General

Based on a stretched MTLB chassis, the 2S1 (Rus: 2C1 "Carnation") is a fully amphibious 122mm self-propelled howitzer developed by the former Soviet Union and entered service in the early 1970s. It is in common usage by nearly all former Russo/Soviet client states along with numerous second and third world militaries. The turret mounted 122mm 2A18 howitzer is based on the D-30 towed howitzer and fires HE, HE/RAP, HEAT (direct fire), flechette, leaflet, and various chemical rounds. As currently modeled, the 2S1 is intended as a mobile artillery placeholder/target and is not actually functional as an indirect-fire artillery piece, though it does possess limited direct-fire self-defense capability.
