  1. Kanium Sunday 24th of September OPS Winter Storm PART 3 by Nike-Ajax, in honor of SwordsmanDK I decided to make a last scenario in the unfinished campaign, so the end to the last two Sundays sessions and Scenarios. I hope I do his work at least some justice. Where: Kanium TS : ts3.din-server.dk:10000 World Clock 1800 GMT (Same time as always in Europe - now adjusted for Summer Time: click the time below for your local time) World clock 1800 GMT IMPORTANT NOTICE: This SB session may be recorded with video and sound and uploaded, including to a public youtube channel. AS always, then we are running the session with the latest version of Steelbeasts. Everybody is Welcome: you don't have to belong to Kanium. We love playing with you all, the arranger and CO loves you even more if you sign up in advance 😁 Ops: Winter Storm - Mission 3 of 3 - COUNTERATTACK by Nike-Ajax 1. SITUATION a. Enemy. Remaining Motor Rifle BDE from the 9th Brigade have consolidated their gains and taken up hasty defence to our EAST. Eny BDE has managed despite again taking almost impossibly heavy casualties, to secure the area to the EAST of OBJ SISU. In this position they still threaten our Air base to the north. We belive that they, if given time will consolidate and reinforce and push West and North both threatening our Airbase as well as our HQ to the West. They as a consequeence of the heavy losses we have inflicted in the last two battles, still held back in the Hunttula Forrest by Jaegers from F COy with heavy arty support and using minefields. We estimate that the ENY BTG to our East have been replenished to full strength, using the last reserves of the reinforced BDE. Drones and satelite intel confirms thats NO fresh units are on their way beyond that. The ENY in other words have no more reinforcements in this sector. Moreover it seems that the ENY overall command have been somewhat paralyzed due to the heavy losses they have incurred in such short time, so in total it is expected that the ENY will NOT attack until they have been reinforced, which means that they also tactically are inactive for now. Special forces are still in place to our EAST and report that ENY has reinforced and consolidated their HQ in ZZ1 with a large number of supply and command vehicles. We have heard unconfirmed rumours that they have taken civilian hostages at the ENY HQ to ensure we do not strike them with INDIRECT. MCOA for the ENY appears to defend in place awaiting replacements and reinforcements, in HASTY defence. But still with a risk of localized counterattacks. Our Recon seemed to indicate ENY Engineers working to the NORTH of OBJ SISU, thus indicating a risk of surface laid minefields there. But otherwise they have not had time to dig in yet. Intel confirms they are composed of T-72B3 tanks and BMP-2/BTR-82 mixed. They are supported by BDE assets, including strong AA of which some are SA19. So much like the forces you have already met and destroyed. ENY have taken up a Defensive position along the FLET, in preparation for the reinforcement that they somehow hope will arrive. Strong ENY Artillery expected in the AO. Air Warning Red !!! b. Friendly. Our Mechanized Battlegroup is to ATTACK and DESTROY ENY HQ, and in the process continue to attrit ENY BTG. Additional reserves are ready to our WEST (2 x TNK (LEO2A4) and 1x Mech plt). - B TNK COY (100%strength), 3 x PLT plus CMD - D COY (Mech) (100% strength), 3 x PLT plus CMD, Spike+NLAW combo (only small drones for inf PLTs) - Papa units - 2 x Romeo Section (2 x Recon BMP-2) - ECHO units (6 x Biber) - Hotel Units (AD, CSS, 1 UAV active, 1 UAV in reserve (on trigger) and HQ) - 1 x PLT MECHINF from F COY to the West (on trigger) - 2 x PLT TNK Leopard 2A4 from G COY to the West (on trigger). - Your indirect package have been upgraded 2. MISSION BG will COUNTERATTACK EAST to DESTROY the ENY HQ and supply centre. 3. EXECUTION a. Purpose. The purpose of this operation is to DESTROY the ENY, thus removing the options for further advance as well as securing the Airfield to our North, as well as opening for the possibility of a total ENY collapse in this sector. Avoid decisive losses, BUT this is a high priority mission and HQ are willing to incur losses if it can not be avoided to reach the goals. b. Key Tasks 1. Attack from West to EAST, destroying the ENY as you progress, and CLEARING the ENY HQ and supply node. 2. Protect your flanks as you push East, but you do NOT need to clear the AO of every ENY unit. 3. Do NOT get fixed 4. Use bibers to make bridge crossings as needed 5. A full Counterattack have been authorized by COs command and judgement, but do not risk the integrity of his command or the other tasks. c. End State Key task completed. ENY HQ and supply node destroyed. Own forces able to execute follow-up attacks to clear the entire AO to the East. d. Fires 1x AMOS PLT 2 x 3 tubes (with limited STRIX) 2 x BTY 4 x 3 tubes K1 Thunder 155mm 1 x 2 MLRS (NO reloads) >>>NOTES:<<<< 1. Your artillery can be killed! 3. You can NOT strike the ENY HQ with indirect - because there is a risk of friendly hostages. You MUST get eyes on first with OWN units - UAV is not enough. 4. STRIX are only to be used for verified targets! 5. BMS is on reflecting on modern units and BMS systems 7. Drones can be used in the entire AO. 8. Be careful of ENY AA - indicated range is a guesstimate and will change when and if ENY pushes AA assets forward. 9. OBSERVE: Bridges marked B1 and B2 are INTACT, due to the fact that the CO of the last engagement kept his composure and did NOT give the order to detonate. All other bridges are expected to be down to the East. (game techical: they will explode at the beginning to simulate already having been blown) Test scenario (To verify that everything works at your end and Map Recce): Winter_Storm_Mission_Three TEST.sce IMPORTANT: THIS is the map for the scenario for Sunday: Kouvostoliitto Finland 50x50km.zip

