One problem with the game mechanics is that in order to capture a region, you must have physical presence in it. In reality, and this is important to keep in mind with respect to this scenario, it is sufficient to control a region. Which can be done by observation and fire (the terrain permitting). The center region would have been better off by controlling it from the north and south with stronger forces in either area, and a minimal force to occupy the region in the area behind the ridge line. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, though. Still, it's useful to mentally separate what are game mechanics from the tactical requirements, and to follow the game mechanics only where they either support the chosen tactic, or where (when!) they at least are not to the detriment of military requirements.
