  1. No, no one said that the Leopardo 2E would have the high polygon count. It is simple: the updated M1A1 (HA) and Leopard 2A4 models are the most recent, so they have the "new" higher poly count. Everything made before that does not.
  2. Raino, you are going to make people cream in their man panties.
  3. OK, I see. Well, if I had to guess, the music was mixed quite loudly because that is what GO wanted; the song was taking front stage to the rest of the audio which is perfectly fine. Otherwise, you would have the game turned up much louder than it is in the video. Although it might have sounded that way, I did not intend anything harsh with the previous post really, other than the fact that I could not understand why the condemnation was leveled so quickly from a You Tube video. Oh well, no harm done. I know that there is a possibility that not everyone will like the new changes that I have made, but I am the one that has to make the difficult decisions on what to change for a long term objective with the bigger picture of the overall quality of the listening experience in mind. Anyway, just be sure to remember that you will have to turn up the sound louder than it was before (Team Speak will have to be turned down to compensate) and that you will have to cut the volume in existing sound mods by 50%. When all that is done, there shouldn't be any complaint that it is too weak, unless the modded sounds are drowning the other sounds out because their volume is too high -- which would not be my problem.
  4. I am not sure what to say, or if I should even say anything at all. The T-80 sounds were taken from a reference video that we have, but I am sure you can come up with something with artificial sweeteners in it if you like. As with everything in the sim, and I can be quoted on this from now until the End of Days, these sounds ARE actual recordings or, in the absence of a high quality recording, they are references of actual recordings. If you think they are being pulled out of a hat somewhere then you are mistaken. This is particularly true for the M1 and Leos, those sounds are as accurate as they can be humanly recorded. The reality is, you can take one step to the side and record the same sound and it will be completely different. You can also record the same sound with a poor quality microphone and it will again be totally different. Alas, not everyone can use YouTube as a source of "realistic sound"; I say that in jest because the last thing YouTube sounds are is "realistic", given the poor quality of the recordings and the frequency cutoff of the camera microphones. But perception is 99% of reality, or something like that. The reality is, people don't really want reality, they want a "sweetened" version of reality. But what do I know. A little nugget of wisdom for modders: It is far easier to add a brush stroke to someone else's painting than it is to take a blank canvas and create art. If you keep that in the back of your mind then you might have some humility.
  5. Well, it is an ongoing series that currently consists of: NORMANDY '44 SMOLENSK '41 KHARKOV '42 TOBRUK '41 BULGE '44 KORSUN '44 KURSK '43 SICILY '43 RZHEV '42 MARKET-GARDEN '44 EL AlAMEIN '42 FRANCE '40 SALERNO '43 MOSCOW '41 STALINGRAD '42 MINSK '44 BUDAPEST '45 You would be hard pressed to find this level of detail in a similar battalion and company level game of the period, much less games that cover many of these battles. I have played these "real time" Matrix Games before and they just aren't my cup o' tea. Oh well, it is the whole turn based vs. "real time" preference of course, but I do like to play both.
  6. Here is an operational level Bulge game you should consider picking up: http://www.hpssims.com/Pages/products/PZC/PZC_bulge/Bulge.html ...ignore the ugly graphics, those have long since been improved here: www.volcanomods.com
  7. Well, I took the video to explain the differences between Democracy and a Republic, and the misconceptions of the public in thinking the US is a true Democracy -- as the video seems to clearly state. I think people generally tend to read too much into something so simple, just like my comment about what was so funny about the video. Lets all calm down and take a deep breath.
  8. If you bring up US government / civics in a forum frequented by Europeans, then many will naturally think it is funny, or offer up some enlightening "gem" of a comment. It is quite sad really; I would not dare comment on European civics, simply because of the fact that I do not live there. That alone probably does not make me to make the most... qualified person comment if that were the case, but everyone loves to get their uneducated jab in on the US. Taking a pass on the opportunity of getting a hateful jab in on the US would be like passing up on claiming your lottery winnings. The reality is, too many people get their world view of the US from movies, music, YouTube, and "non-biased" national news sources like the good little sponges they are. That is probably not the case here, just a general opinion on what I have observed in my time. It reminds me of the time I confronted the German salesman in the "Joh's" department store in Friedburg, Germany on why he had the US flag hanging upside down in a Levis Jeans display. He said he didn't know it was upside down.... right. No one likes the US, but the world sure does like the Levis Jeans, Coca Cola, computer games, computers, Internet, and the general money that gets pumped into the world from it. All things considered, the video is logical in the sense that a true democracy is simply mob rule. Where anything and everything goes if the mob wishes it. If that is what the video is trying to portray then Awesome Show, Great Job.
