  1. When I climbed into it and tried wiggling it free it got detached from the platoon and had no route line.

Perhaps next time I'll use the 3D menu from the stuck Bradley and have the other Bradley tow it. It happens 50% of the time in that scenario.

Perhaps it had a residual route (light grey line on the map) and as soon as it was hooked up it reverted to that?

I was driving the towing Bradley.... tried from the TC position and the drivers position.

    Yes, you should.

Here it is, from the moment I realize the Bradley is stuck, to the moment I finally give up on it because I realize it seems to just be glitching all around the Z-buffer rabbit hole that is SBProPE Armored MOUT:

  4. THIS was a fun engagement. Platoon of M2A2s against a Ruski supply and repair depot with about a reinforced motorized infantry company I whipped up. Enemy vehicles have random states of disrepair (I think) and the scenery is amazing. Three hour operation (?) But we cleared it.

One track got stuck in a building right at the LOD. I now count these as mechanical breakdowns and had the infantry stomp to the firing line as we advanced.

(this screenie does not depict said vehicle buffer stick)

  5. So after being hyped up over the fast moving Cavalry blasting thru Baghdad on the famous Thunder Runs I have tried this several times and NEVER gotten those results.

I have realized this is because the Iraqi Army/Fedayeen were inept and had no real anti-tank weaponry let alone training.

I have learned that in reality a slow, cautious moving attack with infantry, air support and artillery is the only way to victory.

Unless I make the enemy inept then it's a turkey shoot like 2003.

I've already looked at some restricted data having to do with performance maps. DCS is pretty objectively off, and I'm not sure they can correct it given their commercial nature.

...and their Russian bias. For the longest time, the radar ranges of the F-15C were way short of what printed engagements indicated. But then Razbam was coming out with its accurate F-15E radar/AIM-7/-120 engagement ranges, ED fixed these on the F-15C. And at first, that was great!

Buuuuuuut... they nerfed the jets structure then so if you pulled over 9 Gs the wings just ripped off. Seriously, I even tested it after my jet just folded up explosively during dogfights a few times. (I might have video of it). It's SO frustrating!!!

So after moping a month or so over that, BMS announced its F-15C! You know they're gonna make it accurate.

I started with FreeFalcon due to it, well, being free. In my defense I was a kid back then and didn't really have the faculties to just get a cheap copy of Falcon 4 and install BMS. I installed FreeFalcon 5-something again a few years ago just to check on how it was. Not only does it look atrocious, it flies very strangely. I guess I couldn't tell the difference back then.

BMS is allegedly the closest thing to proprietary military trainers for the F-16 (According to people who develop said military trainers) and things like the DCS model, and really any other military aircraft model out for the public, are a step or two below. BMS's kinetic and aerodynamic modeling guy does know what he is doing to a high level; the model is not held back by his abilities, more-so hard factors like CPU capacity and obtainable data.

The BMS F-16 model is a bit too "snappy" and doesn't have enough "return inertia" when you stop a roll moment for example, and is missing some highly non-linear oscillations and whatnot that can happen in some combined transient input situations, but to be fair none of the other consumer sims simulate any aspect of the aerodynamic model as well as BMS already does. DCS doesn't yet correlate basic things like the cornering performance in steady state or fuel consumption in any state.

Lol Here ya go- somebody did a side-by-side comparison or two:

Yeah, I started a bit over a decade ago. I don't know if it was the peak of the "wars" but the FreeFalcon vs BMS discussion was relevant.

BMS's exterior models look better IMO. The lighting is also better. Cockpits and environments just need work, and some other assets need touching up. They're working on all of that, but, well, free mod. Takes time. At least the bones are good.

Ya it was crazy how it started getting kinda bitter. Site Admins were constantly reigning us in. But BMS won and nobody really remembers FreeFalcon now. I feel like a browncoat now lol.

Welcome to the club. BMS is much more sophisticated than DCS in everything that matters. DCS does some small things a bit better, but overall BMS blows it out of the water. Once many aircraft are high-fidelity with accurate avionics, DCS is going to start having a tough time given that BMS is almost free and has better functionality in most things.

Were you there for the FreeFalcon vs BMS Wars? I was. I loyally flew FreeFalcon/Red Viper for years. Hell, I owned Falcon 1 and 3 (skipped Falcon AT for some reason I don't remember). I actually purchased Falcon 4 3 times! First two times I was so disappointed that I just sold it to AFROTC guys in college (So I've spent over $100 on the sim). Third time I kept it. I have a few FreeFalcon videos on my YouTube channel even.