Motor Rifle BDE from the 9th Brigade is attacking along highway 34 towards our Airfield. Eny BDE has managed despite taking heavy casualties to secure highway junctions. We belive they will use H39 and H55 to rapidly move rear echelon units to the front. They have been held up in the Hunttula Forrest by Jaegers from F COy with heavy arty support and using minefields. We estimate that the leading ENY BTG have been replenished to full strength - draining reserves that the ENY cant keep up. Drones and satelite intel confirms fresh units moving on the highways despite heavy artillery from our long range guns. Special forces are still in place to our EAST and report that ENY has setup HQ in ZZ1. B3 bridge has been seized by ENY and MCOA for the ENY Mech BTN appears initially to be direction Haukjärvi. MCOA for the TNK BTN appears to be the better ground south of the airport, to bypass and flank to seize the airport, so direction OBJ SISU. Intel confirms they are composed of T-72B3 tanks and BMP-2/BTR-82 mixed. They are supported by BDE assets, including strong AA of which some are SA19 and expected to be pushed forward with the attack. ENY have taken up a strong defensive position along the FLET, in preparation for their attacking forces. Strong ENY Artillery expected in the AO. Air Warning Red !!! b. Friendly. Our Mechanized Battlegroup is to delay and attrit ENY BTG. Additional reserves can be called in from the North (1x Mech plt) and West (1 x TNK Plt Leopard 2A4). - A TNK COY (100%strength)(NOTE this has been reinfoced due to losses previous mission) - A1 (100%)(Have finished repairs and refueling at BTN CSS) - A2 (100%)(Ammo yellow)(Fuel ~50%) - A3 (100%)(Ammo yellow)(Fuel ~60%) - 2x PLTs from D COY (Mech) is at 100% strenght), Spike+NLAW combo (only small drones for inf PLTs) - Papa units - Romeo Section (2 x Recon BMP-2) - ECHO units (Biber 1 and Biber 2) - Hotel Units (AD, CSS and HQ) - 1 x PLT MECHINF from D COY to the NORTH if needed (on trigger), these MUST be pulled South to OWN AO immediately if activated ! - 1 x PLT TNK Leopard 2A4 from C COY (on trigger). 2. MISSION BG will continue to delay and weaken ENY forces advancing towards Airport. BDE command is willing to temporarily abandon airfield IOT sustain combat effectiveness of our group, and to meet main ENY effort. 3. EXECUTION a. Purpose. The purpose of this operation is to DELAY the ENY advance further and inflict losses to the ENY BTG. Prevent deceisive losses and DO NOT get fixed in place. b. Key Tasks 1. Delay along ENY MCOA-2 with armored units OR per COs plan. 2. Delay along ENY MCOA-1 with Mech units OR per COs plan 3. Do NOT get fixed 4.a Destroy B1 and B2 when withdrawing WEST 4.b Use bibers to secure bridge crossing if bridges are destroyed 5. Withdraw WEST of airport rather than be destoyed. 6. ENY Motor Rifle BDE from the 9th Brigade is attacking along highway 34 towards our Airfield with a reinforced Battalion Tactical Group ( BTG+ ). They have succesfully conducted a border crossing to our EAST and are advancing towards our positions. ENY main effort is located along H34 IOT seize airfield. We estimate the BTG are at 95% strength and have reason to believe they are supported by additional specilized elements (drone, AA, recon and eng assets). Special forces to our EAST report that ENY is advancing WEST to secure H34 and possibly setup control points on crossroads. Intel confirms they are composed of T-72B3 tanks and BMP-2/BTR-82 mixed. They are supported by BDE assets. AD sectors have been marked on map - be careful, they are best estimate AND the ENY is advancing with organic AA assets. b. Friendly. We love playing with you all, the arranger and CO loves you even more if you sign up in advance MAPS AND ORDERS UPDATED BY LATEST INTEL: The Last Spartans Version 2020 Operation The Last of the Spartans - 6´th of June 2021 SB Mission by Nike-Ajax IMPORTANT NOTE: CO must place Fighting positions/Emplacements as part of his plans to ensure integrity and functionality of the Scenario !!! Scenario note: For a number of reasons, then there are different vehicles in the defence and attack phases. One of which is to avoid confusion and blue-on.blue with Leopards in on both sides in the attacking phase. CO will allocate callsigns in B COY, once they are released and he judges the time to be right: then give your A COY callsigns to the CO. 0. Background We are not at the pass of the hot springs. But King Leonidas might well be looking down upon us today, because the not only are the stakes as high as they were at Thermopylae. But our soldiers as fierce and motivated. What started up as another dispute in the beautiful blue waters of the Aegean and made worse by the ongoing migrant and refugee crisis, have turned for the worse. Much worse. In fact one could say that the Aegean runs red now. In the air, on and below the sea is where the fighting started, and have lasted a while now. But last week our foes landed on our soil, and have been reinforcing since. Our scouts and overall intel tells us that they are getting ready to break out. This must not be allowed to happen. If they break through then our families and friends are at their mercy. And equally bad then they will break into the open coastal plains beyond which will favour them and make our defence even more difficult than it already is. Our "Allies" have said many fine words of encourgement, but has yet to send any actual help. Except for the americans who have sent us almost a full Brigades worth of mechanized equipment before the outset of the hostilities from their reserve stock, and the Swedes who sent us some CV90´s from their reserve stock. Equipment that our best troops have trained hard with, and which will be used today. But that is the extent of the help. So we stand alone. Again. But we will win, and we will make the enemy regret invading our nation. To the enemy, when they asked us to surrender our weapons, we only said this: Molon Labe I. Situation Time: 0600 Local Time Weather: Ligthly clouded with no chance of rain, 26 degrees Centigrade, no wind and LOS 3900 Meters General War have been initiated without a real declaration of war from our ENY. But both sides have since claimed Casus Belli Politically. Our strategic objective is to BLOCK the ENY ATTACK into Defence Area SPARTAN with A COY, thus DENY it to the enemy and breaking their momentum. The Enemy is RAPIDLY ADVANCING and will push north with maximum effort (Refrence Map trace). Do NOT push past Line Of Exploitation (LoE) with A COY under ANY circumstance (Reference Map Trace). Once