If you are brand spanking new then happy for you to occupy a junior call sign - but the units all need some people in them otherwise it will be unfair on the OC positions, the two "19s". Lastly a note on callsigns. "19" is One Niner, not Nineteen.

Unless we are overwhelmed with attendess, the Alpha callsign in each Troop will also have a crewable vehicle too (A and C). The Troop Leader will have the Bravo. Lastly a note on callsigns. "29" is Two Niner, not Twentynine.
  3. Rolling Thunder 18 (RT 18) Predator's Gallop - Back story / Format In the early hours of 12 SEP 90, the Range Warden for the northern area of the Department of Defence's Shoalwater Bay Training Area (SWBTA) in Queensland, Australia, whose home is located at PINE MOUNTAIN, heard a lot of tracked vehicle movement down towards the beach at SABINA POINT. He set off to investigate and to read the Riot Act to whoever was down there and obviously had not informed Range Control of their presence, let alone had their booking cleared (if nothing else they were going to disrupt the fishing he had planned for there, later that morning). Within 20 minutes he had rushed back and finally raised the Senior Range Warden at home on the 'phone. The Senior Range Warden wasn't happy to hear the 'phone but he figured it must have been a bushfire or something similar that had broken out in the Northern Area of the Range, after all there were no range bookings and no field activity (Live or Dry) planned until the arrival of elements of 1st Brigade who were trialling the new ASLAV vehicle in a series of tracked Vs wheeled tests being conducted by 2nd Cavalry Regiment. A Squadron, 2 CAV was equipped with the new ASLAV and Bison / ASLAV Type-2 vehicles, while B Squadron, 2 CAV retained the M113 based Light and Medium Reconnaissance Vehicles. A and B Sqn had identical structures, just different vehicles. B Squadron was arriving later that day and later in the week elements of 1st Armoured Regiment (1 AR) and 5th/7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (5/7 RAR) were also due to see if the new fangled wheeled vehicle could work as well with them as the LRVs and MRVs had. This was all he had in his schedule for the next month. The schedule went out the window as the Range Warden, a retired Army Warrant Officer, conveyed in amongst a stream of swear words and phrases not intended for polite company, that an enemy force had come ashore near SABINA POINT and appeared to be consolidating prior to pushing inland to WILLIAMSON AIRFIELD and KAPYONG DZ. When asked if he was sure and just hadn't had a beer before going to bed, the retired Warrant Officer, politely mentioned the "@$#%#%^ great holes" in his Land Rover and drew on his AFV recognition skills to confirm that BRDM-2, PT-76, BTR-60PB and some sort of T-55 variant with additional slab armour (he confirmed fume extractor near the muzzle) were crashing around in the scrub and more appeared to be coming from the LSTs he saw in "The Bay". The Range Warden signed off saying he was grabbing some rations, his Safety Net radio and a few batteries and "going bush". Rolling Thunder 18 - Predator's Gallop has begun ....

