SITUATION Time 0700 Local Time Weather Clear Skies with no chance of rain, 15 degrees Centigrade and LOS 3 Km General An enemy battalion is set in a defense in depth within this sector. Enemy Forces. Enemy Forces have a Battalion of combat power defending the area, The enemy battalion is composed of 4x armored companies, consisting of 3x Tank platoons supported by 1x mechanized infantry platoon. The enemy battalion also has organic fire support assets (152mm artillery), and engineer assets that will support fighting positions as well as the emplacement of minefields. Friendly Forces. We have friendly forces to our EAST and WEST that will push forward and support our attack. Do not cross the COY GP boundaries reference Map trace, to avoid risk of Friendly Fire. Our COY GP consists of 4x tank platoons as well as 2x mechanized infantry platoon, along with a PLT of Centauros and a PLT of NZLAV in tactical reserve. This consists of a Swedish Company (Bravo COY) of 2 x PLT of STRV 122 and 2 PLT of CV9040-B, reinforced by 2 x PLT M1A2 (SEP) (Alpha COY). One PLT of CV90/40-B have been detached from Bravo COY to ALPHA COY. We have been augmented with 2 x 4 tubes of 155mm howitzers (with the howitzers being further back, so off-map), as well as support assets from Hotel Company (repair/rearm, and medical). Our dismount infantry is equipped with light machine guns (FN MAGs) and Anti-Tank teams ( 2 x Spike & 2 x CG). Each platoon thus has 4x LMG teams and 4x Anti-Tank teams plus a medicteam. II. MISSION Attack to clear OBJ TRENTON, in order to pass follow-on forces III. EXECUTION Concept of the Operation Alpha Company and Bravo Company with tactical reserves will clear ENY armor and mechanized infantry from OBJ Trenton; this will enable the the Brigade Combat Team to continue to expand and consolidate. COY GP will attack from the South and towards NORTHWEST, setting an attack by fire from LD, and use own assets to clear OBJ TRENTON. We love playing with you all, the arranger and CO loves you even more if you sign up in advance Operation Hammerblow 08 AUG 2020 Story: Follow-up to OP Sledgehammer SB Mission by Nike-Ajax, briefing adapted from Apocalypse Background Peace creating forces from the Coalition have subdued the Island of Kavgos, with very few casualties on the side of the Peace Creating Forces. It was hoped that this would be enough to create stability and allow the coalition to withdraw without further bloodshed. This naturally were a political illusion, much in the way of many of the previous peace keeping and peace creating efforts of the 20th and 21st century, both in and outside of UN resolutions. In fact while very successful, then in this case it did not create the political change that happened after Argentina soundly lost the Falklands war. The politicians somehow forgot that Turkey was economically and politically much stronger. And that Turkey in fact was backed by Russia among others. And also that their armed forces of the Peace Creating Coalition were stretched beyond thin, after years of neglect and cost savings. And above all that they did not project the political Iron will, resolve and strength, that Margaret Thatcher did. Thus the Turkish and Russian analysis was that this was a feeble swing in the air, made by a mostly impotent and weak giant, a one-off where they got lucky. Despite the tragic and sizeable losses, then from a cynical and practical standpoint the Turkish losses were limited. In following that chain of thought the Turkish and Russian came to the conclusion that the best way of tackling and challenging the weak political leadership of the west, was to go on the offensive. Specifically then Turkey have brought up their readiness across the board. And more importantly invaded another and much bigger Island in the Aegean as a direct challenge to the coalition. NATO, EU and the UN for whatever worth the latter is, have tried desperately to contain and deescalate the situation without any real progress. And yet the parties were close to at least meet in the same room - that is until SAS flight SK 3179 was shot down in the Aegean. It is hard to find out why or exactly how it happened, but what is know is that it was shot down by Turkish and possibly Russian manned Surface-to-air missiles. The airplane had tried to use a flight route that took it outside the contested areas, but the fact is that European airways are congested, so it was at its outer limit of the flightpath. The turkish government claims that it had "the characteristics and vector" of a hostile plane, which international experts have contested. In a most unlucky turn of events, then the plane held passengers of all the nationalities that were involved in the actions in the Aegean. This has helped stiffen the resolve of the politicians in the coalition countries. Mostly because rather large numbers of their voters are screaming for retribution. In a political wording then "while we keep all options on the table, then the environment and context makes a political settlement in the present climate very challenging". So while the politicians still try to talk, the military is getting ready to act. It is the hope that freeing this island and inflicting another heavy blow, will force Turkey and by extension Russia to the conference table for a peaceful solution to the overall conflict. In the meantime the Turkish Land Forces have expelled all the Greek inhabitants of the Island, which simplifies our military mission, while it makes the political solution even harder. I. Situation Time 0530 Local Time Weather Clear Skies with no chance of rain, 29 