the ENY ATTACK HALTED, forces in SPARTAN (A COY) will CONSOLIDATE and then remain and DEFEND in place. Simultaneous then the forces prepared at Assembly Area MARATHON (B COY) and ONLY them, will COUNTERATTACK along the indicated attack vector from NW towards S (see map trace) and EXPLOIT IOT DESTROY the EN force & SEIZE (if possible) the EN HQ. Forces at MARATHON (B COY) will be released by HQ when the ENY ATTACK has been HALTED, and with a 5 minute Warning. HQ will at this time release other forces which will make a support attack to the WEST of your AO, which will tie up the ENY forces. Do not push past boundaries or risk being attacked from your flanks. Terrain: Mixture of closed and open, with channeling and blocking terrain features particularly to the south and becoming more closed and defensible as you push South and near the Enemy HQ with a number of villages. Obstacles: Minefields (Reference Maptrace) to the South-west and West of Defence Area SPARTAN, created to channel and block the ENY. THIS AREA IS PROHIBITED to all our forces on pain of DEATH. Current Situation. The Enemy is on the OFFENCE with superior numbers, but we have the better positions and to some degree the element of tactical surprise and they have not had the time to entrench. Our Taskforce (TF) SPARTAN, have been tasked with this mission, allthough fewer then we are better. They asked for our weapons, and our answer naturally was: Come and take them... We are on our own soil, and must thus expect a fair number of civilians in the AO - and the international community and our own country is watching. But the political and military stakes are high. Therefore, you are tasked to avoid civilian casualties to the degree that it does not endanger your command or overall goals. FIRES in the Urban areas are only authorised by TF COMD. Enemy Forces Strength: ENY Combined Bn(+). Equipment: At least three (3) full combined and reinforced Companies with M60A3 (in PLTs of 5), a few Leopard 2A4´s (estimated at PLT strength per COY), AIFV´s (in PLTs of 4) (Represented by M113AS4´s), M113G3 TOWs and with additional support and recon troops (From INTEL likely VEC-M1). Likely also a screening forces NV of the Enemy HQ with Leopard 2A4s and otherwise same composition as above, estimated as at least COY+ strength, and deployed in a defensive posture. ENY Artillery expected in SIGNIFICANT volume. Quality: Likely experienced conscripts and their ammunition the best they can get for their older platforms. MDA: ENY only in HASTY DEFENSE in Main Defensive Areas (MDA), no constructed defences, entrenchments and major obstacles identified or likely - aside from the known minefields Southwest of your Defence Area Spartan (Reference Maptrace), confidence about which is HIGH. Reinforcement: NOT expected from the East nor South as their lines of communication are cut for now. Confidence HIGH. ENY CoA: Likely will initially continue their attack in the NORTH, but once their attack is broken, likely try to lure our forces into an attritional fight where their numerical advantage, and use of terrain, will make up for their relative weakness in equipment and training. ENY have access to Artillery in substantial numbers, exact units deployed for this operation unknown. Friendly Forces (FF). Local AIR SUPERIORITY achieved. Flanks. FF North and West to SECURE Flanks, but not to Spt Attack apart from the forces mentioned at Assembly Point MARATHON (B COY). FF WEST will make a supporting attack to tie ENY forces down, and attrit them if possible. TF Spartans: TF in Defence Area SPARTAN (A COY) consists of 3 x tank platoons of LEOPARD 2A6HEL as well as 2 x mechanized infantry platoon of M2A2 (ODS), along with an similar force placed at Assembly Area MARATHON (B COY), but where the tank platoons are composed of M1A2 (SEP) and the MECHINF consists of 2 x CV90/40-B PLT´s. Also there have been allocated a Heavy Weapons platoon armed with BGM-71D TOW-2, consisting of 4 fireteams and 1 FO, to DEFEND Defence Area SPARTAN only. These will support A COY BUT are under direct command of BTN CO. A and B Coy Dismounted infantry equipped with 2 x Anti-Tank teams (FGM-148 Javelin) (Odds callsigns) and 2 x LMG Teams (Even callsigns). Each MECHINF platoon thus has 2x Anti-Tank teams and 2 x LMG Teams, the rest being issued with AT-4s and rifle grenades plus a medic team, and are all considered Elite. B Coy also has 2 Bieber bridging units. FIRES: 3 x 6 Tubes of 155mm SP howitzers, no FASCAM available, but with ICM. (With the howitzers being further back, so off-map) 2 x 6 x 120 mm SP mortars with their own supply trucks in A COY 1 x 6 x 120 mm SP mortars with their own supply trucks in B COY 8 CAS strike missions on call. (As usual: ALL ARTILLERY IS UNDER THE CONTROL OF CO AND FO: So do NOT touch the ARTY controls if you not one of these two). LOGISTICS: In both A COY and B COY: Repair Sect, 2 x Supply and 1 x MED Sect. NO Engr, as there are expected no major obstacles in vector of attack. So BYPASS ENY obstacles. B COY has additionally been allocated 2 (two) bridging units (bieber), for use depending on the CO´s plan. Rules of Engagement. NOTHING IN THESE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT LIMITS YOUR RIGHT TO TAKE APPROPIATE ACTION TO DEFEND YOURSELF AND YOUR UNIT. A. You have the right to use force to proactively engage any and all ENY targets of opportunity. B. You are cleared to fire first on all hostile targets or targets with deemed hostile intent, including armed civilians. C. The force should be used under the circumstances and proportional to the threat. D. We are at war. Destruction of civilian property has been cleared by the local authorities if CO deems that there is a CLEAR military value and goal in said destruction, including FIRES in urban areas. E. All Laws of War are to be observed. II. Mission: TF SPARTAN is to BLOCK ENY attack towards Defence Area Spartan with A COY. Then on orders ATTACK and CONDUCT EXPLOITATION with B COY (and ONLY B COY), DESTROYING the ENY between PL HERCULES and PL ACHILLEOUS, SEIZE ENY HQ, IOT DENY the area to the ENY and disrupt their future operations. We love playing with you all, the arranger and CO loves you even more if you sign up in advance Operation Peacemaker ver. 