Aren't they that effective in real life?

note: serious question - not sarcasm

Well in the absence of a realistic air defense capability, yes.

The issue in SB is that this integrated air defense system isn't represented (cue posts requesting playable ZSU 23/4, etc.).

An attack helo's life expectancy is relatively short when it needs to get to the battlespace, remain alive while firing and then exit (this is part of the argument for Longbow etc. and for one helo to spot / control the fire of others as required).

In a real world conventional war environment, a Helo hovering at X hundred metres and firing at will at ground targets would soon be the focus of every nearby (within several Km) SA-7, SA-8, SA-9, ZSU-23/4, etc. gunner or be in turn targeted by fixed wing avaition looking for easy prey or even opposing attack helos.

This is one of the "issues" with eSim trying to walk a fine line between fully modelling the air environment and the current abstract depiction (cue more posts requesting links / integration with DCS, etc.).

Will some sort of collaboration between esim and DCS would have been the best option for a combined arms CAS type simulation.

But that's not an option.

With out opening an old disagreement.

I do hope CAS would be the improved down the development road but i do appreciate its no easy task.
