Mission in densely forested terrain to relieve a cut off Mech Company

Excerpts of the battalion commander's orders for... CG45 Relief of Soulimi

7AM Oct 8th 2020

Weather overcast and drizzle and light rain forecast for later this morning.

An enemy advance has isolated the remains of a Mech force in Soulimi. Enemy forces are massing for an attack within a few hours and are likely to overwhelm this force.

Your task is to relieve the force in place clearing an evacuation route to the North.

Terrain is devoid of major elevations but is heavily forested with many water features. The short blue line crossing roads indicate easily fordable streams.

Roads are sparse but a few potential routes have been identified by intelligence and are indicated for use or not at CO discretion.  The terrain also hampers enemy deployments as well.

1) SITUATION:

    a) Enemy:

Enemy forces in the AO comprise circa 5 Btns mixed T80  (poss a few T90) and BMP2 However they are committed to hold the ring around Soulimi so cannot redeploy their entire force to meet you and will also be spread out covering multiple approaches.

Light units are patrolling around obvious choke points etc but we would not anticipate heavy enemy forces North of the 86 Northing as they need to re-orient from the attack positions they are currently in.

Most of their artilley is committed to the Soulimi area but some indirect support is likely to oppose our advance.

Once our attack begins they will obviously detatch units to stop our advance. This will buy time for the defenders in Soulimi and we can attrite their attack force.

    b) Own:

Your initial force consists:

A Coy CV90 1 Spike per PLT
B Coy Leo 2A6

CSS
2 x Biber Bridgelayers in case of need
1 x UAV  (plus one ready for use if 1 Oscar is lost)

Attached

1 x PLT CV90 to assist scouting (each with 1 Inf, 1 scout, 1 Spike)

Reinforcements:

On crossing PL Spectre - 2 PLT Leo 2A6, 1PLT CV90

        c) Attachments and detachments: 2 x Battery 6 guns   HE/Smoke

2) MISSION:

Relieve siege of Soulimi by getting at least two Tanks into Soulimi AND clearing either W OR E route (achieved by having no enemy AFV in marked cicles).

You will be advised if either route is clear.

3) EXECUTION:

    a) Concept of Operation:

You may clear either or both routes (which may allow switching if resistance is too much on one avenue of attack) but this need not be achieved before reaching Soulimi.

Roads will limit your freedom of movement but off road should not be ignored to outflank enemy blocking positions.

Whilst enemy forces are large they need to cover Soulimi and have a lot of approaches to cover and will need to redeploy in response to your attacks. Therefore you should be able to achieve local superiority.

5) COMMAND AND SIGNALS:

Where required but time for someone else to do CO I think.

Also manning list has omitted the attached scout PLT of CV90B as needing manning initially rather than a reserve. You could place one of the other CV90 PLT in reserve.