2020 6´th of July 2021 SB Mission by Nike-Ajax 0. Background For some time now tensions and disputes have been rising in Eastern Europe, fueled by a number of reasons including the perceived lack of understanding for the position and challenges faced internally and externally by the nations on Europe and NATOs Eastern flank. This has lead to internal dissention in the souteastern area, which combined with perceived threats from the East has led them to increase the expenditure on their armed forces. Specifically then one of the countries bought a reinforced Armored/mechanized Battalion´s worth of used but fully serviceable vehicles from Turkey. This includes a number of upgraded M60´s, AIFVs ((represented by M113AS4)), MILAN ATGMs and around 10 to 20 Leopard 2A4´s. In a very disturbing turn of events that no one saw coming, then the reinforced Battalion which received the equipment, have risen against what they termed "national interests" and against "The EU dictatorship". The Local government have tried to contain them with little luck but have managed to establish a heavy belt of obstacles and mines, forcing the Rebels to slow down and try to consolidate in the AO. EU have taken a more political role, or in others word have not done much of anything. The local Government at this time turned to Germany for help at to stop any further disruption and chaos, in the context of EU and Bilateral agreements. Our governemt has reluctantly agreed but at this time we have a very limited force in the AO. It has been decided by the politicians - against the advice of the military - that the time to strike is now as the rebels are mostly contained in one area, even though we are outnumbered. The reason for this is not merely that we have the rebels isolated, but much more importantly that Intel have conclusively stated that the Rebel Commander is present at the forward Eny HQ. Thus our primary mission is a Kill/Capture of the ENY commander. Its is expected that the localized rebellion, will fall apart if the ENY Commander is taken out of the equation. I. Situation Time: 0600 Local Time Weather: Ligthly clouded with no chance of rain, 23 degrees Centigrade and LOS 3600 Meters General No war have been declared. Our strategic objective is to SECURE and HOLD OBJ GRIFFIN for at least 15 minutes, to enable a SOF Detachment from KSK Kommando Spezialkräfte standing by and under Direct Control of the TF HQ to either capture or kill him. The Rebels have surged a limited distance into our AO, then taken up HASTY DEFENSE having lost momentum and initiative. It is likely they are expecting a COUNTER ATTACK. Terrain: Dangerous mixture of closed and open, with channeling and blocking terrain features particularly to the West and South-west with a combination of a hilly and forested terrain. Friendly Air and ARTY have DESTROYED all the bridges and mined the access points to the West from where the Rebels attacked, thus they can not reinforce except with what is in the AO now which in any case is almost everything they have. Obstacles: The Local government has put a strong belt of minefields (Reference Maptrace) and obstacles to the South-west, to channel, block and delay the Rebels. This minefield has now been reinforced by way of FASCAM (No timer on them as these are older generation FASCAM). THESE AREAS ARE PROHIBITED to all our forces on pain of DEATH. This leaves a number of passes and areas where we - hopefully - can channel the enemy into our Engagement areas, while the SOF Detachment find and Inert the Rebel Commander. Current Situation. The Rebels have pushed into the AO, and now quite literally have their backs against the wall. This means that they have occupied the better positions with superior numbers, however they have not had time to entrench nor place additional obstacles. Our Taskforce (TF) PEACEMAKER, as an independent QRF, have been tasked with this mission. You will be outnumbered but not outfought, But dont underestimate the Enemy. We are on Friendly soil, and must thus expect a fair number of civilians in the AO - and the international community is watching. Therefore, you are tasked to avoid civilian casualties to the degree that it does not endanger your command or overall goals. FIRES in the Urban areas are only authorised by TF COMD, and then only if absolutely necessary. Enemy Forces Strength: ENY Combined Bn(+). Equipment: At least two (2) full combined and reinforced Companies with M60A3, AIFV (With M113AS4 used as substitute) and with additional support and recon troops (From INTEL likely VEC-M1). Likely also screening forces around OBJ GRIFFIN as well as the likely presence of a number of ENY ATGM, which can include MILANs, confidence about last HIGH. The ENY have another two full companies in reserve which they will likely push forward in a COUNTERATTACK when we have taken OBJ GRIFFIN. These will likely include a unknown number of Leopard 2A4´s, but otherwise probably have similar composition to the other two COYs. Confidence about that is HIGH. Quality: Likely experienced conscripts and their ammunition the best the Turkish that sold the the vehicles can get. MDA: ENY only in HASTY DEFENSE in Main Defensive Areas (MDA), no constructed defences, entrenchments and major obstacles identified or likely - aside from the known minefields and obstacles in the West of your AO (Reference Maptrace), confidence about which is HIGH. Reinforcement: NOT expected from the North, South or East as their lines of communication are cut for now. They DO have reinforcements to the West Reference Maptrace and per previous. Confidence HIGH. ENY CoA: Likely will not continue their attack, but rather try to lure our forces into an attritional fight where their numerical advantage, and use of terrain, will make up for their weakness in equipment. ENY have access to Artillery in Substantial numbers, exact units deployed for this operation unknown. Friendly Forces (FF). Local AIR SUPERIORITY achieved. Flanks. FF North and East to SECURE Flanks, but not to Spt Attack. TF PEACEMAKER: TF consists of 3 x tank platoons of Leopard 2A6 as well as 2 x mechanized infantry platoon of Marder 1A3 (PLTs of 4), along with a tactical reserve of 1 SEC of Leopard 2A6 (2) and a 1 SEC of Marder 1A3 (2) B Coy Dismounted infantry equipped with 2 x Anti-Tank teams (SPIKE MR) (Odds callsigns) and 2 x LMG Teams (Even callsigns). Each MECHINF platoon in B COY thus has 2x Anti-Tank teams and 2 x LMG Teams, the rest being issued with PzF-3T*s and rifle grenades plus a medic team, and are all considered Elite. The rest of our INF Squads are thus armed to standard, including with PzF-3T*. A team of Friendly SOF under direct control of TF HQ (so not on map), will execute Capture/Kill when OBJ Griffin is Cleared enough to safely execute their misson. FIRES 4 x 6 Tubes of 155mm SP howitzers, no FASCAM available, 1 x 6 x 120 mm SP mortars with their own supply trucks (with the howitzers being further back, so off-map, 8 CAS strike missions on call. For 155 mm: Unlimited HE and SMOKE, but only 30 rounds of ICM per tube due to lack of ICM rounds in general. (As usual: ALL ARTILLERY IS UNDER THE CONTROL OF CO AND FO: so do not touch the ARTY controls if you not one of these two). LOGISTICS: Repair SEC, Fuel SEC, 2 x Supply and 1 x MED SEC. NO Engr, as there are expected no major obstacles in vector of attack. So BYPASS any ENY obstacles. D. We are NOT at war. Destruction of civilian property has been cleared by the local authorities ONLY if CO deems that there is a CLEAR military value and goal in said destruction, including FIRES in urban areas. E. All Laws of War are to be observed. II. Mission: TF PEACEMAKER is to DESTROY ENY between PL PEACE and PL HARMONY as needed iot SEIZE OBJ GRIFFIN & HOLD OBJ for at least Fifteen (15) Minutes, IOT facilitate the Capture/kill of ENY HVT. III. Execution Concept of the Operation: Taskforce PEACEMAKER with 2 SECs TAC RESERVE, ATTACK from NORTHEAST to SOUTHWEST; conducting an attack by fire from PL PEACE towards PL HARMONY, and then ASSAULT to SEIZE OBJ GRIFFIN. Once SECURE, PREPARE HASTY Defence to HOLD Objective until SOF forces confirm Capture/kill: expected duration 15 minutes. This will DEFEAT the ENY and PREVENT further ENY offensive operations, achieving our immediate political goal. Commanders Intent Purpose - The purpose of this operation is to DESTROY the ENY forces in OBJ GRIFFIN, then OCCUPY, thus allowing FRIENDLY SOF forces to execute Capture/kill mission on ENY HVT. Key Tasks 1. Attack from PL PEACE towards PL HARMONY to DESTROY the ENY. 2. Seize and Clear OBJ GRIFFIN. 3. Conduct HASTY DEFENSE ITO DEFEAT ENY Counter Attacks 4. Once Friendly SOF have exectued Capture/kill mission, then execute a HASTY RETREAT to original Deployment Area End State: Friendly. CG27 Innstadt 7th April 2015 0600h Steady rain Vis 25000m 1) SITUATION: a) Enemy: Enemy commanders have selected this rather remote sector to try a secondary push South. Intelligence suggests a Regimental Recon PLT moving ahead of 2x reinforced Tank Coy (T80) with potentially some BMP support. March discipline has been observed as slack so their approach is expected to be less than compact. Unfortunately given the lack of obvious roads the enemy route of advance is uncertain, As well has moving down through the AO enemy are also likely to sweep back through area Northwards to fully sanitise so beware of enemy forces bypasing you. Other scattered Recon vehicles may be in the area. The enemy already hold Innstadt and outlying farms and Industrial areas as marked on map. Best estimates suggest these forces consist of approximately a reinforced Tank PLT (T80) and 1 or 2 PLT inf and probably a missile team or two. The enemy HQ and its vehicles are thought to be in Innstadt b) Own: The early enemy advance has caught us on the hop during rearming and replenishment. Initially you have only 2 PLT Leo 2A6 and 1 PLT CV90-40B (Inf, LMG and 2 Spike Teams (MR) call signs 1 and 4) ready. 1 PLT Leo 2A6 are frantically completing their replenishment and hope to be ready in about 20 mins and B Coy are also making efforts to get a second PLT of CV 90B to you c) Attachments and detachments: You have 1 PLT organic CSS and 1 Battery (6 tubes) of indirect support (ICM HE and Smoke) 2) MISSION: Attack to defeat enemy forces between Phase Line BRONZE and GOLD to allow control of the area seizing and holding the 2 Objectives 3) EXECUTION: Key Tasks (in any order) 1. The ENY have another two full companies in reserve which they will likely push forward in a COUNTERATTACK when we have taken OBJ GRIFFIN. Confidence about that is HIGH. Quality: likely experienced conscripts and their ammunition the best the Turkish that sold the the vehicles can get. MDA: ENY only in HASTY DEFENSE in Main Defensive Areas (MDA), no constructed defences, entrenchments and major obstacles identified or likely - aside from the known minefields in the South-west of your AO (Reference Maptrace), confidence about which is HIGH. A team of Friendly SOF under direct control of TF HQ (so not on map), will execute Capture/Kill when OBJ Griffin is Cleared enough to safely execute their mission. FIRES; 4 x 6 Tubes of 155mm SP howitzers, no FASCAM available, 1 x 6 x 120 mm SP mortars with their own supply trucks (with the howitzers being further back, so off-map, 8 CAS strike missions on call. Background Älkää helvetti kämppikö puukoilla, kun teillä on uudet moottorisahat What if a war didnt start with a plan? What if instead it started with a collection of misunderstandings, mistakes and refusal to admit your mistakes? This seems to be the case in Finland. Finland has always trodden a dangerous path, trying to steer clear of issues that will lead it into another conflict with the big neighbour which they once were part of for over 100 years. Mostly they have been successfull, and after the end to the Continuation war and after they miraculously managed to live up to Stalins impossible demands to evict the German soldiers with a reduced army in the Lappland war, there have been peace. They have come close to war such as in The Note Crisis (Finnish: noottikriisi) in 1961, but have averted it while remaining and maintaining an armed neutrality. Until now. Russia under increasing internal and external pressure; made worse by the decline in oil price, an international embargo and an inability or refusal from the west to accept or even acknowledge the Russians political needs and demands, have experienced an expanding political