Mirzayev
Gents, While firing up the mission 'Excalibur' included with the base game of Steel Beasts, the mission now takes place at night as opposed to during the day time as it did in previous versions. The time listed in the briefing is 1200 for the start time. I'm not sure if this was converted to Zulu or what.
Gibsonm
FWIW, I opened it in 4.023 and its set to 1200 with a GMT offset of 0. Perhaps the Lat / Long for the map moves it away from GMT?
Members Ssnake
The most likely explanation is that the map on which the scenario is based was not properly georeferenced. In that case, as described in the user's manual (ca. page 173), Steel Beasts assigns a default value, which is NOT in the GMT+0 zone. Since the time setting is being preserved (including time zone offset), Steel Beasts renders the sky as it would be seen from the default location, at a set time in some obscure observatory in London (which is definitely worth a read, and possibly a visit if you happen to be there anyway). You can work around this by adjusting the scenario's time zone offset to -8 or so. Or you can fix it by editing the map package (save as new base map) where the map coordinate is set to the real value, whatever that may be. Then replace the scenario's map with the new copy of the map package, adjust the time zone setting in the scenario, and you're set.
Mirzayev
Sounds good. I just wanted to bring it up since it ships with the game.

I haven't read that book, but I hear it's biased toward Harrison and unduly portrays Maskelyne as some sort of villain.
Members Ssnake
Like so many biographies it's biased towards its subject. At the same time it's hard to believe that Maskelyne was an unbiased umpire who wouldn't favor his buddies of the Royal Society over some obscure underclass carpenter with no friends in high places. Because that never happens... But even if you don't follow me here, the book is largely not about the clash of personalities but first and foremost a really excellent description of the scientific problem at the time, and the invention process to solve it. Developing a seaworthy, reliable clock was one of the toughest nuts to crack, especially given the conditions under which it had to be developed.
TankHunter
From 4023 to the current consumer version the UTC time offset changed by -8 hours in the scenario for some reason, that is the cause of the issue it seems. DarkAngel
Right but the map wasn't included in the update.
