Nike-Ajax
KANIUM Sunday 26th of April- "HUSSAR RIDE" by Grenny/Ronin Where: Kanium TS : teamspeak3.i3d.net:10077 World Clock 1800 GMT (Same time as always in Europe - now adjusted for Summer Time: click the time below for your local time) World clock 1800 GMT IMPORTANT NOTICE: This SB session may be recorded with video and sound and uploaded, including to a public youtube channel. IMPORTANT NOTICE II: I suggest to all who play with us download and install Chris mappack: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hr1jl33xxhacftx/SB Converted Maps v2.rar?dl=0 For the next three months at least we will be working with this mappack and the official one when making scenarios. AS always, then we are running the session with the latest version of Steelbeasts. Everybody is Welcome: you don't have to belong to Kanium. We love playing with you all, the arranger and CO loves you even more if you sign up in advance Notes to players: 1. My intend with this scenario is to practice fire control, ammo management* and communications on platoon and company level...as well as an addes dose of practice in "Steam gunnery" 2. all vehicles on the blue side are set to "blind"...so what ever there is to spot, report or to kill: YOU have to do it. (the dismounts are NOT blind...they'll do their job) 3. the tanks and AT-units on OPFOR side are blind too...so when you duel them, it will be a "fair" fight 4. While I have added an extra tank platoon (Hussar-3), this is just in case there are well too many players. I strongly recommend leaving it south of the river...and I strongly recommend multi crewing for the tanks 5. practice your squinting drill...image the Sho't Kal having 20-pounder guns, the T-55's being T34 etc etc...;-) Excerpts of the battalion commander's orders for... 1) SITUATION: a) Enemy: During the current armistice negotiation, enemy forces are trying to make a final push to gain ground and improve their negotiation position. 2 Infantry divisions, mainly CN "volunteers" have attacked southward between YEONCHEON and CHEORWON and have pushed the UN forces back. Most likely goal is to reach the cities of POCHEON and DONGDUCHEON. North and west of DONGSON-EUP at least 2 Regiments of CN "volunteers" including tank support are preparing for an attack south towards YEONBUK-MYEON Between us and DONGSON-EUP are the remnants of the initial attack waves..roughly a BN minus, with very limted AT capabilities. They have be supported by elemtens of a recon unit in light tanks(PT-76) At least one Rgt of CN volunteers with tank support has been seen marching south...they will be effective around DONSON-EUP in about one hour. b) Own: Most of the attacks fell onto the 29th brigade, all BN have been engaged forced to fall back. The Brigade intents to re-consolidate in new positions south of the riverline east and west of YEONGBUK-MYEON All units have reached these position by midnight... However, parts of the 1stBN RUR have been cut of during the retreat, and are currently pinned down by enemy forces in the southern parts of DONGSONG-EUP 2) MISSION: C-squadron 8th Hussars with support by 2x plt from the 1st BN RUR , will attack north to relieve the cut of plt and escort them back to YEONBUK-MYEON 3) EXECUTION: Intent is to save the cut of elements before teh enemy attack is in full swing a) Concept of Operation: - C-squadron will attack over the positions of the Belgians - To secure own left flank, take Obj C (Hill 225) an hold it till all own forces are back south of line "ORANGE" - Then use all remaining assets to attack north of line "ORANGE" and rescue our infantry. - Fall back over the Belgian positions when own units are rescued or enemy pressure is too strong i) Maneuver: to be done by Hussar 66 ii) Fires: No fire support available iii) Additional assets: non available b) Tasks to Maneuver units: t.b.d by Hussar 66 d) COORDINATING INSTRUCTIONS: 5) COMMAND AND SIGNALS: Per Usual SOP

Mirzayev
I'm willing to help coach, teach, and mentor anyone who wants to "have a go" at being the CO for this Operation. H-65.

H-65. Exellent Idea! If someone want's to try himself in the CO seat, this mission would be a good choice. The Centurions are not very fast tanks...so the pace of the mission gives a bit more time for decission making.

Better someone with half an idea on how to employ Sho't Kals..... Couple of manning changes though I'd like newer players as leaders I need troop 2 i/cs who are happy to perform the responsibilities outlined below, i will be expecting this of you, this is key to success: Sgts run the troop, in fire and formation control. Allowing the leader to focus on interacting with the larger formation and "What's happening next" rather than "What's happening now" Also brush up on "Three up" and "Box" formations. (To nay sayers. You have just removed yourself from 2i/c & leader contention.)
Gibsonm
Looks like I can make this - so the usual limitations of a "non recorded" slot (if there are any). Otherwise good luck and I'll enjoy the sleep in. Edited April 22, 2020 by Gibsonm

If someone says "yes": a. I'm screwed. b. I got up for no good reason. Edited April 22, 2020 by Gibsonm

IrishHussar
Hi as a side issue or quest for knowledge. 1. My intend with this scenario is to practice fire control, ammo management* and communications on platoon and company level. which countries actual use Troop/Platoon nets. In the British Army most AFVs only have 2 radios. 1 of them must be on the Sqn/Coy net and 1 on the Battlegroup net. I am aware that there will be differences between arms, ie the Infantry will require a Platoon net to control their dismounts. However on heavy Armour when I served, Troop level radio nets were never used and were actually illegal. Companie commanders and above: 3 nets (4 if you count fires...) Now with "softwaredefined radio"....things are a bit more fluid Don't forget digital modes. (But then that's not "real radio", or you could have the original digital: CW/Morse.) Bit of background: "Software Defined Radio" A Computer analyses a broadband receiver and picks which portion to route to the headphones etc As opposed to an encoder controlling a Variable Frequency Oscillator Or even older....crystals. Anyway it all depends on the capabilities of the radio, some amateur VHF rigs allow you to monitor 2 freqs and on different bands too. Or the new kid on the block is a Flex SDR which allows for internet control. But if you want to see an SDR in action for yourself google "hackgreen sdr" Anyway, back on topic (ish) Back in the day we were limited to 2 nets by using the channel commander function on SB.com Teamspeak So, you're lucky you know the Kanium TS administrators who setup all these lovely channels.

You miss my point. In TeamSpeak we can configure as many radio nets as we like with the only limitation being the amount redundant keystrokes. In real life on the real vehicles you can only use the amount and type of radios that are fitted to your type of vehicle as well as only being allowed to use your allocated frequencies. As for morse, I was a morse operator and I assure you it is not an act of war in a moving vehicle.

Okay, sorry, I think need to clear up a misunderstanding here: I guess you didn't know I am a Licensed Amateur Radio Operator, its the first time this discussion has occurred. I understand how Radio's work, SWR, Antenna Polarisation, ERP, Gain in Decibels, yadda yadda yadda, it is all in the syllabus you go through to get licensed. I also understand that if TS principles could be combined with radios, you would have many more options with regard to security. (Which I suspect is what happens so I'll stop there.) You have my respects being a CW/Morse Op. It is on my to do list. Edited April 22, 2020 by Hedgehog
