  1. KANIUM FRIDAY 29TH OF DEC 1700 UTC "OPERATION LION" BY Swordsmandk also known as "Kanium New Years special (Long scenario 4-6 hours)" Where: Kanium TS : teamspeak3.i3d.net:10077 Early start 1700 UTC Everybody is welcome Long scen about 3-6 hours (Early starting time) Merry Christmas & a Happy new year Backstorie: 24/12 1979 Soviet troops invaded Afghanistan July 1980 A number of countries including the USA boycotted the summer Olympics held in Moscow in protest at the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Other countries including Great Britain participated under the Olympic flag rather than their national flag 13/12 1980 Martial law was declared to crush the Solidarity movement June 1982 During a summit in Geneva Reagan proposed Strategic Arms Reduction Talks Two days after Leonid Brezhnev's death, on 12 November 1982, Andropov was elected General Secretary of the CPSU, the first former head of the KGB to become General Secretary. His appointment was received in the West with apprehension, in view of his roles in the KGB and in Hungary. Andropov attempted to improve the economy by raising management effectiveness without changing the principles of socialist economy. In contrast to Brezhnev's policy of avoiding conflicts and dismissals, he began to fight violations of party, state and labour discipline, which led to significant personnel changes. In foreign policy, the war continued in Afghanistan. Andropov's rule was also marked by deterioration of relations with the United States. U.S. plans to deploy Pershing missiles in Western Europe in response to the Soviet SS-20 missiles were contentious. On 8 March 1983, during Andropov's reign as General Secretary, U.S. President Ronald Reagan labeled the Soviet Union an "evil empire". The same month, on 23 March, Reagan announced the Strategic Defense Initiative. Reagan claimed this research program into ballistic missile defense would be "consistent with our obligations under the ABM Treaty". However, Andropov was dismissive of this claim, and said that "It is time they stopped searching for the best ways of unleashing nuclear war. Engaging in this is not just irresponsible. It is insane". Meanwhile, Soviet-U.S. arms control talks on intermediate-range nuclear weapons in Europe were suspended by the Soviet Union in November 1983 and by the end of the year, the Soviets had broken off all arms control negotiations. Cold War tensions were exacerbated by Soviet fighters downing a civilian jet liner, Korean Air Flight KAL-007, which carried 269 passengers and crew, including a congressman from Georgia, Larry McDonald. KAL 007 had strayed over the Soviet Union on 1 September 1983 on its way from Anchorage, Alaska. In February 1983, Andropov suffered total renal failure. In August 1983, he entered the Central Clinical Hospital in western Moscow on a permanent basis. In late January 1984 Andropov's health deteriorated sharply and due to growing toxicity in his blood, he had periods of failing consciousness. He died on 9 February 1984 at 16:50 in his hospital room at age 69. Few of the top Soviet leaders, not even all the Politburo members, learned of his death on that day. In a move that astounded the west, then Konstantin Chernenko, who was appointed to be the next General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, was toppled in a bloodless coup by Communist hardliners backed by the military, and led by Minister of Defence of the Soviet Union Dmitriy Ustinov. Ustinov has become acting General Secretary, thus coalescing all power in one person. The Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact has since tightened in all reform efforts, and has in fact gone back to the Hardline Brezhnev stance. Soviet defence expenditures and exercise cycles have been sharply increased, leading to widespread fear in the West and NATO. NATO protests have not been heard in the east, where military forces have increased their readiness. It is now August 1984, and the tensions are higher than ever with massive Soviet exercise’s along the eastern and northern fronts of NATO. The new American movie “Red Dawn” that have just premiered, paints a controversial and scary picture of a USA invaded by the Soviet Union but mirrors big and growing fears of a very real possibility of an impending Soviet attack. The fact of the matter is that the soviet forces outnumber NATO forces in every aspect. Moreover then Peace movements, some of which are infiltrated by Traitors – what Lenin called Useful Idiots - and others which are just fronts for KGB and GRU, hinder every move that NATO tries to make in addressing the inequality. This includes Nuclear Weapons where Soviet Weapons somehow is not to be as big a problem as NATO´s. Protests and rallies have increased in both number and scope in the west as Left-wing groups; in cooperation with anti-nuclear groups actively seek to restrict both NATO and USA. USA under the leadership of Ronald Reagan, a