KANIUM SUNDAY 23rd of June 1800 GMT - OP STRIKEBACK by Nike-Ajax Where: Kanium TS : teamspeak3.i3d.net:10077 World Clock 1800 GMT (Same time as always - now adjusted for European Summer Time: click the time below for your local time) World clock 1800 GMT IMPORTANT NOTICE: This SB session may be recorded with video and sound and uploaded, including to a public youtube channel. Everybody is Welcome: you don't have to belong to Kanium. We love playing with you all, the arranger and CO loves you even more if you sign up in advance Operation Strikeback 7´th of October 2019 SB Mission by Nike-Ajax 0. Background Following years of tensions and proxy wars in the region, combined with support of Terrorists groups from both sides, things have come to a head now. Our opponent - as no one and neiher side officially wants to declare war - have been pressured by their failing economy as well as internal pressure. USA have reluctantly been dragged into this conflict. This is mostly due to the presence of oil and thus even though both USA and EU have tried to become self-reliant on oil since 1973, then they are far from this goal. And ois supply are thsu a strategic goal of the highest order. EU and others have tried diplomacy and talks with little or no effect and success. And diplomacy being what it is, then for better or worse, they are reluctant to support other solutions even though their own does not work. We are thus forced into a number of bad choices and poor options. Of which the politicians have now decided a a short sharp stab is the least bad. So a punitive expedition almost reminiscent of days gone by. This means that this is a POLITICAL as much as a military mission, and thus that everything we do will be measured and weighed. By our opponents and friends as well as UN. I. Situation Time: 0700 Local Time Weather: Ligthly clouded with no chance of rain, 26 degrees Centigrade, no wind and LOS 3500 Meters General We are a TF STRIKEBACK, so a Broadsword being tasked to do the job of a scalpel, but we have our orders, so we make do. We are NOT officially at war, and our mission today is officially considered a "Policing action". A rather hollow and UN-desriptive term which in reality means a punitive expedition against oru NON-enemies. We have been quietly if not clandestinely been landed at our opponents shore in limited numbers and with a narrow focus on our mission. Leading up to this, our opponent have been struck with surgical but limited air attacks, which means that we have Air Superiority locally and that the enemy cant reinforce. More relevantly perhaps, then we have hit the Opponents Oil pipelines, not only hurting their pride and economy. But also forcing them into using Oil Takers to move their primary moneymaker: Their oil. Our goal is therefore to strike and destroy a concentration of the Opponents Tanker trucks. This will serve to hurt not only their military but equally their oil based economy. We have been given the best equipment and ammunition available in theater, but that is about the only advantages we have. Even though the opponent cant reinforce, then they already have strong forces in theater, most ominously perhaps a large number of ATGM´s including the opponents copies of the Milan and TOW missiles. As our goal is to strike and then exfiltrate and not to hold any Object or area, our equipment reflects this. We go in fast, hard and with violence of action it is hoped we will overcome the advantage eth Opponent holds. Terrain: Mixture of closed and open, with channelling and blocking terrain features, making it defensible, paticularly with the number of Opponents ATGM teams. Obstacles: NO Minefields, prepared defences or entrechments. Current Situation. The Enemy is on the DEFENCE with superior numbers, but we have the better equipment and to some degree the element of tactical surprise and they have not had the time to entrench. Our Taskforce (TF) STRIKEBACK, have been tasked with this mission, allthough fewer then we are better in eqipment, ordnance and training. We are on our Opponents soil, and must expect a fair number of civilians in the AO - and the international community and our own country is watching. Therefore, you are tasked to avoid civilian casualties unless it DIRECTLY and CLEARLY endanger your command or overall goals. FIRES in the Urban areas are only authorised by TF COMD, and is FORBIDDEN under ANY circumstances in the indicated Artillery NO Fire Zone (reference Map trace). Enemy Forces Strength: ENY Combined Bn(+). Equipment: At least three (3) full combined and reinforced Companies with M60A3, Chieftain Mk. 5, BMP-2´s, locally produced AFV´s (Represented by M113AS4´s) and ATGM Teams including the equivalent of TOWs and Milan´s and with additional support and recon troops (From INTEL likely Scorpions and Technicals). Likely