You'll note the Alpha call signs in most of the Troops are Scorpions (F8 control only). Unless we are overwhelmed with attendess, the Alpha callsign in each Troop will also have a crewable vehicle too (A and C). The Troop Leader will have the Bravo. These paired vehicles are marked in Purple above. Ideally, we need three humans per five vehicle Troop. If you all pick Black slots, people will be re-assigned to ensure that Red or a Blue ones are filled and then we'll worry about the Black ones. If you are brand spanking new then happy for you to occupy a junior call sign - but the units all need some people in them otherwise it will be unfair on the OC positions "19", "29" and "66B". Lastly a note on callsigns. "19" is One Niner, not Nineteen.
  5. BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front) then background, etc. most readers will already know who BG ANZAC is, but if not feel free to read the entire post. Timings: Thursday evenings, Australian East Coast time. Through a combination of democracy, state's rights and bl**dy mindedness, the country is now fractured into numerous time zones (three wasn't enough) for the next six months and we need to adjust the start time. Next meeting: 0830 GMT on Thursday, March 29th. 0830 in London (GMT / Zulu) 1630 in Perth 1800 in Darwin 1900 in Adelaide 1830 in Brisbane 1930 in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra (my time this week) 2130 NZST in Auckland Your Local time: Local time for your part of the world Count down: Time remaining until Meeting start Mission will start promptly at 0830 GMT. If you want a pre game "chat" then by all means come on line at say 0800 GMT, but so that the Kiwi's aren't after Midnight the Mission will commence promptly at 0830 GMT. In game chat / Communications: You'll need access to "Teamspeak" to communicate with us. This is detailed here: http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbwiki/index.php?title=Starter_Pack Remote Access / Screen Sharing / Whiteboard Sessions: We continue the use of TeamViewer so people without the Steel Beasts software can connect and see and hear what we see and hear (looking over our shoulder if you like). http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx?pid=google.tv.s.au&gclid=CPLOveOGlcECFVgkvQodqk0A4g This maybe a suitable vehicle for people to see what the software is all about (you can even use it on a Mac), without having to invest in even a short time limited copy. Anyway we'll see how it goes. Agenda: In terms of this Thursday night, depends on sign ups but: 1. If we get enough people coming back, perhaps run their solutions to the homework given out previously? 2. Discuss Rolling Thunder 18 - make sure people know what it is and they have put it in their diaries (or signed up). Starts this Saturday night GMT, Sunday morning in AS. 3. Revisiting some "not so easy missions" from the past - probably harder still after 4.023. These need a few people to turn up. 4. Do some "Brilliant at the Basics" work? As always, visitors / first timers / spectators are welcome. Current Standard: 4.023 Please use the new Calendar RSVP function or post here to facilitate planning. 7. BG ANZAC will be running Rolling Thunder (RT'18) this year over the Easter Break (unsure if both the Orthodox and broader Christian dates align this year) As has become traditional, this year is "local" year so its set in Australia. But don't worry, back to Europe in 2019. Sequence: 3 x Missions (each 90 - 120 min long) with "small" 30 min break in between for drinks, loo, etc. Location: Mission location, Shoalwater Bay, QLD, Australia. Timeframe: Early 90s: ASLAV, Leo AS1, M113 Recon, M113 Mech Inf, M60, Cobra, Kiowa vs T-55, T-72, BTR80, BMP2. etc. Participants: AS and USMC against OPFOR Likely time: starting at 1800 GMT Options: a. 1800 GMT Friday 30 March (early Saturday morning in Oz): https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20180330T1800 b. 1800 GMT Saturday 31 March (early Sunday morning in Oz): https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20180331T1800 c. 1800 GMT Sunday 1 April (early Monday morning in Oz): https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20180401T1800 1800 GMT on Easter Monday is not an option as its Tuesday morning (a work day) here in Aust. It will help us with planning if you select the best option for you in the accompanying "poll". Sorry but creating questions appears to be currently broken (I've added a post to the "Forum upgrade thread") so please tell me "a", "b" or "c" in your response below - the poll closes at 2359 31 JAN 18, Australian Eastern Summer Time. If one option is good but another you might do at a pinch (say can attend all 3 missions in "a" but only the last two for "b") I would appreciate it if you could add that to the comments below. Back story, Format, mission outlines, etc. (the usual RT stuff) can be found here:

Last week's Whiteboard / Demo / Tutorial session went well (much less screaming about the #$%#$% AI). Unless demand is high, I think we will limit this to one session in four as it curtails the actual playing component of the night. 2. Ongoing conversation about Rolling Thunder 18 (and an idea for Rolling Thunder 19) - see how the scenario developers are going. 3. Revisiting some "not so easy missions" from the past - probably harder still after 4.023. These need a few people to turn up. 4. Do some "Brilliant at the Basics" work? Perhaps leverage off "1.". Please Note: A plan file that you have built for the original will not work with either of the newer ones, so if you want to use your plan file, we must use the original scenario. Or you can get one of the newer ones and "update" your plan to suit. 2. Do some "Brilliant at the Basics" work? 3. Scope for Q & A / Tutorial / new Features in 4.019 session - again depends on responses and if people come ready to ask questions. For this session I'll be back "on the road" - so I'll need to remote in again. While I will be able to host, being able to effectively play in the 3D world for me will be unlikely. Then for the following three or four weeks, I'll be at Enoggera and I'm uncertain if I can run a session from there (depends on when I'm in the CP). I'll update this once I know what the manning is.
