Does anyone here play MBT by James Day? Great Tactical fun, it goes relatively deep into simulation of gun combat, damage models based on facing, armor and angling. Spotting and command chain plays a big part. It's like squad leader but with a focus on modern mechanized warfare rather than infantry.

Combat mission cold War announced

Combat Mission Cold War is set in the tipping-point years of a conflict that gripped the world for 45 years. Between 1979-1982, both the NATO and Soviet Warsaw Pact militaries began the shift away from industrialized warfare of the early 20th century and towards the modern digital battlefield of today. Combat Mission Cold War simulates several “what if” conflict scenarios between US and Soviet forces centered on the strategic Fulda Gap and environs in West Germany.

Combat Mission Cold War comes with 3 full campaigns. Here are some details about them:

  • The NTC Campaign. The National Training Center in the California Mojave Desert was established in 1982, right at the end of Combat Mission Cold War’s time frame. The NTC campaign puts you in command of a US Army Company Team as it begins its rotation and trial by simulated fire against the premier Soviet style formation in the world, the NTC OPFOR (Opposing Force).
  • The US West German Campaign. Set in the southern Fulda Strategic Corridor between Fulda and Hanau, the US campaign unfolds across historically accurate maps as player take charge of the 2nd Bn TF of the 28th Infantry Regt in a race to stop the Soviet juggernaut. In keeping with the sandbox theme of Combat Mission Cold War, there are two versions of the US Campaign, 1982 and 1979 to allow players the opportunity to see and compare the differences in equipment between the two periods.
  • Off-map naval support, including battleships with their massive guns
  • The Soviet Campaign. Set north and east of Fulda, the Soviet Campaign follows the “Ride of the 120th Motor Rifle Regt” on the opening 48 hours of a fictional “what if” West German invasion. Players will fight on historical battlefields “that never were”, such as Eiterfield and Alsfeld as part of the first wave of Soviet troops racing towards their divisional objectives.

Still buggy as hell. Started a campaign with only submarines, cargo and tanker. After 2 days all my subs suddenly can't launch torpedoes anymore even with all tube full, 99% solution, good bearing and depth.

Will wait few months until they patches it to a playable level.

Curious to see if their engine can handle a serious inflation of map sizes, otherwise I won't bother.

I do not believe that the current Combat Mission engine (2.0) can support modern combat.

These guys need to stop releasing "mods" for the CM 2 engine and do some work on CM 3 to support larger maps and better performance.

Thanks Galileo for sharing.

Can´t remember if "Wargame" has breaching elements.  I liked it here although it was to fast in my opinion, but there are things in Regiments that I like better then Wargame, at least from what I see on video.

No breaching units in Wargame.

In regiments, since you don't buy units with gained points like in Wargame, you have to take care of your units: no more rushing, more planning. That's what I like in this game. It's still a RTS, so people will try to rush but they may lose a lot of units. I hope in the campaign the lost units will not be replaced each time.

You get reinforcements during the game but you have to choose between 3 sets of units (can be air, arty, cavalry,...), you can't mix them, so it's also a challenge, what did I take to accomplish my mission?

They have a Discord channel and the devs are open to discussion and ideas:

That's my most hated feature of these wargame type games: "Buying units". I'm glad Regiments departed from this horrid concept.

RIP. I played some of his Naval Campaigns ones (Mainly Guadalcanal) :(

Battlefront Cold War is out. Get my ass kicked  by the Soviet rolling compressor a few times. The maps are still same size.