also a screening forces SE of the Enemy HQ with M60s and otherwise same composition as above, estimated as at least COY+ strength, and deployed in a defensive posture. Quality: likely experienced conscripts and their ammunition the best they can get for their older platforms. MDA: ENY only in HASTY DEFENSE in Main Defensive Areas (MDA), no constructed defences, entrenchments and major obstacles identified or likely, confidence about which is HIGH. Reinforcement: NOT expected from the North nor West as their lines of communication are cut for now. Confidence HIGH. ENY CoA: Likely will initially probe towards our Assault Point with RECON assets and try to hit us with INDIRECT fire missions, but once past that, then they will likely try to lure our forces into an attritional fight where their numerical advantage and number of ATGM teams, and use of terrain, will make up for their relative weakness in equipment. ENY have access to Artillery in substantial numbers, exact units deployed for this operation unknown. Friendly Forces (FF). Local AIR SUPERIORITY achieved temporarily. Flanks. FF SOUTH and EAST to SECURE Flanks, but not to Spt Attack in any way. TF STRIKEBACK: TF in ASSAULT POINT ALHPA consists of 3 x tank platoons of M1A2(SEP) as well as 2 x Cavalry platoon of M3A2 (ODS), there are no reinforcement and no help beyond that. B Coy Dismounted Cavalry troops equipped with 4 x Anti-Tank teams (FGM-148 Javelin). Each Cavalry platoon in B COY thus has 4x Anti-Tank teams but no medic team or LMG, and are all considered Elite. FIRES; 4 x 6 Tubes of 155mm SP howitzers, no FASCAM available (with the howitzers being further back, so off-map) 8 CAS strike missions on call. (As usual: ALL ARTILLERY IS UNDER THE CONTROL OF CO AND FO: So do NOT touch the ARTY controls if you not one of these two). LOGISTICS: In TF STRIKEBACK: Repair Sect, 2 x Supply and 1 x MED Sect. NO Engr, as there are expected no major obstacles in vector of attack. So BYPASS ENY obstacles. Rules of Engagement. NOTHING IN THESE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT LIMITS YOUR RIGHT TO TAKE APPROPIATE ACTION TO DEFEND YOURSELF AND YOUR UNIT. A. You have the right to use force to proactively engage any and all ENY targets of opportunity. B. You are cleared to fire first on all hostile targets or targets with deemed hostile intent, including armed civilians. C. The force should be used under the circumstances and proportional to the threat. D. We are at war. Destruction of civilian property has been cleared by the local authorities ONLY if CO deems that there is a CLEAR military value and goal in said destruction, including FIRES in urban areas. It is however FORBIDDEN to use FIRES under ANY circumstances in the indicated Artillery NO Fire Zone (reference Map trace). E. All Laws of War are to be observed. II. Mission: TF STRIKEBACK is to ATTACK and CONDUCT EXPLOITATION, DESTROYING the ENY between PL ONE and PL TWO as situation demands and by COs judgment, to facilitate ability to DESTROY ENY fuel truck concentration at OBJ OMEGA, IOT disrupt their future operations and achieve political goals. III. Execution Concept of the Operation: Taskforce STRIKEBACK, ATTACK from SOUTHEAST to NORTHWEST; conducting an attack by fire from PL ONE towards PL TWO, and then ASSAULT to DESTROY ENY fuel trucks. Once achieved, CONDUCT HASTY Retreat to ASSAULT POINT ALPHA. This will DISRUPT the ENY and achieve our immediate political goal. Commanders Intent Purpose - The purpose of this operation is to DESTROY the ENY forces in the OBJ OMEGA, then RETREAT, thus weakening the Enemys will to fight and persuading them not to conduct further offensive actions. Key Tasks 1. Attack from PL ONE towards PL TWO to DESTROY the ENY. 2. ASSAULT OBJ OMEGA to DESTROY ENY fueltrucks. 3. Conduct HASTY RETREAT to ASSAULT POINT ALPHA. End State: Friendly. We love playing with you all, the arranger and CO loves you even more if you sign up in advance 11th ACR Mission 1 Delay at Bad Hersfeld V. 2 Excerpts of the battalion commander's orders for... 1) SITUATION: a) Enemy: In the last two hours we have been under heavy attack from 39th Guards Motor Rifle Division. As expected we are being forced back towards Bad Hersfeld and our minefields have been breached north of Bebra. Enemy units have been hit hard by both air attacks and our rotary assets. It is assesed that some units have been pulled out of actions already and second echelon forces have been deployed. Remaining MRR regiments we believe is at less than 75% combat streght left. Enemy appears to have three Course of Actions (COA) and looks to be focusing on two of them. Main effort (COA-1) from Herlefhausen south-west via Highway 4 and the second effort (COA-2) from Lüderbach and Ringbach south-west Highway 27. Both with main objective being Bad Hersfeld. COA-3 