  1. I really enjoyed Townsville. I managed to get up to Cairns for a weekend before joining the exercise. We also managed to blag 4 nights in Sydney after the Ex. Koogi beach is a hidden gem.
  2. Evening, I think 12X still have it this year so more likely 1Yorks. If it is tough on them as they will only just have got back from Estonia after 9 months. You were right about the BATUS comparison......yours is much worse!
  3. I hope they have enough turrets left to retro fit on our CR2s as part of the LEP!
  4. Yes BV is standard but it was not unknown to break one open and wire the elements to an old ammo box to create a toaster. Nothing beats drinking and eating tea and toast while pitying the poor guys in a trench. They always got their payback by shooting out our rear sights and putting holes in our sleeping bags on the range.
  5. Ah the CR1 pics bring back memories. Good times. No 2 tanks were the same since crews use to mod them to make them more homely. May tanks come with a BV and a homemade toaster.
  6. D sqn in armoured regiments are now Command and Reconnaissance sqns so call signs will be of the CO or regt 2IC. Looks lovely. There never seems to be any love for the other 2 tank regts though
  7. They're only olive green if they have been through Base overhaul. The vanguard fleet are all green also. However you will still find tan in BATUS, green and black or green and tan over the rest of the world. At £700 for a 5l tin of special paint, it's a bit expensive to make the fleet look pretty!
  8. Thank you. Worked a treat.
  9. Good morning, I am hoping one of you fine gentleman can assist me? I am playing around with video recording different scenarios. Is there a way of disabling the voices letting us all know that they are in contact or arrived at check point etc? I have searched on here and I have also looked for sound files I could move out of the game folder and replace once I have finished, but no luck. Is it possible? Thank you in advance.
  10. Anything with a single diagonal line through denotes recce in APP6A.
  11. I believe the British Army looked into the costs of replacing the CR2 with the M1A2 and Leopard A6 with a maintenance contract over 10 years. Can't remember the figures quoted but came in around £2.1 billion for M1 and £2.9 billion for Leopard.
  12. Boo. I got up at 0430 in the freezing cold to watch that pump. You're right about Cultana. It's pretty grim.
  13. If 3RAR are still wearing maroon then we must be hosted by 2RAR. They want us to bring out our mess kit for a function. Magnetic island it is then. Potentially putting us in comms with the engagement people might be a great idea. We are bringing the C.O etc. They may engage with us during the Ex anyway but you never know. No where can be as bad as BATUS surely?
  14. Thank you for all the suggestions so far. They all will help me plan a head. I will probably pop back on with some more questions once I get some clarification if I may? I believe we're being hosted by either 2RAR or 3RAR. Can't remember off the top of my head. We did pop across and had a chat and a climb over M1s for an afternoon it the Cav guys. Nice bunch.
  15. I'm looking at flying in to Townsville for about a week, then I get to go army camping down in Cultana for the exercise. At the moment we are probably looking at maybe a week after the ex before we depart in July. I may have a few days up Townsville way before making our way to Cultana. I know it's not much time in real terms but I'm looking to spend all my wages and max out my credit cards if need be. Details are still sketchy. Only had info coming in dribs and drabs. Thanks for your ideas so far.
  16. I have the honour of being invited over to take part in Ex Hamel next month in sunny Oz. Now I know that multi national exercises are great and all that but I am more concerned with my little bit of R and R before and after. I have experienced Townsville and the delights of Tuesdays student night, and renamed some wildlife (cun* birds, who attacked me every day going to the mess for dinner, and magpie parrots) and sweating my tits off in the humidity. Australia is a pretty big place. What else should I experience? (Beside swimming with Nemo) I will probably only have a week to travel about and I want to maximise my time. I would ideally like to combine a bit of culture with alot of drinking. XXXX was my choice of drink last time. Is this your equivalent of kangaroo piss? Should I be drinking something else to make me look more manly? Thanks in advance.
  17. Who is to say the primary sight (big one on top) can't be swapped out for an RWS with either .50/GMG/Javalin
  18. Warrior 510 has the storage for up to 8 LAW80. In NLAW any bigger?
  19. Another piece of a bit of history will be occurring next weekend when the KRH celebrate their tercentenary by doing some marching stuff and what not at the Tidworth polo grounds.
  20. There is currently no independent TI in the commanders sight. He can only view TI through the sight extention as previously mentioned. There are plans to swap out for a Catherine TI sometime in the future I believe.
  21. If this ever happens can we have it for CR2 aswell and for Warrior and Scimitar if/when BGTI is simulated in the game please ☺
  22. The ride in a BMP 2 is surprisingly smooh cross country. I was expecting to loose teeth in my jolly. I was in the commanders position though. I don't rate the chances of the dismount though.
  23. The Panther has been my vehicle for the passed 2 years and in that time have used in from the prairies of Canada to the sandy training area of Zagan in Poland. Some people love them, some people hate them. I love them. Reliability can be an issue but it seems to be the same issues over and over but usually confined to certain vehicles. If you get a good one it usually stays a good one, it doesn't break down. As a comms platform it's great. Used as rebros or as a liason is best. It will not replace a Sultan or a Bulldog as a command vehicle. For a 2 man crew the vehicle is fine for space. 3 men and your pushing it a bit depending on what your role is. It comes with a trailer if required for all of your storage needs. Cross country is fantastic. In Poland, which was mainly deep sand it had no issues with mobility. We were over taking Leopards A4 cross country. On the static stand, it was drawing alot of attention from Polish staff officers who eventually brought the General over to have a look and play with the RWS and look at the Bowman and cabby around to check the mobility. So if Poland do ever order it I should take a cut really for selling it!
  24. Usually the delay is carried out but the tank squadron. The withdrawal can be used to shape the OPFOR ( in conjunction with the wider picture ie at Brigade or Div level) to lure them in to your Main Defence Area (MDA). The squadron withdraws to the MDA where the infantry ( obviously dug in, overlapping arcs etc halt the enemy advance with their layered defence ( ATGW into main armament into LAW etc). Once the OPFOR has lost momentum, what's left of the tanks/ reserves counter attack pushing back or destroying the rest. Well that's usually the plan. In reality.......
  25. The delay is one of the hardest to get right. Its always a toss up between staying to lo g taking out targets and leaving it to late, or withdrawing to early and running out of space to trade for time. Ideally you want 1 foot on the ground to cover withdrawing forces because if you leave it too late you could end up by passing the next blocking position and rushing to the next. Not very controlled and while you are running your tits off, no one will have eyes on the enemy.
