The Recon (short for Reconnaissance and commonly known as Recce [pronounced Reck-ee]) category covers a wide variety of wheeled and tracked platforms “optimized” for reconnaissance operations. Typically these vehicles carry a one to three man dismounted scout team and rely on combination of speed and stealth to accomplish their missions. Often lightly armored, if armed such units generally only carry defensive weapons, but some platforms like the M3A2 Bradley or Centauro B1 have sufficient armor and fire power to “fight” for intelligence and perform traditional cavalry operations such as counter-reconnaissance, screening, and economy of force.
