daskal
I have found a very simple way to get rid of the "noise" that can be seen in the TIS view of the tanks and PC's. Although I'm not sure whter it should be used or not (could this be considered as cheating?) - here are two pics to compare how it looks like right now - and how it looked before. Here is how it looks like with the mod: Here is how it looked like before:
Tacbat
Looks more like a TIS upgrade from Gen 1 technology to Gen 3. I wouldn't call it cheating.
GH_Lieste
Personally I'd find a 'winter' mod for TIS more useful, ie reduced leaf cover for the decidous trees/bushes/grass

I wouldn't call it cheating.i totally agree. looks good Daskal. it's doesn't really affect how well anything shows up. it's just a cleaner picture.

That would be one sweet mod if it were possible to accomplish.
daskal
it is possible, fast and easily - I just want to make sure I'm not going to make unjustice to the sim if I post it up - so lets just wait a bit and see what others (eSims etc. ) think of it.
haukka81
I dont like it, feels bit of cheating. (imho)
Administrators Sean Posted December 22, 2007 Administrators Share Posted December 22, 2007 The noise was added for a reason, taking it out seems like cheating to me.
LarryHookins
I have a good idea what you did to get that effect. I'll give it a try myself and let you know what I think. I suspect the main effect will be to extend the effective range of the TIS considerably. You'll be able to identify details on vehicles at somewhat longer ranges. You can see a similar effect when testing a scenario in the mission editor. When you're in external view, you can toggle the thermal imaging using the normal commands. The view is very clean compared to what you see through the sights.Larry

LarryHookins
I think the question of whether or not it is a cheat can be answered easily enough. If you were playing H2H in very low visibility, possibly without map updates and a bunch of computer controlled units in the scenario as well, would you be happy if your opponent had this mod and you didn't?Larry
Tacbat
Without being able to test the proposed mod in different conditions/ranges/vis, how do we know if there's an unfair advantage?
LarryHookins
Once Pandora's box has been opened, there's no way to unopen it. Try looking at the same scene in the mission editor external view. Turn the TIS on and see what the difference is. Here's another example from the game. 3Star
Don't like it. The real ones are pretty miserable as well.NTM
Splash
I wouldn't use it ... any more than I would put hunter orange skins in my Red folder. But like GH, I'd love to see the foliage-in-winter issue fixed.
daskal
I'm not going to release this - in fact I didn't really wanted to - so maybe it would be better if this thread would be just deleted - maybe Sean you could remove this thread entirely.
1/3L_Fuchs
the "grain" in TIS view isn't so bad in SB so i don't like the pixelized aspect! here is some picture taken from SABCA TIS used in Leo1a5Be the image quality isn't good as i'd like cause there is a big lense betwen APN and TC monitor an A109 in day light sight same A109 at same distance bad quality due to APN so in real we can easily recognize an A109 some tanks pictures we can see more details in real than in SB TIS view

Hedgehog
Well to be honest, You'll never get a squeaky clean TIS image anyway,There will always be "noise" present on the display. All those semiconducters usually use FETs, this equals noise.Same with digicameras in the dark. All technology can do is reduce it, it will most likely never eliminate it.Therefore I say, no to this Mod.my two pence
Zipuli
...Tho would be cool to see better quality TIS -image for newer vehicles (with newer TIS -equipment) and the old one is good for -80's equipment like 2A4s and M1A1s... This when eSim has finished the other stuff on the list . But seriously it would be nice to have different quality TIS equipment and of course the crappier II and IR for some vehicles like the soviet tank I am not going to mention by name! cobrabase
I'm a sick twisted bastard for realism but I'd be very interested in this mod so help simulate the better sights in the M1A2 or SEP. Consider emailing it (or instructions on how to do it) to me.
Tacbat
...Tho would be cool to see better quality TIS -image for newer vehicles...I was thinking along those lines. Surely there is a difference between a Leo 1's TIS and an STRV-122?
3Star
...Tho would be cool to see better quality TIS -image for newer vehicles (with newer TIS -equipment) I believe this is implemented where appropriate. compare the M1A1's TIS with the Leo2A5's CITV.NTM