  9. Also, if it has not been said already, give your units a good distance before and after the bridge before you have the route turn abruptly and especially before you have it change out of column formation. A lot of people give their platoon a march / column across a bridge and then, one meter on the other side, they have the platoon go into a wedge / top speed / assault order. I don't think I can recall the last time I had a vehicle drown in the river at a crossing honestly. Some people will swear you have to sit in the TC hatch and cross each vehicle manually, but you don't have to be that anal about it really, just give them march / column / close spacing and give them a good 100-200 meters straight path before and after the bridge and you won't have to babysit them at all. That is not the say the AI water avoidance cannot be improved of course...
  10. Here is something else that might be useful: http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbwiki/index.php/M1A1_(HA) ....seems like this is being posted in every thread lately.
  11. I could be wrong, but I think AAR file sizes are improving over time (they are getting smaller). So in the near future uploading an AAR might be more practical.
  12. I think the Bradley has it, but I could be mistaken.
  13. Sounds more and more like a graphics card issue then... that is what we are trying to determine. Funny how everyone assumes it is always Vista (including myself), simply because it has such a bad reputation.
  14. I don't see what the big deal is, he can always make millions by selling them to police around the world. I guess that is tidly winks to the money he could make if the US Army adopts it as standard issue though... ahh, greed.
  15. If you are referring to the M1A0, or even the old M1A1 (pre "HA") then yes, they were operational back then. The plan of course would be that the day these are ever added to SB, the smoke generator would work on them. All smoke generators now days are physically disconnected -- it is not as if the driver just has piece of paper taped over the smoke generator switch that says "Do not use!".
  16. Volcano

    Whats this?

What about the tank on the right of the photo? T-55, anyone? Ramses? We used to have to do vehicle ID based on partial piece of a vehicle showing. That might make for a good thread... partial photo vehicle ID.
  17. To add to what Ssnake said, also keep in mind -- and this was proven to me recently -- that "towns" where map designers have placed buildings on top of other buildings to create a unique look and shape to buildings will especially cripple the frame rates. The more of these buildings that overlap, even in the slightest bit, the greater the frame rate loss will be. I recently played a scenario with a ton of buildings with none of them overlapping and the frame rate remained exceptional. It may be worth a look at some of the old maps...
  18. I meant to say the other night: that was a fun mission with a lot of stuff going on and the terrain was very interesting. Thanks for contributing the scenario Tacbat.
  19. Just a small correction, I think you mean to say "Jump to end if..." condition on the first route.
  20. It looks like you have version v175 drivers. For anyone that does not know, you can go to the nvidia website and click on "download drivers" then, on the next page, click on "Beta and Archived Drivers" in the "Other Downloads and Support" section. From there you can download an old archived video driver. For US users it is this link: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us Anyway, I will try out the v175 drivers now and report back if I have noticed any substantial increase in frame rates in a few weeks.
  21. I have noticed that my: nVidia Geforce 7800 GS ...gets about a 2/3 reduction in frame rates when I upgraded the drivers to v178.24. I am not sure what driver version I had before this, but it was probably a year old and came with the card. The DX diagnostic "nv4_displ.dll" file version is 6.14.0011.7824.
  22. Don't mind Dejawolf, he is just being pessimistic. The update will arrive precisely when it means to: when it is deemed acceptable by the QA group. To speculate on the date would be foolishness, we already have an estimated window of February, so lets leave it at that.
  23. It does depend mostly on how you script the helicopter unit, just giving it an engage route into the mouth of the enemy will surely get them killed in droves. That said, it is certainly possible that the damage model could be a contributing factor, and if it is then eSim will address it in a periodic review at some point. But the main thing is that you make the helicopters evasive, with the use of guard orders and fall back positions (units with a guard tactic will embark on the next route when fired upon). This this way, you can have the helicopters move forward, engage, then fall back to a secondary position when shot at.
  24. Well, having spent hundreds of hours in CCTT, to think that it is better than SB Pro is laughable at best. The only thing that CCTT has going for it is the hardware integration with the vehicle turret and control handles, but I suppose any software can be tailored to use such an interface. Of course to CCTT's credit, it was around about 5 years before SB1 came into existence and unlike SB, CCTT does not evolve with updates (to my knowledge). Also, CCTT is much better than the old SIMNET.
