  1. Reading current accounts of recent events in Ukraine.

The shear number of captured Russian equipment is staggering.

I can not understand why retreating crews do not destroy there vehicles.

    Rather then see them captured.

Even under pressure to move quickly you could simple drop a grenade in the turret

    And run like hell.

I know in WW2 this was the case.

Do individual armies have different rules or such an action.

And can soldiers get in to trouble for destroying there own vehicles.

     question.

will the APS currently modelled in game be a defence against the sprite

What are the chances of shooting one out of the sky.

assuming you can spot one with say autocannon with Airburst ammo

Have any of the Beta testers tried it.

The Leopard 1 are safe, they will not be sent, also reports of Germany blocking Spain's Leopards 2A4. Most likely they (Leo1) will remain in manufactures stock, or scraped, or museums around the world. The last option is the best for these old war horse's.

The reported reason is somewhat strange, but we live in strange times.

    Cooler heads have prevailed. :)

    Thank you Germany!

Theirs still life in the old cat yet, lol

They sold 250 Marders to Greece instead of Ukr.

The Leopard 1 is an older and relatively light western MBT. The turret has been redesigned and provides more protection than the original versions, but the armour is barely adequate against light autocannon using modern ammunition. The L7 rifled gun is very accurate, and with modern ammunition remains a credible threat even against main battle tanks. The fire control system consists of the EMES-18, a modified leopard 2 sight made to fit inside the leopard 1, and incorporates a Thermal sight, dual axis stabilized head mirror, laser range finder, and dynamic lead. the commanders' PANO can be used for rapid range estimation of exposed targets even without a functional Laser Range Finder.----SB Wiki----

I dont see the Leo1s as being much better than the T72B3s.Theyre old and lacking in armor and firepower.Im no expert on Leos but feel free to correct me.Its nothing more than a big IFV on the modern battlefield.Nothing against the Leo its a fine MBT in later variants and upgrades.

You are correct to a degree,

But in A4/5 version the fire control is still good enough in the defence, and the thermal is probably superior to the B3

As for firepower there are some very effective 105 rounds available.

The Israelis in particular have developed rounds capable out taking out a T-72B3

To bad they couldnt get some Jaguars.

Some marders would be beneficial as well.

But i think they scraped them.

The The Czech Republic, have donated some old T-72s the m variant from what i could make out and BMP1 IFVs.

Poland would probably be the Ukrainians best best for Quick delivery of armour they have a decent amount of former Soviet equipment

In War stocks, whether or not. they would be prepared to weaken there own reserves is debatable.

  6. Your opinion,

Would the Leo-1a4/5 still be a viable weapons platform. in the current conflict.

I believe it would, it still has a viable gun and fire control in the A5/a4 variant

But one has to take crew  training and maintenance in to consideration.

    All this takes Time

For this reason i believe purchasing used T72s would be a better option for the Ukrainians
    What do you guys think.

(Guys, just discussing the merits of using an old platform)

  7.

    Again its only my opinion,

But some type of custom design with APS.

And the ability to lay down intense suppressive fire

Even better if the design was remotely controlled

May be a better alternative then sending tanks in to urban combat

    Valid points all

To add my 50 cents, then I have been doing OPFOR for Kanium for years. I do not consider my job to win.

But rather to emulate real combat within the limitations of my limited skillset and knowledge as well as the software.

So IMHO you got to leave your ego at the door. Because you have to keep +20 guys entertained, and hopefully challenged. So more a teacher/trainer role to add depth and unpredictability to the simulation.

But perhaps more relevantly, then I consider my task to be to give the players a challenge as well as a fun experience. We play in this context to have fun in our sparetime.

    Money ... ?

    Well ...

Me and a few other guys have also been presenting the software at Copenhagen Games, but not for money. But rather because it was fun, but having said that then again IMHO if your goal is to make mney, then make it happen.

Find your way whether its streaming or tying it in with other activities. And just do it. Fail or no then try doing it with 100% effort.

    Well said sir.

Most missions i participate in lead to mutual destruction if the opfor has equipment of similar quality.

    why the sense of urgency.?

Poland already has a very considerable armoured force.

The T-72 fleet are equal if not superior to any potential threat from the east.

    Not the T72-m But the  T-72M1R, PT-91, PT-91MA, PT-91MA1. are more then a match

Also the leo fleet even with out the upgrades are superior.

also no dispute with any nations right to defend its self. that's beyond question.

But it does amuse me when the media and annalists make out Russia has the capability invade Western Europe

Yes it has the power to intimidate its nearest neighbours and has large numbers of reserve tanks IFV etc.

But how much is even serviceable. look at the recent conflicts the performance was poor to say the least.

My original post was not to question the polish decision to purchase more tanks.

The M1a2s SEP  is one if the best tank of this generation of Tanks.

There are some new designs out there.

My original post was to question if such a large purchase that will probably still be in service for the next twenty/ thirty years.

    Is the best choice

to be honest i was thinking of the new French German design.

But its long way away from manufacture and deployment.
