    Sim won"t start

It would also be good to hear what order you did things in.
  3. Right - you can hit T to turn off the tc for a while. As far as the TC pulling you off target while a missile is in the air, I cant find a way to reliably reproduce that. There will always be room for improvement with the TC.
  4. Looks an awful lot like a earlier post: http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?t=3745 If you don't have much time to play or learn, you'll have a tough time with steel beasts. I'd look through the download area and try to find something you like and maybe try to edit that.

    Licenses problems

Are you positive your friend has 8 licenses on that dongle? Does it work over the LAN?
  6. I'm not sure. The game seems to be working for most everyone, so its hard to guess why it's not working for you. Are you positive that you have disabled all your antivirus, spyware checkers, firewalls and everything else? Something seems to be blocking SB from talking to the dongle to request a license......
  7. I just wanted to thank Chaplain for hosting while I was gone. :-)
  8. To get rid of the rocks, edit the theme of the scenario. Most of the newer themes have the rocks removed. There are maps on which the rocks are intended to be there to restrict movement, theres not much you can do about that other than spending the time to recon your intended route before you start the mission. As far as buildings go, if you go rolling into a village in line or wedge formation, you can expect problems (especially if the town is very dense). Try going into a column formation well before entering the town. Bumping into trees and rocks etc is bad, and its pretty likely you will disable a crew member if you run into things. Tanks are pretty tough, but those soft things inside aren't so tough. Gunners dont like bashing into their gunsight.
  9. It's all lies. I took a vacation. Thanks for the well wishes though.
  10. Chaplain has agreed to host the next couple of weeks for me. Other than that, things will run like usual.
  11. ISTR, trees will cut the wires, and flying the TOW2B over water will crash it. Not sure about the 2A over water.
  12. Its really tough to judge forest shots from the AAR, because what really matters here is the shooters sight image in the few seconds leading up to the shot. Its common to see one pixel of movement in the gunsight, manually enter a range and blast away (if you know no friendlies are there). The human eye is very good at spotting movement, the AI is not quite as good.

    Living Forest

If the tanks are in platoon formation, I wouldnt be surprised. Its common to see tanks in column move off the road for some reason. Theres always a chance that one could hit a tree if they have orders to move at top speed.

    Block data error

If two units are named the same, I'd really like to see the mission, and figure out some way to reproduce naming two units the same.
  15. I'm pretty sure I know what this is, and should be fixed in the next release.
  16. Global mapper will import kmz files. Then you can export them to shp. Re: ground imagery - theres no way to directly import imagery like that, and if you could, the requirements for video RAM would be so high that no one would be able to run it. You can always browse through the existing textures using windows explorer - it will create thumbs for them so you can see the colors. If you see one thats really close to the color you want, then you can adjust the colors in photoshop, paintshop, etc. Just remember that if you do this, everyone using your map will need that texture file in order to see it.
  17. Its not released yet - theres too many buildings for it to be very useful, the framerate is still too low in certain areas..
  18. If your data is too far out of bounds, then you'll get that error. Slightly overlapping the borders of the new map some is fine but there is a limit to how far out of bounds it will accept. Double check your data to make sure you haven't made a mistake.
  19. Try downloading the windows installer cleanup utility from microsoft and delete the installer entry for steel beasts. Delete all your SB files, and then start over from the beginning. Pay close attention to the patch installers because some of them will install to whatever path it thinks is the default, and this may not be what you need. Make sure you are opening and closing SB every time after a patch is installed before installing the next patch.
  20. You need to find the temporary files created by the installer and delete them. Its also possible the installer ran out of space trying to decompress itself on the C drive.
  21. No. They are hard coded, and as far as I know, they are realistic. Some things just cant be fixed in the time frame of a standard scenario.

Please email the scenario in question to webmaster at steelbeasts dot com.

It could mean the lag is REALLY bad. So bad that things are starting to fail. Are there any "spawned" units in that mission? There could be other reasons as well, but the last time I saw this was in a mission with spawned units where someone tried to load a saved plan.
  24. I'm still interested in knowing how your idea applies to steel beasts, and the types of scenarios we run here. Is your overall point to avoid resistance? If so, thats nothing new. I assume you started this thread looking for some good arguments, so dont be surprised when people start to query you for specifics.