appears to be a probe going west/south-west along Landstrasse 3336. Enemy main effort (COA-1) appears to be along Highway 4 with 120th Guards MRR (motor rifle regiment), 117th Guards MRR, leading the way. Backing them up is the 15th Guards Tank Regiment. Enemy secondary effort (COA-2) is via Highway 27 with what we believe is 11th recon battalion leading and with 172nd Guards MRR following close behind. We have reason to believe that 80th Tank regiment is split between COA-1 and COA-2. The 3rd MTR BTN of the 172nd is reported undergoing refueling and rearming and will not be available to support their attack. Enemy is focusing main rotary effort on COA-1. Units identified 39th Helicoptor Squadron has been in action in that area. Enemy air forces is still a threat so air warning: yellow. b) Own: 3/11th is at war. We have been in the fight for several hours now and have giving ground only when forced to. Lima and Mike Troop have been fighting a delay from Lüderbach since this morning with support from 4th Squadron(Air). They are pressed hard and need to resupply and rearm soon. - India Troop (INVADER)(YOU!)(90% strenght)) is setting up for a delay in the valley north of Bad Hersfeld covering COA-2. - Kilo Troop (KILLER )(90% strenght) is setting up in the valley North-East of Bad Hersfeld covering COA-1. - Lima Troop (LEADHORSE) (60% strenght) is going through Bad Hersfeld and heading for the Squadrons Assembly and resupply area. - Mike Troop (MAULER) (50% strenght) is going through Bad Hersfeld and heading for the Squadrons Assembly and resupply area. It is CO 3/11th (BANDIT) intension to fight a delaying action in COA-1 and COA-2 delaying enemy forces for enough time to secure that Lima and Mike troop get the necessary time to rearm and get reinforcements to the area. You will have entire 3/11th artillery assets available (2x4 M109s). 4th Squadron(Air) is resupplying and will have a flight - 2 x AH-64 Apache - ready within 30 minutes to provide support. To our left we have a german Jäger Coy and to the right 1/11th ACR. Entire 11th ACR is heavily engaged and we are awaiting reinforcements to arrive from the rest of V Corps. c) Attachments and detachments: We have been assigned 1 PLT from CSS. 5. KANIUM SUNDAY 18th of Mar 1900 UTC “Wietzendorf” by Kingtiger Where: Kanium TS : teamspeak3.i3d.net:10077 World Clock 1900 UTC Everybody is Welcome you don't have to belong to kanium Kanium attack with 3 tk plt and 2 mech plt plus recce against a small town in uncertain enemy situation during cold war (1989) Weather light rain and 2km LOS. 1) SITUATION: a) Area of Operations 1) Terrain: Forested area with open fields around it, small hills and small lakes crossing the area with a small river going NORTH to SOUTH and cuts through the AO with a mix of different bridges spanning from 10t bridges to 110t bridges. 2) Weather: Around +8 to +9C during the morning with heavy clouds and light rain, later during the morning the temperature are expected to rise to around +15C and clouds cracking up to medium cloud and some sun. LOS are estimated to be around 2km and improving when the rain stops. b) Enemy: 1) Enemy composition has so far been T-72 and BMP-2 with BRDM in recon and Anti-tank role. This mean its vehicles without TIS but with ATGM’s can reach for as long a they can see. 2) Most likely COA is that they are resting and refueling in WIETZENDORF and will attack EAST as soon as they are ready. Most dangerous COA is that the enemy initates the attack west before we manage to destroy them. c) Own: Our Brigade has been in heavy contacted this week and has been withdrawn to Division reserve to recover and regain strength for further operations. Our battalion's losses has been fairly light with only 15-20% losses and therefore we have the priority tasking of Division reserve. A small KampfGruppe (Combat team) has been pulled together for this mission but did not have time to fuel and bomb up so we are lacking on both ammo, fuel, food and water, which logistics will have to fix to us later on. The infantry battalion (On map Juliet and Kilo COY with Lima COY eliminated around WIETZENDORF) have sealed of NORTH and SOUTH of WIETZENDORF and will take over the frontline once WIETZENDORF are taken. Right now Juliett COY are holding SUROIDE area and blocking to the EAST and SOUTH where they have destroyed a BRDM in the minefield. They have put out a hasty minefield on the road leading to WIETZENDORF and marked it with mine warning signs on friendly side of it. Kilo COY down to 2 platoons are holding south of WIETZENDORF around MARBOSTEL and have not been in any contact last 12 hours. Friendly (AI) recon (R2) are positioned to observe roads leading EAST of WIETZENDORF and have not spotted anything since they arrived 6 hours ago. Both companies have been under sporadic artillery fire so the enemy know their location. TOE Kampfgruppe: HQ: CO,XO and 1 FO (leo2A4) 3 x 3 Tank platoons (Leo2a4) 1 CSS platoon of 1 ARV and 1 MED 2 x 3 Mech Platoons (Marder 1A3) 2 x 2 Recon troops (Luchs 2A2) 1 x 4 CSS Platoon (2 Ammo and 2 MED trucks) 2 x 3 155 Battery with HE, SMK and ICM (off map) 2) MISSION: Attack to destroy enemy forces in WIETZENDORF. 