US Army and USMC moves forward to test Active Protection Systems.

Recommended Posts

Long story short. US Army for long term developes Modular Active Protection System, it does not mean as far as I understood that they will develop completely new system, but rather modular architecture so it will be easier to combine various APS in to a single system.

For near term, US Army and USMC will integrate and test Rafael Trophy active protection system with M1A1, M1A2 and Stryker. The goal is to have all front line combat vehicles be equipped with active protection system, so M1A1/M1A2, M2A2/M2A3 and Stryker family of vehicles.

Besides Trophy, other known competing system is Raytheon Quick Kill.

M1126 integrated with Quick Kill, visible are VLS launchers and something that looks like a radar antenna. It seems that quietly Raytheon through whole these years was testing and improving Quick Kill.
