Excerpts of the battalion commander's orders for... CG37 Battle of the Gaps

2 June 2020  0130 L

Slight drizzle giving way to a dry day

It is 24 Hours since we forced the Pilna River. The enemy are now forced onto the defensive.

We are attacking in the early hours to catch them before they are fully ready.

We intend to maintain our momentum by pushing further South and taking their logistics hub at Gravenmaer.

The open terrain gives way to a series of valleys which breaks up both attacking and defending forces on the route South.

Lateral communication largely depends on control of the mountain gaps.

Terrain to the East of the River Allerode is more open

    a) Enemy:

The enemy is frantically organising a defence in depth to delay our advance. Defence consists of strongpoints, delaying forces
of Motorised infantry in some towns backed by dug in tanks.

Enemy has one reinforced Battalion of T90 as his mobile reserve.

Identified composition is estimated as:

1 x Btn T90 with, potentially, 1 extra Coy as last ditch Reserve
2 x weakened Coy of T72 - mainly m4 (incl 1 xPLT T90) largely dug in to reinforce Motorised Inf defenders
1 x Reinf Coy Mech (BMP2)
1 x Reinf Coy Motorised Inf (BTR 80)
Assorted ENY Recon assets including BRDM-2´s
Assorted ENY AA assets in the South
Deployed missile teams are present in defence areas in numbers

Also potential for 1 x PLT Tanks and 1 X PLT Mech on call from Hivanger

Moderate Artillery support.

We have not given them time to prepare any Minefields or other obstacles so have removed the mineplows from your Tanks. Any obstacles will be in the form of improvised, such as Abatis.

The Motorised infantry is scattered among the many towns and the BMP2 will likely be used as more mobile defence

Enemy defence is complicated by having to determine our various axis of attack thus splitting his forces.

    b) Own:

TF Dagger will kick off the offensive with TF Mace as reserve

TF Dagger

2 x Coy M1A2 (AVEPS) retained until Leopards refitted
1 x Coy CV90-40 (AVEPS)  (inf and Spike)
1 x PLT (2 sections) VEC
1 x UAV
2 X CSS ( 2 supply, 1 ARV 1 x Medic)

6 x UH60 with Inf and Spike  (care enemy SAM cover further South)

TF Mace

Similar Compostion except only 1 x CSS and No UH60

Will be committed when enemy AFV North of PL Oak is less than 4

An additional 1 x Co CV90  is on half hour call from North East if PC losses become severe

    c) Attachments and detachments:
3 Batteries off Board Fire Support with HE, Smoke and 120 rounds of ICM per tube
5 x Airstrike

- Clear all Gaps of enemy AFV
- Clear East Bank River Allerode
- Clear enemy up to PL Sycamore (reduced to no more than 1 PLT equivalent of AFV North of PL Sycamore)

You will be advised as each Objective is achieved and need all 3 to be in status of achieved for 5 mins

Intent: Given the geography of the terrain you may undetake the mission objectives in any order and do not have to
attack all axis at the same time.

Well co-ordinated attacks on the enemy strongpoints will be necessary although most are not strongly held

Early start may limit enemy ability to spot our opening moves and somewhat limit his ATGM´s effectiveness in the initial phase

CO controls fires and UAV but may hand off if required
