Galileo
A set of photos showing a special centurion from the Swiss army used to build bunker. Apparently , the system was used to move the tank turret on the top of the bunker http://www.fwk.ch/fotos/varia/centurion-bunkerbau/ m Edited April 5, 2016 by Galileo
Marko
Excellent find and post. the day of the bunker has long passed with laser guiled bunker busters and deadly accurate ATGM's Always been interested in bunkers especially WW2 bunkers the Germans were masters at building them the Maginot Line was a engineering master piece . Although a flawed defensive strategy In WW2 the British army used to drive a crocodile flamethrower tank/Churchill variant to within range, and then gave the defenders a demonstration of its capability's It was normally enough even for the most fanatical defenders to surrender. Alicatt
When my wife and I went down to Stelvio in 2007 to cross the pass there we were surprised by the number of fortifications built into the cliffs etc. especially between Austria and Italy

Well is not always the case, think about air defense.....right now the only air defense systems are Stinger missiles, 35mm Oerlikon guns and Rapier system ( and the Rapier is for protecting mobile forces NOT cities or airports or critical points). From the late eighties, when we dismissed the old Bloodhound SAM system, Switzerland had not any replacement.... and the Military establishment keep thinking at buying new jet fighters....recently people voted against buying the "new" version of the Gripen, and many voices ( even from the military ) were critical of buying a new fighter when we don't have an efficient air defense missile system. I think that for the next 10 to 15 years the 30+ FA18 will be good enough to do air police duty.... I think it will be far more important to get a modern air defence system before looking at new fighter jets.
Galileo
didn't the Swiss air policy only work during office hours 8AM to 5PM and from Monday to Friday? at least it was in 2014 when the Ethiopian airplane landed a Geneve.

Yes that's right but this is going to change and by 2020 it's going to be 24/7.