When the F-15C cockpit is done I'll have a lot more. I really like the F-16, but I love the F-15.

And their BMS timeline for the next couple years, (I mean, 4-6 weeks) includes a graphics engine overhaul that I'm sure will bring it up to par with DCS. It's almost there now IMHO!

  10. For years I flew Falcon and many of its mods iterations, especially the F-15C cockpit (even if all the displays still had F-16 symbology) until I discovered LOMAC's F-15C. It didn't have a clickable cockpit, and lacked some of its functions (MANY) but I loved it. But LOMAC became FC3/DCS and the F-15's radar/engagement range was nerfed, as were its engines.

Then they fixed the radar/missile ranges, but they nerfed the jet further by having its wings fall off if you pulled over 9G.

As a long time Eagle fanboi, this was FRUSTRATING. I knew it was a Russian-bias thang. And they weren't going to fix it.... so I was forced to settle.

    Or do I?

Last month I found out the Falcon 4 mods were not only going strong, they were adding a precious full fidelity F-15C cockpit with: full flight model fidelity, full cockpit functionality, JHMCS, JTIDS, full clickability....

So I uninstalled DCS/FC3 and re-installed Falcon 4, and the latest greatest mod BMS 4.37. The new Eagel cockpit, not yet released, but in testing, look like pic #1. Whereas the older FC3/DCS Eagle pit looks like pic #2 below.

Note pic#1 has an accurate, functional JTIDS (the God's Eye View in lower right display), and it will also feature a JHMCS (helmet mounted display) although incomplete, will l have the simple functions of the unit.

I was about to give up on flight sims until I saw this. I am excited about carving through the skies in my F-15C Eagle again!

In both these cases you can do this.

If a "vehicle" (IFV, APC, Truck, Helo) is close enough and has spare capacity, you can:

    1. Go to the 3D world.

    2. Right click on the unit icon in the lower right hand corner of the 3D world.

    3. Select "Load troops" and it will list the units nearby that it can take, they do not need to be the original passengers.

    image.thumb.png.b5c47d3edc0a2e6adf762c1b4f1c4e12.png

Here the A Coy Bradley can mount the surviving Javelin team from F Coy as well as its original squad.

This is not an automatic operation (which maybe what you are after) and needs to be done by a human as and when required, but it is possible.

    Oh. Cool.

I've been confused about that little menu downthere but now I underrstand it better.

    Tanks!

  12. The ability to assign units to other units that may not have been their original one. Examples of why this would be useful:

Half my tank platoon is knocked out, and only 1 Bradley remains from the Mech Inf platoon. I attach the Bradley to my platoon to consolidate my withdraw.

I deploy infantry from my Bradleys, but one track loses its infantry to a BMP which also destroyed another Bradley (leaving its infantry stranded) Assign the surviving infantry to the surviving Brad and get them out of there.

A Bradley section deploys their infantry, but then is taken out by artillery. The soldiers have, however, taken cover in nearby buildings. Solution? Secure the area and send in UH-60s to retrieve them. Or, send in trucks (have them dump their infantry behind LOD) to recover the infantry.

John Antal also did a couple books on modern armor warfare where an Armor Troop is sent in with spare M-113s to save a pinned down infantry unit behind enemy lines.

  13. Have I mentioned before the need for units to identify themself when they call out a target? I cant tell if my gunner or my wingman (who could be pointing a different directioni) is calling out the "Tank Right!"

"One-Four! Tank to the front!" As I understand they do it in real world.

The unit names might be need to be simplified for the sim, as I show above.

  14. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the M1/2/3 MAID (Mech Assault Infantry Destroyer).

    1x120MM Main Gun

    2xTOW Launcher

    1x25mm chain gun

    1xM2 .50 cal

    3x7.62 mm

    The Ultimate armor/infantry killer.

  15. LMAO. I posed this question in a Facebook Group of veteran and current Bradley operators and they talking about everything EXCEPT answering the question.... posting pic of the TOW launcher- "This is the TOW launcher elevated". Saying it's heavy they don't drive with it up. Arguing about different versions. Everything but answering the question.

Well ONE person answered saying it's under the BC's control not the gunner's. But only 1 guy out of 8 actually answered the question.