degrees Centigrade and LOS 4 Km General. The remnants of Taskforce Saber have been reintegrated and replenished and partially joined with another group to create the Swedish COY GP Broadsword. The Peace Creation Coalition have landed several combined combat teams with tanks and infantry, supported by UAVs, and direct-support artillery, including COY GP Broadswoard. Meanwhile, other units are offshore with 6th Fleet, preparing for additional landings in other parts of the island against the Turkish Land Forces elsewhere on the island. We have local air superiority, but having lost a helicopter from direct fire in the last operation, are limited to strike planes. Enemy Forces. Turkish Land Forces have roughly a Battalion (-) of combat power defending the area, with at least two tank companies (Leopard 2A4) and one company of mixed mechanized and motorized infantry (Turkish IFV´s are represented with Ulans and Turkish Recon vehicles with VEC-M1´s). These are augmented with dismounted ENY infantry, that are expected to have access to MILANs that are locally produced under licence by ROCKETSAN and M72A4´s that are produced under licence by MKEK, as well as BGM-71 TOWs. As the ENY have had little time to prepare, then we do not expect major Obstacles or minefields, but confidence about that is medium to low. However given the previous encounter then we do expect them to be entrenched and in a combat stance. From SIGINT we know that the ENY have access to Artillery in substantial but unknow amounts. Friendly Forces. We have US and Italian forces to our EAST and WEST that will push forward and support our attack. Rules of Engagement. NOTHING IN THESE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT LIMITS YOUR RIGHT TO TAKE APPROPIATE ACTION TO DEFEND YOURSELF AND YOUR UNIT. A. You have the right to use force to proactively engage any and all ENY targets of opportunity. B. You are cleared to fire first on all hostile targets or targets with deemed hostile intent, including armed civilians. C. The force should be used under the circumstances and proportional to the threat. D. We are de Facto at war. Destruction of civilian property has been cleared by the Greek authorities if CO deems that there is a military value and goal in said destruction, including FIRES in urban areas. E. All Laws of War are to be observed. II. Mission COY GP Broadsword attacks to destroy Turkish defenders between PL ACHILLEUS and PL HECTOR to expand the NATO beach head and allow friendly forces to continue offensive operations across the island. III. Execution Concept of the Operation Alpha Company reinforced by 2 PLTs from Bravo Company and 1 PLT from the Italian contingent, will continue to expand the beachhead and clear Turkish armor and mechanized infantry from OBJ NIKE and OBJ AJAX; this will create a sizeable security area surrounding the beach head and enable the the Brigade Combat Team to continue to generate combat power. COY GP Broadswoard will attack from the North and towards SOUTHEAST, setting an attack by fire from PL ACHILLEOUS, and use own assets to clear OBJ NIKE and AJAX. Additionally they have allocated Six 120 mm M1064 for use, with integral ammo supply truck. Situation For years there have been tensions between Greece and Turkey, but the tensions have always been suppressed and glossed over by NATO and to a lesser degree by the EU for strategic, political and economic reasons. But that does not mean that the Greeks have ever forgiven The Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, and the two countries have routinely had skirmishes and clashes on and over the Aegean sea. NATO has similarly routinely turned a blind eye to Turkish repression of Kurds and the Armenian Genocide, and EU has done the same in the vain hope that the European popular votes would allow an integration of Turkey into EU. This has never materialized, and in anger and frustration Turkey has increasingly turned to Russia for aid and strength. Despite a few clashes , including shooting down of each others combat aircraft, then these ties have grown stronger and more firm recently. Primarily because both countries benefits from it. As the Syrian Civil war wound down, the Turkish military increased the pressure and attacks on the Kurdish positions in the north of Syria and South East Turkey with mixed results militarily. These operations combined with the continued crackdown on all dissent internally, has had the political outcome that both NATO and EU found it neccesary to distance themselves from Turkey who became more isolated. This in turn increased the ties with Russia and alienated Turkey even more from Europe. Finally Turkey three months ago took the step of formally leaving NATO and the day after signed a document of peace, cooperation and defence with Russia. In the time since that, then tensions that were previously held back and subdued, have now increased again. Internal dissent while repressed, have in the meantime increased in Turkey. In a move that somewhat brings memories of the Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands, Turkey decided to invade one of the islands that have been disputed for years. In part to assert their dominance of the eastern Aegean, and in part probably to create internal cohesion against a common enemy. It is rumored that the Russian have been promised by Turkey, the rights to build a naval- and airbase on the island in exchange for continued material and political support. The invasion was largely unopposed and the Turkish forces quickly seized the Island with the use of heavy bombardements from the air and sea. In