and economic crisis. This as been aggravated by what Russia sees as a deliberate and constant international attempt to encroach upon Russian interests and support of their enemies. Or just lack of understanding for the Russian choices with regards to fighting their enemies domestic and abroad. And also also by trying to expand NATO into what Russia terms "The near abroad". Finland have wisely mostly stayed out of this and thus have rarely been the subject of Russian anger or ire. However the same cannot be said of the Baltic states including Estonia which Finland have close ties to. In fact a month ago Finnish soldiers were on an exercise in Estonia, when a skirmish erupted on the eastern border between Russian Border guards and the Estonian army. Accounts differ wildly as to how it started, but what is know is that the battle probably unplanned, unscheduled and without any clear goal broke the Estonian defenders. And that the Russian forces followed further into Estonia, for lack of better explanation then much like a Cat would follow a mouse because its in its nature. Or like a kid would follow another kid in a schoolyard after having had a fight which wasnt finished. This however brought them closer to the Finnish contingent, whose CO relying on his standing orders chose to arm his unit while trying to get orders from his HQ. Orders that through confusion and mistakes werent forwarded up the chain of command. The Russian CO in the meantime did much the same and sadly for many of the same reasons with the same lack of results. So like two blinded boxers the units came into contact with each other and then clashed. This quickly escalated as both sides screamed for reinforcements and support, and by the time the respective political and military leaders managed to seperate the forces dozens were dead and hundreds wound including many locals. Then came the blaming game, which resolved nothing. This was made more difficult by NATO and EU going along their own tangents and moving to their own agendas. But as Russia strenghtened their military presence along th Finnish border, then prudence forced Finland to do the same. A week ago someone threw a lit match into the powederkeg, as a bomb blew up a Russian borderpost. Finland denied any and all involvement and denounced it as terrorism and offered to help find the criminals who did it. This however did not ease tensions and two days after that an artillery duel started across the border. This set events into motions as Russian forces crossed the border at several places. The war that wasnt declared or planned is now in motion. I. Situation Time 1100 Local Time Weather Clear sky with no chance of rain, 15 degrees Centigrade and LOS 3000 Km. General. We are at war, allthough it hasnt been formally declared yet. Due to the fact that this war seemed to start as a collection on coincidences and unplanned events, then the enemy - or for that matter ourselves as well - arent fully prepared. The Enemy has thrust a few miles into our territory and in our AO has set up a temporary airport for their rotary wing planes to our North. Their airport isnt big enough to handle fixed wing planes, so it is expected that they will soon thrust South to take the airport we are currently in control of. Or likely primarily also to deny us its use. The terrain is fairly closed, but not as closed as we would have liked. Still it is the estimate of HQ that it just might - combined with the unprepared stance of the ENY - might be possible to do in smaller scale what our great-grandfathers did in the Winter Wra. Namely to hit them while they are enroute to deploy. It is uncertain which route they will follow, so therefore 2 platoons from the Utti Jaeger Regiment (Finnish: Utin Jääkärirykmentti, (UTJR)), have created a number of Observation Posts to our North so we and you hopefully can get real-time Intel on how the ENY deploys and where. Their orders in true Recon fashion is to avoid combat at all costs: their mission is to use their eyes and ears, and not their trigger fingers. Also we have allocated an UAV for your use. But for the same reason that you can get no fixed- or rotary wing support, then you cant push it too far north North as the ENY both enjoy local air superiority AND have formidable AA capabilities to the north. We have plotted our best estimate based on SIGINT and HUMINT, where their coverage ends. With these assets, then it is hoped that you will be able to hit the ENY while he is out of formation and unable to bring his forces to bear. In short we are hoping that you will be able to create one or two Mottis and Defeat the enemy in Detail. From the size and composition of the Enemy then we expect that he will use two routes at most for his attack on the Airport, with an additional portion of his forces set aside for reinforcements/QRF. For those of you too young to remember the lessons of the Winter War, then Motti is Finnish military slang for a totally encircled enemy unit. The tactic of encircling it is called motitus, literally meaning the formation of an isolated block or "motti", but in effect meaning an entrapment or envelopment. The word means "mug" in many Finnish dialects; an alternate translation refers to a cubic meter of firewood, a relatively small area in which an encircled enemy could be "cut down" like trees. We are politically and militarily still building up, so we need the Enemy to get a bloody nose and show our potential allies and helpers that we are viable and that they can bet on us not to fold before they might help us. Allthough we are rapidly reactivating old equipment and reservists, then the simple math is that the enemy is bigger, stronger and has far more ressources than us. So we need to be smart and flexible. We expect the ENY to have far less flexibility in their Command and Control structure, which is another reason the Motti tactic hopefully will work. Like our forefathers we need to know when to hit, when to fall back and when to shift positions. Remember the words of the great American General Patton: “No dumb bastard ever won a war by going out and dying for his country. He won it by making some other dumb bastard die for his country.” Our Taskforce SISU, as part of an ADHOC