Excerpts of the battalion commander's orders for... CG13 Hartfield Gap

1) SITUATION: 0600 May 1999
    a) Enemy:
Enemy forces are making an offensive thrust in the Hartfield Gap area. They are expected to make anything from 1 to 3 initial penetrations of this area.
A light screen is thought to have already made it's way to South Valley. Potentially the screen may have some Armoured support.
Enemy forces consist of T72m4 and BMP2 although a slight possibility they may provide a small number of their newer T90 tanks.
Each thrust is likely to be of BTN strength with an advance element of 1 or 2 Coy
Indirect Artillery support will no doubt accompany the Enemy Advance

    b) Own:
You have the following units :
3 x PLT Leo 2A5, 2x PLT Marder  (3 callsigns each with Inf and Milan AT), 1 x PLT Luchs 2A2, Logisitics platoon also providied
    c) Attachments and detachments: 3 x Battery of Indirect Fire (HE, Smoke and ICM including 2 missions of FASCAM)
Priority markers for FASCAM and Priority fires are available to the CO

Push through initial enemy screen to identify how many enemy assault forces are moving forward and the direction they are taking.
You are NOT expected to stand and fight with your available force which will necessarily be spread out.
Having identified enemy thrusts you should seek to conduct a withdrawal to PL Iron or suitable positions in the area.

Intent: Give a statement that defines the purpose of the operation

    a) Concept of Operation:
Initially you will need to push through light enemy screen dealing with any armoured support.
After this it may be necessary to disperse your force to cover potential enemy offensive routes concentrating again as you identify the enemy advance routes.
Once this is done you should seek to preserve your force withdrawing and seeking to consolidate with your reinforcements
Once you are firm after consolidation you are free to move forward if possible to eliminate enemy penetrations and establish overwatch into North Valley from PL Steel so you
can observe the road junctions leading to Hartfield Gap
You may choose to deploy your Inf and AT teams in suitable backup locations as you move forward initially
NB : Whilst securing Hartfield gap is the Enemy Objective it is not likely that they will advance solely on this axis and will seek to outflank us if we simply concentrate there

Battalion will release a further  2 x Coy of tanks and the remaining Marder PLT of B Coy, with minimal CSS, as enemy penetrate further South
Should Enemy penetrate past PL Iron and your losses be too high Battalion will have to commit battalion Armoured Reserve wich should be considered as turning Victory to a Draw -
TRIGGER 1 will call the Reserve Forward but will only become active when friendly losses v enemy penetration is considered critical - you will be advised when available
Rain easing to a light drizzle

     1. Anytime after 80 mins there are less than 2 PLT Red AFV South of PL Steel
    2. The Hartfield Gap box is clear of Red AFVs
