I thought the Indian military licence built the t-90.

(Or may be its assemble it from kit not sure on that)

But surly this would  At-least give them the relevant information about newer and better types of Armour used by the Russians

Or its even possible they could have purchased something like Chobham armour theirs not a lot you cant buy on the open military market if your considered a friendly Nation.

From what I heard, Indian build T-90S uses "Kanchan" and not Russian NERA type armor. This means that T-90S made in India have worse protection than Russian made T-90S.

As for building tanks from kits, it would mean that hulls and turrets are made in Russia, so Indian do not have access to armor technology.

...except of course that fiberglass and epoxy resin are in no way similar to Kevlar.

kevlar is regularly woven synthetic fibers held together with a resin.

modern glassfibers are regularly woven glassfibers held together with a resin.

Image result for glassfiber

in no way similar is a bit of a stretch...

Well Kevlar(r) fibres have a tensile strength 5 times stronger than steel.

(well that's what DuPont rekon)

And GRP is a construction material.

So.

You know.

There's that too.

and E-glass has tensile strength 95% that of kevlar.  so there's that.

Got this table from wikipedia. But dont really know how to read it, nor how to hold it up against the info on the Indian fiberglass tanks?

Nor for that matter against Kevlar (which is just a brand name from DuPont right?), so Aramid fibers?

Material Specific gravity Tensile strength MPa (ksi) Compressive strength MPa (ksi)
Polyester resin (Not reinforced)[16] 1.28 55 (7.98) 140 (20.3)
Polyester and Chopped Strand Mat Laminate 30% E-glass[16] 1.4 100 (14.5) 150 (21.8)
Polyester and Woven Rovings Laminate 45% E-glass[16] 1.6 250 (36.3) 150 (21.8)
Polyester and Satin Weave Cloth Laminate 55% E-glass[16] 1.7 300 (43.5) 250 (36.3)
Polyester and Continuous Rovings Laminate 70% E-glass[16] 1.9 800 (116) 350 (50.8)
E-Glass Epoxy composite[17] 1.99 1,770 (257)
S-Glass Epoxy composite[17] 1.95 2,358 (342)

  • 1 month later...

Actually, Kanchan Armour is made of a specially formulated mixture of wood, mud, and plastic making it indestructible.

Tests done proved it was comparatively lighter than western armor.

So Deja and Damian are both incorrect in their armchair investigations.

Obviously, they didn't spend enough time looking at google for stuff to troll about.

Maybe they should quit their day jobs and do this shit full time. :D