Battlegroup, have been tasked with this mission. You will be outnumbered but not outfought. We have a difficult tasking in that our options are very much open, and the HQ needs us to exploit any mistakes the ENY makes and use all opportunities. But our primary task is to deny the ENY the use of the airport to the South, and inflict the maximum damage possible to him in the process. All this while remaing combat effective for the next battle. If it turns out that the chance shows it self, then you are free to use your own initiative to push further north as long as it doesnt endanger your other tasks. From INTEL, then it appears that the Enemy have no prepared defences in the north or elsewhere in this AO but from HUMINT and SIGINT, then its expected that they have a light screening force in place to hold off any attack from the South, as well as a COY(+) sized QRF to support where needed. Taskforce SISU have been assembled to defend OBJ PUUKO and destroy the Enemy to our North. We on our Finnish soil, however the situation is dire. Thus you are cleared to use all weapons at your disposal with extreme prejudice in all of the AO, including FIRES in the Urban areas. And you have the full weight of the BTN artillery at your call. Enemy Forces. The Enemy to our overall front is a Battalion sized(+) combined Russian Force. From Intel, then this seems to be at least two full combined and reinforced Companies with T72B1, BMP-2, BTR-80 and with additional support and recon troops, and with further reinforcements or QRF - estimated to be at least another combined and reinforced COY of MECHINF and TNKS. Added to which is a light screening force around the ENY forward HQ/Airbase and ENY AA units spread out in the northern AO. We expect the ENY to be experienced and their ammunition the best they can get. The Enemy is on the offence and have constructed no defences nor we do not expect any ENY Obstacles or minefields in your AO, attack vector and direction, confidence about that is HIGH. But we do however expect them to be aggressive and in a combat stance. We expect the ENY to reinforce from the North (Reference Maptrace), when you hit them. We have no ETA on the ENY reinforcements/QRF from the North but from our observations would expect that they are in a 15 minute alertpattern, so you have some time before they arrive. Confidence about that is MEDIUM. In line with the previous including their OOB, then we expect them to use two routes and moving by road until they get closer to our airport, which is their obvious OBJ, before they switch into a Combat stance and formation. This is in part due to the terrain which has a number of lakes, swamps and waterways. HQ have promised that other opearations will deny the ENY of any further reinforcements from the North beyond what is described above. Confindence about that is HIGH. From SIGINT and knowing their SOP, then we know that the ENY have access to Artillery in substantial but unknown amounts. Friendly Forces. We have no local air superiority, and therefore we have no strike planes nor rotary wing support. This is primarily due to strong local Air defence, but also stronger ENY airforces than ours in this AO. We have NO other friendly forces in our immediate vicinity, with the next line of defence - IF we fail and fall - further West. Our Taskforce consists of 3 x tank platoons of Leopard 2A6 as well as 2 x mechanized infantry platoon of CV90/30-FI, along with a tactical reserve of 1 PLT of Leopard 2A6 and a 1 PLT of CV90/30-FI. We also have 4 x 6 Tubes of 155mm SP howitzers, which have a full range of rounds including Four (4) FASCAM missions (self-destruct 30 mins) and 2 x 6 x 120 mm SP mortars with their own supply trucks (with the howitzers being further back, so off-map), as well as support assets from HQ Company (repair, 2 x supply and medical). We have no Air due to heavy presence of ENY AA and AAA in AO, but we do have an UAV (P-4). But do not push the UAV too far north or it will surely be shot down (Reference Map trace) Our dismounted infantry from B COY is equipped with 2 x Anti-Tank teams (SPIKE MR) (Odds callsigns). Each MECHINF platoon in B COY thus has 2x Anti-Tank teams, the rest being issued with 4 x M72A4 and riflegrenades plus a medicteam, and are all considered Elite. Our engineers have readied charges to give you four (4) Abatis to be placed by your command. C. All Laws of War are to be observed. II. Mission Taskforce SISU is to destroy enemy defenders between PL YKSI and PL KAKSI, and to defend OBJ PUUKO. And to prepare to repulse ENY Counterattacks/QRF from North. III. Execution Concept of the Operation: Taskforce SISU with 2 PLTs in tactical reserve, will attack from the SOUTH and towards NORTH, setting an attack by fire from PL YKSI towards PL KAKSI, and try to catch and isolate the ENY while they are out of formation and position. They have 4 FASCAM missions to assist in this goal. They will also use own assets to defend OBJ PUUKO from the Enemy, including the sizeable Artillery assets at its command. This will open the area for further offensive operations, disrupt the Enemys defences in the area and achieve our overall political goals in this stage. Do not risk the integrity of your command by attacking the Enemy forward HQ and temporary airbase to the North UNLESS the TF CO is positive enough that this can achieved successfully and without compromising the integrity of his command. However you are encouraged to use initiative and ingenuity in executing the goals. Commanders Intent Purpose - The purpose of this operation is to attack, and then clear the Enemy forces and defeat their will to fight in this AO, while defending OBJ PUUKO. Key Tasks 1. Attack from vicinity PL YKSI towards OBJ KAKSI destroying the ENY as you go. 2. Defend OBJ PUUKO and repulsing ENY QRF. 3. If possible and sensible exploit any opportunities including attacking the ENY HQ and forward Airbase to the North. End State Friendly Friendly forces postured on or in vicinity of PL KAKSI; consolidated and prepared and able to continue operations towards the SOUTH. Enemy Enemy forces defeated or destroyed between PL YKSI and PL KAKSI, unable to support Enemy forces in the Southern part of the AO. BACKGROUND: It is January 2019... and