Gibsonm
Perhaps you need to install as an Admin? No idea how your PC is setup, anti virus or whatever other apps are running? I'm assuming this is Windows 10?

Folder is for mods to sounds, not the original sounds.
Members Ssnake
If you have a fresh installation of Steel Beasts and never used it before, the mods folder will, of course, be empty. For some people - those who like to use sound mods - it may be full of sounds, but not for everybody. I'm sorry that you were sent on a wild goose chase, but this wasn't even worth trying to be honest.
Members Ssnake
Now, in your DxDiag file I saw that the Default Sound Playback and the Default Voice Playback are assigned to different sound devices (the Acer KG281K (NVIDIA High Definition Audio) for general sound, and the Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio) for voice). I can't say with certainty that this is the source of problems, but it's worth investigating. You could, for example, in the sound configuration disable either of the two and see what happens; note that this may be an intentional split for when you have a chat program on, and maybe you do want to have them separately. So be sure to document with screenshots or by taking notes what changes you make so you can revert them later if necessary. Even if this immediately solves the Steel Beasts problem, it may create a new problem elsewhere, so you may want to run some tests with other audio applications (voice chat in particular, but also other games).

Nomad 99
OK. I set the realtek audio speakers as the only enabled device. They are running from the 3.5 mm audio out on my motherboard. The the Acer KG281K (NVIDIA High Definition Audio) is simply my monitor speakers and they are disabled. I have attached the dxdaig.txt and the debuglog.txt from the session I just launched. Still no sound after a re-install and disabling every sound device but the speakers running from the motherboard. All other sound and other games output from those speakers without a problem. Also I noticed for the first time (didn't know any better) that the maps are not loading into the briefing screen. I'll skip the sound stuff. The briefing screen should be just text. The map should be displayed when you select "Terrain".
Nomad 99
Ah that's good to know. Thanks
Members Ssnake
Okay, I guess we can rule out the conflict of having multiple audio devices as the source of trouble. The debug log file has these four conspicuous lines: [18:56:11,437] CSound ERROR: Incompatible WAVE file format [18:56:11,437] CSound ERROR: Could not read wave header [18:56:11,437] CSound ERROR: File could not be opened [18:56:11,437] CGame ERROR: Could not initialize sound card! My next best guess is a sound driver issue. This seems absurd since Steel Beasts uses an about-as-generic-as-it-gets sound file format. Then again, there are these lines, and they're here for a reason.
Nomad 99
I noticed those errors right away. I purchased a Creative Sound Blaster Z SE internal sound card. Do you know if SB has any issues with that model? Hopefully the card has better drivers.

Hey guys, I bought the game a few days ago and wondered why there is no Sound for me. I looked it up and found this post. I tried everything listed above but without sucess. Even tried multiple reinstalls and headphones in game. My sound folder got only one file in it while my voice folders are all empty. Did you find a solution to solve the problem?
