  1. I agree that the default spring tension is problematic for SB. Fortunately the "warthog spring mod" is pretty simple, (and reversible.)
  2. Have you tried one with the spring mod? It's very simple to do and pretty low risk.
  3. Just think of all the time and art work this will save. Now all the tank interiors will be identical: "transparent!'
  4. Does this mean we have to get support for Oculus rift now? http://www.tu.no/tutv/forsvar/2014/05/05/norwegian-army-driving-armoured-vehicle-using-oculus-rift

The URL in the address bar is for the main page, not the frames inside. If you look at the page source, you'll see plenty of UR: with https:// headers. I can't state authoritatively how that page functions, but there is no reason to believe that you’re at risk. Also, doesn’t the previous page state that they are processing payments through Paypal?
  6. I'm not sure about the ping to an application port. I believe Windows 7 and 8.x ping is limited to ICMP, (that's why you're getting a "host not found" instead of "destination host unreachable".) The ping command does understand that the concatenated IP Address and port number isn't a hostname. Windows typically uses a space instead of the ":" that UNIX does. Ssnake may be using a third-party tool that supports this function. In the meantime, to test whether a specific port is reachable from another machine, you can use telnet: c:\>telnet 10.0.0.4 22350<Enter> You'll probably need to "enable" the telnet client via the "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features". "Turn Windows feature on or off". Scroll down and check the box next to the item named "Telnet Client" Once "enabled" you can run the command line above. If you connecting to the port the command windows will be blank with a blinking curser at the top left corner. You'll need to X out of the window to close it. If the port isn't open or is blocked, you should get an error like: C:\Users\user>telnet 10.0.0.4 22350 Connecting To 10.0.0.4...Could not open connection to the host, on port 22350: Connect failed You can verify this by trying a port you know is probably closed, (like 22355) just to see the difference. BTW, Have you tried adding the server IP address to the search list on the client CODEMETER WebAdmin? (Configuration, Network, Server Search List.) You also may want to check the Windows Firewall "Advanced Setting" inbound and outbound rules to ensure that CodeMeter components are not being blocked.
  7. The solution for me was to select only the upgrade first. Then the secondary. The webpage checks both, even though it doesn't work. The verbiage on the web store mentions it, obliquely.... (once you actually figure it out.)
  8. Anyone know what causes this error? Of how to solve it? Full text: "The license cannot be transferred into this CmContainer. Please choose a different CmContainer and try again. Error Code = 0x1808000" Both from the webdepot and the offline method. CM firmware is: 1.18 Codemeter is 5.00d Capacity is: 98% (58758 Bytes) OS: Windows 7 64bit and Window 8 x64
  9. I use the Warthog for Steelbeasts. If you're not planning to use your Warthog for heavy flying, you may want to consider doing a "Big Spring-cetomy": It greatly reduces the resistance, making tracking easier, (it's also non-destructive and easily reversible.) I'd also recommend grabbing xpadder for programming the stick to simplify the process: http://xpadder.com/
  10. The ability to dismount the vehicle to reconnoiter.
  11. It runs fine. You need to upgrade your codemeter. See: http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?p=211403#post211403
  12. 1. Browse to “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers” 2. Right-click on the game controller ICON 3. Choose “Game controller settings” 4. Click [Adavanced…] 5. Select “Prefered device:” from drop-down list 6. Click [OK]
  13. Here is my button mapping for the stick. The graphic is for the CH, but thanks to Superbus's recommendation of XPADDER software, I've ported the functions to the Warthog. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/163/whsteelbeasts.jpg The HAT on the lower right controls crew position and has some macros. The gunner switches to the GPS automatically, and the driver toggles the Coolie HAT to mouse movement so the driver can PAN his view.