war has come to Finland again. In Much the same way as happened 80 years ago, then Russia expected to overrun Finland and the Baltic states and consolidate their gains before anyone in general and EU in particularly could, would or dared to do anything about it. And thus in effect reducing the options of creating sanctions that does not work anyway on non-democratic nations as China and other dictatorships surprisingly never really uphold them, if at all. Russia managed to take the Baltic states, but surprisingly had to pay a very bloody price for their gains as they took on units initially of the JEF rather than NATO. That has changed now as NATO is in full war mode and have redeployed to the East and are desperately trying to reactivate and repair units which previously mostly existed on paper due to years of neglect and underfunding of European forces. Combined NATO forces have come to the aid of Finland as everyone can see the futility of trying to retake the Baltic states in a frontal attack, which would need to be an amphibeous assault across a contested sea. In line with this, then retaking the Baltics would be a risky if not outright impossible endeavour once Russian forces are consolidated after an attack and occupation. Therefore assisting Finland following the Russian attack is not only morally and politically acceptable. But is a strategic way of containing further Russian aggression while buying time to enable reinforcing the defence to the south, so from Poland and all the way to the Black sea really. In other words containment, or a case of Domino theory reapplied as it were. In the north, then Finland has at least in part created another rerun of events from 80 years ago and have isolated Russian forces in what can be termed a large Motti. So a limited but large sized enemy unit which can now be whittled down and destroyed in place. In line with this we need to close the noose by securing a vital crossroads to the north so the total destruction of trapped Russian forces can hopefully begin. Our tactical situation is challenging: You are caught between a rock and a hard place. Failure is not an option. 1) SITUATION: a) Time: 060600ZJAN2019, Local time: 0800 b) Terrain: Wooded and patchy boggy terrain channel Armd manoeuver and provide concealed AT ambush sites. Major water obstacles dominate the area in both the center and east. Heavily forested areas provide effective concealment. Small villages are scattered throughout; Civilians are friendly unless proven hostile. Major LOC limited to what seems to be two overall routes see map. c) Weather: Overcast with a chance of rain, 3 degrees Celsius, low wind. Visibility good out to 3km. No impact on sensor capabilities. f) Enemy: ENY Mech BTN with tank and ATGM support has been observed in defensive position blocking our access to a vital crossroad in OBJ SISU. ENY consist of around a mechanized BTN with tanks in support. Intel indicates ENY forces are of Second echelon Russian origin mainly with T72B1´s, BMP-2's and BRDM´s. But there is a chance that there are an unknown but probably limited number of more ENY vehicles to reinforce. We believe ENY has access to ATGM of mixed Russian types as well as some AA capability in the northern part of the AO. Indirect fires has been observed and we believe more than one batteries of 152 mm howitzers is available to them. Main COA appears to be a defense with obstacle belts along main road to OBJ SISU. We believe and hope that ENY will withdraw back into our Motti if we are able to put enough pressure on them, thus it is hoped sealing their fate. You are up against a numerically superior force of armor and infantry, but of older manufacture. BTN recce units and UAV has located ENY obstacle belts ahead of you. It is marked on map. There might be more as INTEL expects ENY resistance to solidify as you push north. g) Own: Combined Nordic Taskforce units need to secure crossroad at OBJ SISU for follow-on forces. It is CMDR intent to push through and breach obstacles on the way to OBJ SISU. Alternatively seek a more westerly route, which is through tough terrain and ENY concentrations. Or a combined plan: this is up to the CO. We have been assigned an international mix of Scandinavian units for the tasks. We are the front units with follow on forces behind us. We have one TNK PLT in reserve for BG CO to trigger if needed as well as one MECHINF PLT already on ground but in tactical reserve initially. Finally there is one ENG SEC in reserve if needed. Also there are two PLT of Jaeger units under Own Direct BTN control, to secure our rear (see map trace). All your units are equipped with the best gear available incl. multi spectral smoke for mortars and artillery. All your infantry are handpicked and considered Elite. BTN recce has been assigned your BG and put under your tactical control. The same goes for and BTN ENG support, which is to be used per your discretion to breach or clear minefields per your plan and the mission. Finally you have access to UAV so use it wisely Your BG consist of: - CO Group (CO 1x TNK Leopard 2A6, XO 1x CV90, 1x FOV90 FO, 1 x M113/ENG, CSS) - BTN Recce PLT (CV9035/DK) (Armed with CG) (Danish Forces) NOTE: Recon will have a deployment zone they can deploy in. Recon ONLY - 2 x TNK PLT Leopard 2A6 (Finnish forces) - Equipped with Mineplows (callsign 1 and 4 only in each PLT) - 2 x CV9040/C PLT (PLT= 4xCV9040/C, 4x NLAW, 2 x SPIKE SR in 1 and 4) (Swedish Forces) - 1 x ENG PLT (2x SEC: WISENT AEV normal width mineplough, M113ENG Miclic and M113/ENG) (Armed with AT-4) (Swedish/Danish forces) - 1 x Arty BTY (6 x Tubes 155 mm M109, with reload vehicles) (Norwegian forces) + 2 Batts offmap ARTY support ( 2 x 6 tubes 155 with SMOKE and HE) + UAV Support - 1 x M1064 MMT PLT (6 x tubes 120 mm, with reload vehicles) (Norwegian Forces) Reserve: - 1 x TNK PLT (Leopard 2A6) - 1 x CV9035/DK (Armed with CG) - 1 x SEC ENG GTK Boxer (AT-4) 2) MISSION: Combined Task Force Nordic attacks to seize OBJ SISU if possible within 2hrs, in order to enable follow on forces to cut off and then destroy ENY. 3) EXECUTION: Key Tasks: 1. Secure crossroads at OBJ SISU 2. Clear Main Road for follow on forces, including creating a passage through the minefields. 3.
