I have a friend who would like to demo Steel Beasts, but the idea of having to pay for a month license is a bit off putting. Is there any demo available so he can try out SB Pro PE without making a financial commitment?

Besides the timed licenses (the cheapest being $9.50 for a month), not really. The next best thing would be for your friend to find someone who has a secondary license, and see if they would be willing to let him connect to their network to use it.

Some of us used to offer a limited time "demo" when there was only the full license option.

However it meant that the Lender did a lot of work so the Borrower got a free copy and I at least had several instances of people asking for loans when if fact they had already had one but were using a different email address to prolong the "free" use.

Once the US$10 for a month option came out, we stopped offering the Demo as it was costing the Lenders more than that per person to track users, set them up, etc.

Perhaps you and your friend can kick in US$5 each and defray the cost that way?

Hi Nate,

Paying for a month is definitely a good idea.

Recommend your friend watches *lots* of the Steel Beasts 4  content on YouTube to really see how the game is played and looks. Matsimus channel is a good start, if a bit potty-mouthed:)

Then pay for a one-month timed license to make sure the latest version of the game runs properly on your own system and can be configured to give you the performance you want in a range of real scenarios, rather than demo optimised ones. Going this route is worth every cent.

The pay as you play / software as a service model is nothing new (Office 365 and Adobe CS have done if for years) and with SB you can effectively shelve it for a few months and only pay for it again when the mood takes you. This is better than annual subscription where you pay for software even when you don't need/want it!

Then again, if you get hooked, you can get the permanent dongle doo-hickey and run it forever (hopefully).

Enjoy!