an unforseen and tragic event, a strike mission hit the wrong target and struck a holiday resort where 6 Swedish and Italian high school classes were on a vacation and study tour, with numerous casualties and wounded. Sweden and Italy are enraged and demanded immediate access to provide aid and help to their citizens, which in the general turmoil was denied. It was thus unknown how many of the Swedish and Italian youths are still alive and in what condition they are in. Russia supported by China have used their Veto´s to block all attempts of condemning Turkey, let alone create a UN led intervention. Turkey have declared that they provided all the care they could for the wounded and have since released the bodies of the deceased and many wounded. But as Turkey still refuse any international observers on the Island, it is unknow if all Swedish and Italian citizens have been released. Greece have in the meanwhile invoked Article 5 of the NATO charter, but NATO has been reluctant to directly declare war on Turkey for a number of reasons. And Sweden - not being a member of NATO - have thus seeked other bilateral solutions in cooperation with Italy who is a member of NATO. This have now coalesced into a Peace Creating force, which are going to strike the Island in the next hours, led by American forces and with small Italian and Swedish contingents. USA along with the rest of NATO have declared an exclusion zone around the area in an effort to contain the conflict and deny Turkey more reinforcements. The Turkish have erected two barriers across the islands, but these are more for controlling the area and anti-COIN, than any real obstacle, and should be passable with care by all the TF´s Callsigns. In preparation of the landings American, Italian and Swedish planes, including from the US 6th Fleet, have struck the areas around LZ Dragon and LZ Gorilla, which means that there is a high confidence that the initial landing operation will be unopposed. At any rate then the Coalition forces hold Air Control and thus dominate the Airspace around the Island. The air units have destroyed a number of Turkish units, estimated at TNK COY size, the hulks of which now litter the areas between the Landing Zones and the FLET as indicated per map trace, where SIGINT estimates that the ENY have withdrawn to. We still expect the Turks to have around BTN sized assets remaining in the AO including TNK, ATGM and IFV, as well as a limited number of SP ARTY. Expect heavy resistance, the Turkish soldiers are veterans and have their backs against the sea. II. Mission Task Force Saber will attack to seize the capitol city of Kavgos to restore national integrity and stability. III. Execution Concept of the Operation Units from Task Force Saber will deploy from offshore vessels in the 6th Fleet AOR then fight to seize the island-capitol of Kavgos Commanders Intent Purpose: The purpose of this operation is to defeat the Turkish invaders and restore territorial integrity to the island. NATO forces begin their invasion of Altis with initial landings by 1st Battalion, 7th Brigade, 111th Infantry Division. 1st Battalion will land two combat teams with tanks and infantry, supported by attack aviation, UAS, and direct-support artillery. Meanwhile, remnants of 7th Brigade and the 21st Brigade are both offshore with 6th Fleet, preparing for additional landings in eastern Altis against Altis Armed Forces (AAF). Enemy Forces. Altis Armed Forces (AAF) has roughly a Battalion of combat power defending the area, with at least one tank company (MBT-52 "Kuma" Leopard 2A4 Export), one company of mixed mechanized and motorized infantry (AFV-4 "Gorgon" - an 8-wheeled vehicle with a 25mm chaingun, and the FV-720 "Mora", a tracked IFV with a 30mm cannon), and one Reconnaissance Company with several mixed platoons of light armor (AWC-304 "Nyx" - a light tracked vehicle similar to the British Scimitar, and track-mounted TOW vehicles), supported by 81mm dismounted mortar teams as well as short range air defense systems (ZSU-23-4). Dismounted infantry organized as 2x LMG and 2x Anti-Tank teams per platoon and are equipped with light machine guns and RPG-32s - a light guided missile that is both limited in range (1500m) and penetration (much like an updated M47 Dragon) Friendly Forces. Our Combat Team consists of 2x tank platoons as well as 1x mechanized infantry platoon; our Rhino MGS platoon is currently detached, providing security at the landing site, but will arrive in roughly 30 minutes. Sometime in the not too distant future SITUATION: Our weakly defended front here has received a strong blow from the enemies and the defences at MALMBY couldn't hold. The Mech Coy (-) there took heavy casualties and started withdrawing an hour ago. The enemy force attacking them was equipped with T-72B1 and BMP-2 AFVs, consisting mainly of Mech Inf. The remaining units are moving through your positions in a few minutes and pass some info about the enemy if they can! MISSION: Alpha company (YOU!) will conduct a counterattack in this sector along ROUTE CHARLIE, clear the route and push the enemy from MALMBY and take and HOLD the bridges at C10. After the bridges are secured we can move in more homeguard forces to stabilize this front and enable relocating your Alpha company and remains of Bravo company to more important sector. SUPPORT: Your Alpha Coy has 2 x 6 tubes 155mm Howitzers for support (HE, SMOKE, ICM). OTHER: The delaying unit laid a hasty minefield at MALMBY but they reported enemies breaching the minefield just before the visual was lost to the area. So the minefield is most likely breached...