long-time advocate of rollback, has taken a more aggressive approach to dealings with the Soviets and believes that détente is misguided and peaceful coexistence. NATO as well as USA have raised their military alert levels in response to a much more belligerent Soviet, and increases in Soviet military activity. However despite effort then the balance of power is still very much in favor of the Warsaw Pact. In the last weeks numerous sources have confirmed that Warsaw Pact forces are conducting wide-scale exercises and signal traffic has reached a fever-pitch. As a consequence of this NATO has recalled reserves and placed their forces on full military alert. The same has been done in the Neutral Countries in Europe. It would seem that this has not been sufficient to deter what everybody in the west has feared for decades: Yesterday Warsaw Pact forces attacked at several places, primarily and initially against West Germany. NATO has evoked Article V, and thus is now formally at War. World War 3 has started, and the hammer has already struck hard. North of Regensburg in Southern Germany, a German unit PZG BTN 104 (Mixed), has been deployed. Its mission is similar to many of the others along the long front: fight a delaying battle and hold the attackers as long as possible to enable reinforcements to arrive and consolidate. A full Reforger operation is starting up, but time is critical. And so is not getting tied up in a static defense, every man and vehicle counts, because the battle will not be over anytime soon. The units to the north and south are under heavy attack and are forced back, and the BG is thus forced to defend on three sides as they fight their way back. Initial Briefing (Final will arrive no later then saturday 23rd of DEC) SITUATION Enemy 1. Panzer Grenadier Division (DDR) is attacking our BDE. We have identified armor formations with T72 and T55 tanks along with a variety of mixed BMP and BTR. These units is consistent with a reinforced PzG Division. Enemy units is heavily supported by the division and will have mine clearence and bridging capability. Friendly Our Panzer BTN (Mixed) task is flanksecurity and delay if needed, along Route Yellow, against what has been identified as an ENY Panzer Grenadier Regiment(mixed) with Armor support from their Division. If they can push us towards River Weber then BDE Southern flank will be at risk. Our BTN is split into 2 BG (Tiger and Lion) with our BG delaying along route Yellow and our sister BG along route purple to our South East. Rest of BTN will be held as reserve and supply units will be ready to support against ENY main effort. We have been given additional support from BDE that will aide us along the route until we have reached Oldsdorff. Attachments and Detachments - 1x PLT of HVY Recon along with 1 Section of Luchs has been assigned to each BG. - 1x BTY of M109 with logistic support (You are not allowed to be more than 10km behind you BTN lead units should the need for fire across the BDE arise.) - 1x Biber Section (on Trigger) - Logistic/Aid support from BDE. These are called AidSt.1-3 and will be able to repair or replace any damage within 5 minutes in the zone. (You can only repair when the repair vehicles are both in the zone and BDE will withdraw them as the ENY approaches) Commander’s Evaluation MISSION BG Tiger is to provide flank security along route Yellow and Delay ENY forces advancing along the DOA Yellow. Preserve your combat strenght and DO NOT allow yourself to be tied down in battle. BPT cross to West side of Weber should ENY brake through BDE. Also BPT fall back should our flank be threatened by ENY forces. BDE recon will operate between BTN boundries an provide warning should this happen. EXECUTION a. Purpose. The purpose of this operation is to provide a secure south flank for the BDE to fight a delaying battle towards West, so that follow on Divisional forces can launch a counter attack in favourable terrain. Concept of Operations - Tasks/Missions to Manoeuvre Units 1. Protect BDE south flank 2. Delay and Disrupt ENY movement at DOA Yellow 3. Preserve combat strenght and BPT receive FRAGO from BDE c. End State i. Terrain. ENY delay / halted before HWY 15 ii. Friendly: BDE flanks has been secured. ii. Enemy: ENY units have been delayed / damaged sufficiently for a safe with drawl across Weber or a counter-attack by follow on forces. Tasks/Missions to Combat Support Units 6x Tubes (On screen) (split into 3 plt for 3 fire missions at once) Coordinating Instructions - ADMINISTRATION/LOGISTICS - Support Concept - Material and Services There are 3 forward maintenance and resupply depots 2 setup and manned 1 prepared (Can repair everything) Medical Evacuation and Hospitalisation There are 3 forward maintenance and resupply depots 2 setup and manned 1 prepared (Can repair everything) Personnel - Civil-Military Cooperation Civilian: Minimal collateral damage and disruption to the civilian way of life.
