Upcoming Update question

Werebear

Recommended Posts

I've I have not played this game for a few years but have kept an eye on the forums from time to time and now see that there is a new update to be released soon.

So I was hoping that someone could tell me what graphic updates are planned for the new update.

I'm hoping that the textures and models of most of the ingame content are being totally updated and that shadows will be implemented.

Would appreciate if someone could inform me so I can start saving :)

Cheers

Well April is here - 1/3 of it is behind us now already.

Any news on update - im happy owner of Sb Pro Pe for long time, and i was playing this series since first SB - I remember how i was happy with HUGE gfx improvement when i tried SB pro PE after original game. :debile2:

Can any of devs ( moderators...etc) share a bit more light on what can we expect in new update - maybe some screen shot, some video etc..?

Or we are still too far away from any confirmed deadline and there are noinfo around yet?

Well apart from the non specific nature of "released around April" (arguably Mar and May are both "around" April), there is no "dedicated thread" if that is what you are looking for, but ...

In line with the shotgun* nature of these things there are details here:

http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?t=18955

http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?t=19005

http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?t=16028 (scattered throughout I guess the last three pages)

http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?t=15661 (last two pages or so).

* "shotgun" because people tend not to look for a similar thread before launching their own and the answers/responses end up getting scattered all over the place.

E.g.: This post has 3 responses, whereas "Update news?" has 36 or so.

No one has released any "official" teaser screenshots or videos yet though.

Thank you for fast reply!

I scanned those threads already - I was hoping for some more news, and above all - price of update ( rumors are 25$).

I guess as date of release is closer and closer more news will start to appear, so all we need to do is to be patient for just a while.

That doesn't mean it always will be $25 USD. At some point they may charge more for an essentially new engine, or for content that offers a lot more than what might be construed as an 'update' as it had been.

You'll want it, you'll pay for it, and you'll get it.

Eh, the first week might be a bit tricky....

These rumors are false.

Exactly.

I'm currently on a business trip, but once that I return from it and the programmers agree on a code freeze, and once that the work on the new engine is basically complete save for efficiency improvements and bug fixes I will start making screenshots and talk about new features. Before these condition aren't met, anything that I could say could create false impressions of what you can to expect.

I think this will be more of a whole new sim,not an update.Probally more than $25.00.A Ssnake said the rumors are false....unless its less than $25.00,WHICH I SERIOUSLY DOUBT.LOL:eek2:

Since the development team as been expended, since this is the mother of all upgrades, it is expectable to see the price increased as well.

Come home quick Ssnake we can't wait! :)

Not Deepest Darkest Surrey I hope?

Entire Tank Regiments have been lost there! :)

Can I request revised minimum likely specifications as well?

Thanks.

More like deepest, brightest Spain. Have a sunburn already. The suffering in unimaginable.

You mean hardware recommendations?

I think it's best to wait until the beta testers have had a go at it, and come back with performance results.

Is the Pro community already running the new engine, or are we in the same boat?

No.

Yes.

AIUI, every country that has bought the product has signed up to a "nation specific" support contract.

Basically, more money, receive more frequent updates. Although there is shared development so vehicle X developed for our use is available to other countries (and commercial users) too.

Certainly for "us" we have updates (I can't divulge which version we are currently running) but we certainly aren't running "3.something" and smirking that the commercial market is now catching up.

No. If a nation has a maintenance contract, the program managers can request an update whenever they like, based on the change logs. Typically however, in order to avoid too many roll-outs, only one or two updates a year are actually wanted.

During development of a customization project, prototypes are sent out more often, but only a few specialists would inspect them in the process of an acceptance test.

...there is shared development so vehicle X developed for our use is available to other countries (and commercial users) too.

Correct.

Of course, there are new developments ready for use and others which are not - the new engine being one of the things which are not yet ready for general use.

Interesting. Are there any features the PE community might request which the Pro clients definitely would not want? I imagine any conflicting requirements would be decided by eSim in favour of its Pro clients. However, it strikes me that the desire for better lighting / environmental effects is being driven by PE users but will also "benefit" PE clients. "Benefit" is also interesting because I imagine shadows, to choose one possible example, have a tactical impact that may require some changes to training syllabi for PE clients, which they may or may not welcome depending on how it is used as a training tool...

Anyway, I'm pretty sure us PE users get a good deal from the symbiotic relationship with the Pro clients! :drink:

Well "we" (Aust) didn't want (i.e. didn't ask for) a playable T-72.

Nor have we asked for any M1 upgrades.

I don't think we care too much about lighting etc. either (we don't use it primarily as a 3D world crew trainer).

But we'll take what we get as long as we also get what we ask/pay for (which we do).
