General

The PT-76 is an amphibious light tank designed by the Soviet Union in the early 1950s. Utilized in reconnaissance and fire-support roles, the tank has a simple design, good cross country capability, and is fully amphibious (including ship to shore and choppy deep water operations) with minimal preparation. The modeled version is the PT-76B armed with a dual-axis stabilized 76.2 mm D-56TS rifled tank gun, a 7.62mm SGMT coaxial machine gun, and other improvements over previous versions including: a new engine, increased range, improved observation and electric equipment, improved TShK-2-66 sight, and the PAZ NBC protection system. Manufactured in large numbers from 1951 to 1967, the PT-76 has seen service with more than thirty countries with the largest concentrations in Russia, North Korea, and Vietnam.
