General

The Vehículo de Combate de Artillería (Artillery Combat Vehicle), or VCA-155, is a 155mm self-propelled howitzer base off an elongated TAM chassis fitted with Oto Melara's Palmaria SPG turret. Developed in the late 1980's and early 1990's to replace the Argentinian Army's AMX-13 Mk. F-3 155 mm artillery vehicles, a total of 19 were delivered by 1995.

Primary armament consists of a Rhinemetall manufactured 155mm/L36 howitzer mounted in the complete turret assembly of the Oto Melara Palmaria SPG carrying a total of 28 155mm rounds. A 7.62mm FN MAG 60-20 (M240G) machine-gun at the commander's station forms the vehicle's secondary armament. Turret armor for the VCA is lighter than that of other TAM variants, but hull protection remains identical. Due the the longer hull and heavy turret, vehicle performance is reduced to 55kph on road and considerably less off road.

Designed specifically for the Argentinian Army, the TAM VAC-155 has not been exported to other nations.
