General

The T-72B1 is an 1985 improvement of the T-72A, with new thickened front turret armour giving it the nickname "super dolly parton", and containing "BDD" (a NERA [Non-Explosive Reactive Armour] type armour array). The T-72B1 differs from the T-72B by lacking the ability to fire the laser guided 9K120 SVIR ATGM round. Armed with the 2A46M gun, this offers improved barrel life over the 2A46 fitted inside the T-72A, and a more powerful engine has been fitted to cope with the increased weight. Distinguishing features is the thicker front turret, smoke grenade launchers on the left of the turret, snorkel on the rear, and an additional stowage bin on the left of the turret. Minor additional details are rubberized front fenders. In Steel Beast Pro PE the T-72B is modeled in two versions: the T-72B1 m.1985 lacking reactive armour, and the T-72B1 m.2012 model equipped with the Kontakt-1 reactive armour suite and survivability improvements such as no stowed ammunition, slightly more protection to the ready ammunition in the carousel, and hull sponson fuel tanks filled with sand.