3) EXECUTION: Concept of the Operation: Attack along ROUTE BERLIN to destroy enemy forces in WIETZENDORF. Thereafter, defend REDDINGEN until Infantry forces can relieve you in place. Commanders intent: Purpose. The purpose of this operation is to destroy the enemy capability to attack further WEST and to close the gap in the frontline EAST of WIETZENDORF. Key tasks: 1) Attack along ROUTE BERLIN 2) Destroy enemy forces in WIETZENDORF 3) Establish defensive positions around REDDINGEN, oriented East 4) BPT conduct a relief of defensive positions with follow-on forces End state Terrain: REDDINGEN is defended by friendly forces Enemy: Enemy forces in WIETZENDORF are destroyed Friendly: Task Force has sustained no more than 50% losses, and is ready for follow-on operations 4) SUSTAINMENT: a) Medical Tank Company have 1 APC ambulance, after that the Kampfgruppe have 2 ambulance trucks, and if worse come to worse we can move to J COY's aid station. EPOW are handled per SOP. b) Logistics Kampfgruppe never had time to refuel/restock ammo so 2 ammo trucks from Battalion CSS has been attached to bomb up when there is time for it. Fuel is not available at this time and will be brought up when its available together with food and water. The tank Coy have done a crossloading between tanks so all tanks average 20 APFSDS and 6 HEAT at the moment. 5) COMMAND AND SIGNALS: Per Kanium SOP: CO = 66 XO = 65 P = Indirect fire/FO A1,A2 etc. In platoon A11 Plt leader, A12 wingman, A14 Plt Sgt. A = Tanks B = Mech R = Recon H = Logistics 6) SCENARIO DETAILS: a) Priority TRP: there are 5 of them that can be moved during planning phase, once game started it's to late. 9. Kanium Sunday 17th of Sep 1800 UTC "Operation Gauntlet" by Swordsmandk Where: Kanium TS : teamspeak3.i3d.net:10077 World Clock 1800 UTC Everybody is velcome , though we recommend that new players contact Major Duck, Swordsmandk to get an intro to our use of TS and get setup and get a small get familiar session sometime before the scen as it can be a very very steep learning curve to play multiplayer compared to single player. Its our experience that most new players hang around much longer with that approach and most learn something new that way. We have no requirement for participants to be a member of our VU(Virtual Unit) and you can be a member of other VU's and still play with us or to participate on any number of games etc..., we have a rule that says that your only velcome when you want to play and remember family is more important then the game. 1) SITUATION: a) Enemy: ENY attack in direction of the BERG RAILYARD has been slowed and ENY losses are high. We estimate ENY will attempt a flaking move south along R375 to turn our flank. An ENY mixed BTN of T80, BMP2, Hinds and possible older equipment has been sigthed heading along that road. ENY will be supported by heavy artillery and electronic warfare units with jamming equipment. b) Own: Most of our defence have been focused on holding Berg Railyard. To the south along R375 we have TNK COY (-) with mech support to delay ENY advance towards MORSHYTTAN and the ROAD JUNCTION just north of it. We have more reinforcements comming in from the south but they will have to pass through the junction and MORSHYTTAN to be able to support our defence in the area. We have been unable to reach higher command due to HEAVY radio jamming, so essentially it is up to you as COY CO to delay ENY advance on MORSHYTTAN for at least 1,5-2 hours. Delay ENY advance while keeping casulties low. c) Attachments and detachments: - 2 x TNK PLTS STRV 122 + 2x CO/XO TNK (Reserve PLT can be called in from MORSHYTTAN only if 50% tnk Casualties have occured) - 1 x MECH PLT CV9040B with NLAWs and GUSTAVS - 1x RECON PLT CV9040B with GUSTAVS - 1x CSS PLT - 2x OFF MAP BTY 155 - 1x UAV - Engineer assets for pre planned obstacles + 1 PLT ENG with M136 AT + 1 Biber 2) MISSION: 1) Delay ENY advance on MORSHYTTAN and ROAD JUNCTION for at least 1H30M - 2H 2) Minimize Casualties and conduct mobile warfare when possible 3) Protect UAV (Keep it at range from ENY since its the only one you have) ROE: 1) Only recon units is allowed to deploy north of 48 2) NO artillery strikes north of FLOT is allowed 3) Game will end if either CO or GM ends it due to losses or capture of objective 3) EXECUTION: [Finally: The player's mission] SIGNAL: COY: 26000 A1 PLT: 46000 A2 PLT: 31000 A3 PLT: 33500 Note: This will be a multi crewing scen so find a partner to dance with
