UK Armour equipment change

UKA is starting a trial of the CV9030-Fi as a possible replacement for our current CV9035-dk, with a concurrent change of equipment for the dismounts. Further details and opportunity for feedback can be found here:

Why not the Ulan? Looks exactly like a Warrior, has an easy-to-use fire control system. I'm sure there are skin mods for it, or should be easy to make

yeah - we will still run british stuff. Hence the name 8)

But since fully modeled main tank is leo2a5 and also easy to use IFV is cv90 then we use them.

We have promised Hedge that we use british vehicles also. And I hope that the upcomming Rolling Thunder can lure out the brits :clin:

That should done...a Uk gear mission from time to time.

Esp. given the Unit tradition!

I think it may (no basis for this - just a pluck) have something to do with the active membership having a scandinavian slant.

Just like the CR 2 seems to be losing ground to the Leo 2A5.

But entirely their perogative.

Or maybe a name change to EU Armour.

Of course if the UK leaves the EU this could be a problem. LoL

I see what you did there. Nah I think its mostly to do with the fact that people want fully model vehicles.

But no fear. One of these day we will have brit nights. We smack or fingers silly on the warrior gunner sight and drink tee and biscuits. :gun:

Personally I also like the CR2 alot. It takes some getting use to and its slow as f..., but it looks like a million punds and is still awesome in defence. 8)

A name change was discussed recently, but the majority opinon was that we should stick with UK Armour but emphasize the international nature of the unit. Which, if you visit our website, is very much the case. And the wide variety of posts on this forum from 'non UK' players reinforces that.

When we run 'Britkit' nights we will use the Ulan as a proxy for the upgraded Warrior that the British armour MAY get one day this side of the end of the world. There are two main reasons we won't use the Warrior as currently modelled in SB. 1. It is more an APC than an IFV and that makes it unrewarding to play. 2. The refusal of Esim - despite many requests and viable suggestions - to change the turret traverse/elevation controls from the arrow keys to something more usable while still not providing full 'tanklike' control.

Trials of the CV9030-Fi have been an outstanding success and this vehicle has now replaced the CV9035-dk as the standard IFV in the UK Armour inventory. At the same time the two dismount fire teams have been re-equipped with NLAW instead of AT4 and heavy machine gun. Not only that, but each UKA Mechanised Infantry Platoon has acquired a 5th vehicle carrying a Javelin team. Quite where the money came from to fund these changes is not clear, but rumour has it that Major Duck has been staying out very late recently and returning home in the early hours of the morning looking rather dishevelled.

King Tiger has posted a link to a custom UKA skin for our new vehicles on our forum that features the UKA shield and a yellow square 'infantry' indicator. Regular players are encouraged to download and install it - particularly those who record and post in-game videos. Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2cnt1bzakrklw1s/cv9030FI.rar?dl=0

Love the decal!

Edit: I've never messed with the CV9030 until you guys mentioned it here - impressive machine. The fire control system is much better than the Ulan, and I will use it in place of the Warrior for any future UK scenarios I create.

Can you ask your buddy to upload that skin to SB.com?

Also - got a desert skin? I dont see a UK desert skin for the 9030 in the downloads repository.

Why the 5th vehicle in the platoon for Javelin? An Armd Inf A/Tk pl has 2 x WR 511 and 9 x WR 510. The 511s are for the Pl Comd and the Pl WO2. The A/Tk platoon is generally kept together as a Bn asset and may be used to provide some additional punch to recce.

Well they seem to be going for a force overly optimised to face an armoured threat.

I suspect the lack of a gimpy anywhere in the Platoon might be an issue against a dismounted foe.

Will upload the skin. Skinning is King Tiger's province and he is away on the Cold Response exercise until next week. I'm sure he'll let you know if he intends to do a desert skin. But as he is Swedish I wouldn't hold your breath. :)

Well, UK Armour is guided by RL practice but not restricted by the TOE of any particular army. The 5th vehicle was the idea of our Mech Inf specialist King Tiger, and is currently experimental. Such are the advantages of the virtual world - and virtual budgets. :)

Ahh but thats what the chain gun is for. The AFV is part of the section...

Virtual units and virtual budgets are wonderful things. Would it not be amazing if our lords and masters let us do some virtual experimenting with virtual force structure before committing real cash to real ventures.

Any chance of AJAX/SCOUT on the next update for some experimentation... (Joking - unless the Aussies buy it...)

The word from KT is:

Our teams now have both 5,56 and 7,62 ammo so we actually still have a MG team. We just can't shoot the weapon ourselves (as with a proper MG team), but suppress works well enough. So each team is now equipped with 1 x 7.62MG and 2-3 5.56 rifles, 1 NLAW ready and 4 in reserve.