  14. Anyone experiencing issues installing SB-PE or the Codemeter Runtime under Windows 8 Dev or Consumer "preview" may want to check this link: http://www.wibu.com/en/support-downloads/developer/faq-developer/question/single/the-installation-of-codemeter-runtime-on-windows-8-beta-fails-is-there-a-way-to-test-with-windows-8.html Or simply download the Runtime .MSI's from here: http://www.wibu.com/en/downloads-developer-software.html
  15. This is my game PC. Nothing remarkable except for the lefthanded gamepad which I also use for SB.
  16. I’m happy with it. The increased resolution really seems to help, (particularly with those sub-orbital heat rounds used by the Strv 122.) I’ve done the “Big Spring-ectomy” mentioned on the Eagle.ru forum and in this video: So it doesn’t require much effort to cross the center of the axes. The buttons are a bit stiff, (allegedly realistically), but they are crisp. I like the simplicity of the way the base is attached, (4 x 4mm screws), so it easy to remove to make a custom mount. The throttle is a beast, and is impressive in its own right, (although mine’s been out of the box just long enough to ensure that all 28 switches work. The one thing that kept me from buying one previously was that I could never find any seller who offered an unconditional return policy. Amazon would be my first choice, but they’re always out of stock. I just happened to hit on a reseller, that I’d previously business with for other products, that sells the WARTHOG and permits returns. For those in the US, you might want to consider http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/743173-REG/Thrustmaster_2960720_Hotas_Warthog_Flight_Stick.html
  17. Just a follow-up in case someone else runs into this issue. The cause appears to be T.A.R.G.E.T.'s use of absolute mouse coordinates in the 3D views, (which apparently aren't supported?) Thanks to Superbus, I switched to Xpadder to map the functions I need.
  18. I’m trying to troubleshoot an issue with mouse emulation on the WARTHOG in the 3D views. I’m trying to port over a feature from my CH Fighterstick to the WARTHOG, (mapping HAT1 to the mouse when in the driver’s unbuttoned position.) Thanks to Teej over at SIMHQ, I’m able to toggle the HAT between DX buttons and the mouse. However, the mouse is unusable do to erratic behavior. You can see here on two videos the difference between the CH and WARTHOG. Both work normally in the map view, (the sensitivity on the WARTHOG is turned much lower than the CH in an attempt reduce the abnormal movements as much as possible.) In the 3D view it’s a different story. The CH movement is little choppy, but that’s simply because the initial settings I programmed it with were adequate for my purposes. With the WARHOG, the view immediately veers to the limits of travel and stays there after the direction of input is reversed, at which point it overshoots the center. The last video shows what appears to be the problem. I added a large delay in the command to allow me some control. I attempt to move in one direction, down 10 times. At that point I start entering up commands, but the mouse moves down ~10 more times. When it finally reverses, the pattern repeats. Only after the “buffer” of bad/old direction commands is exhausted, does the movement change direction. While I don’t think that this is a “bug” in SteelBeasts, it does seem to be a peculiarity about how it handles mouse commands in the 3D view. If anyone familiar with the program could enlighten me on what might be causing this behavior, it would go a long way toward helping me figure out how to fix it. (Of course you could also just add button/keyboard support in the driver’s unbuttoned view and I be happy.) 19. I’d think you'd probably need to do something more elaborate. Something like what is done for the mouse, where the physical input device controls a virtual cursor whose position controls the rate of turn.
  20. I prefer a joystick for similar reasons. Although in my case, the effects of RSI and arthritis make prolonged use of my left hand painful. By offloading most of the button-pressing to my joystick-hand, I can get by with a more comfortable gamepad for inputting the remaining commands instead of a keyboard. I’d like to see an option to add some “smoothing” to the joystick input, averaging out the response to eliminate some of the jerkiness, (particularly near the center of the axis.) Many joysticks have configuration utilities, (I use a CH Fighterstick), but there are limits to the amount of control they provide. If you turn down the sensitivity enough to permit accurate tracking, then you can’t get the turret to traverse at full speed if needed. CH utilities also supports tuning the response curve of the axes, but it’s not precise enough to be useful. I’d be happy to spend $1K on a more precise joystick as long as I could try it out for 30 days and could get 3 -5 years of support for it. (I got rid of my Courage when the POTS got “spiky”, so getting a FSSB R2 would be a lot more painful and risky, since I’d have to turn to ebay to find a replacement stick.) I know the standard response is that SB is a training tool for tactics and not gunnery and mouse input is cheaper, (since it is obligatory in a class room environment), but it doesn’t mean that there isn’t anything that could be done technically to improve joystick input.
  21. I have an early XFX HD-597A-CNB9, (ATI reference), card. Initally, I had some issues in Win7 x64 with some titles, (not SB, BFBC2 Corrupt textures.) WinXP was fine. Since Q2 of this year, I can't think of any. I'm using a HX1000, but I also ran it using an 2 year old Antec Quattro 1000.
