What is this tank?

Recommended Posts

@Bond_Villian Doing a quick reverse image search revealed that this picture is taken at the Golan Heights, with the actual destruction occurring during the Yom Kippur War.

I would make the educated guess that it is a Sho't variant.

Centurion variant, or at least half of one.

Ok yeah i see that now. Didnt recognise it with the turret being a bit odd...and half the tank being elsewhere

The turret probably looks "odd" because the various stowage bins that are usually around the turret are now missing.

Almost two decades ago, several old tanks, which had been phased out years earlier, were scattered by the IDF around the 1973 battlefields in the Golan as monuments (but no maintenance is applied), and others as targets for tank gunnery practice. The Sho't Cals were of the 1979 Gimel (C) version, which still lacked the gun thermal shroud, as opposed to the 1984 Dalet (D) version.

Sadly, local (the ones who wish that the Golan would return to Syrian hands) metal thieves gradually dismantle these vehicles, which explains why this one had lost its rear part and more.

The ERA bolts indicate that it is not a 1973 corpse, as ERA was introduced in 1976. Besides, the damaged tanks were collected during and after the war, wherever they could be reached.

you are all wrong, that is the new test stealth tank.    it is designed to make the enemy think it is destroyed so they will get close enough for you to kill them
