. (Hull stowage in the M1 is not properly replicated). So, when you get to "KE 0 | 17", that means that you've run out of ammunition and need to fall back to spend the time required to move rounds from their stowed location to the ready rack. The Leopards are the fastest at this, and the Bradleys and ASLAV-25s take for ever and an age. NTM

    The Skin Catalogue

Wasn't planning on it, but it's not a bad idea. That said, is it really that important to people? I'm going to use the best-looking-skin regardless of format. If I download it and it has a DDS, then it's an added bonus. Otherwise, I can just convert it myself if I'm all that worried about it. NTM
  8. I think there's a lack of courtesy from both sides. Gib very correctly pointed out the total inaccuracy of the mod, and instead of being told 'Oh, thanks for the info, I didn't think there was that much of a difference, but upon reflection I'm going to do this anyway for my own satisfaction' is told 'I don't care, I'm going to do this anyway, and if you don't like it don't download it.' NTM
  9. It's well beyond a 'what-if', unless you want to change it to 'What if the Aussie military replaced every damned piece of equipment it has except the M1 tank, and also its tactics and structure' I mean, there's willful suspension of disbelief, and there's not even coming close. NTM
  10. I think Gib's right, personally. It's not a skin issue, it's a modelling issue. You can paint them up any way you want to, but they still won't represent the capabilities of Australian forces, even remotely. It's far beyond 'M-4 vs Steyr AUG'. NTM
  11. You think that's bad? One of my sisters was born January 1st, and St Basil comes and gives presents to all the Greek kids that day. It's kindof fun being in a mixed family. We get two Christmasses, two Easters (usually), a birthday, a nameday. Lots of pressies! NTM
  12. On a completely unrelated note, the future Steel Beasts-playing population of Athens has just increased by one. My first Greek cousin has just been born today, a lad. That said, his dad was Air Force, and his grand-dad Navy, so I'm not sure which way he'll swing. My mother is overjoyed. Apparently her brother was the last of the Chrissafitous and she was worried that the name would die out. Yet another country for me to visit. Well, maybe I could challenge the Greek community to a LAN party... NTM

    TIS image "mod"

What he said. In a nutshell, the M1 of today still uses the original TIS that the prototypes had in the late 1970s. The M60's TTS, being a 1980s design, was more modern, clearer, and even used 'relaxed viewing' (i.e. a screen, instead of being forced to look through an eyepiece) NTM

Ask a US Army Dino-Tanker about going from the M60A3TTS to the M1. NTM
  15. I don't know.. At least one of those trees, a huge fecker, I would have thought would have stopped the t-34 or taken off the track instead of falling over like it did. NTM
