Flash187
Hello. I got into Steal Beasts recently and wanted to play with my friend. Trying to set up a Network Session but we can not join each other. After some research, I opened Ports 2300-2400 (not sure if I did it correctly) but still cant see each others games. My friend got frustated after 4 hours of trying to figure out how to join someones Session. Any help ? Did I not open Ports correctly ? Is this a known issue with the game ? Thanks for everyone taking the time to answer.
Gibsonm
Hi and welcome! This has been covered a few times and a lot of it depends on your Router/Modem/ISP and settings on your machine. In my view its best to talk to someone about it instead of pages of posts, but in general: 1. Confirm your your ISP that they will support port forwarding (apparently many don't). 2. Give your (host) machine a static IP address. 3. Forward more ports than you have mentioned (its not just "2300-2400": 4. Make sure you support the right protocols - its not just TCP or UDP, its and. 5. Make sure your friend is trying to connect to the "right" IP address - the WAN address provided by "whatsmyIP" or other sites. 6. Make sure you are both using the same version of Steel Beasts Pro PE. Those are the general steps, but usually it boils down to something unique. The good news is that the "client" (your friend) doesn't need to do anything. Not sure where/what time zone you are in but I have 2 hours from the time of this post, if you want to talk through it. Flash187
Thank you for your reply. I am pretty sure thats what I did with the Ports. I will put a picture of my Port settings so you can see if I did it right or not. (When doing a Port Scanner, it says Port is closed) The IP my friend tried to join was definitely not the one showing for me on "whatismyIP.org". He tried joining my IPv4 IP. So that might be one problem. We are both on the same Version of SB. It´s the newest installer from the Website. I think its Version 4.379. I´m in Europe so its pretty late for me but you can Add me on Discord if you like so we can talk. theflash0630 Edited November 19 by Flash187
Gibsonm
Re the screenshot. I can't read German but the two buttons look like you can pick TCP or UDP? Perhaps you need two screens, one for UDP and one with TCP selected? Similarly do you need two screens for 47624 with TCP and UDP?

The traffic goes there and then because you have port forwarding enabled it is "forwarded" from the modem/router to your specific machine.

Flash187
The Screenshot says: Triggering Port 2300 Triggering Protocol TCP Ports to open TCP 2300-2300 TCP 2400-2400 UDP 47624-47624 Edited November 19 by Flash187
Gibsonm
Right so using that terminology what you need is: Triggering Port 2300 to 2400 (a range of ports, not 1). Triggering Protocol TCP Ports to open TCP 2300-2400 TCP 47624-47624 Triggering Port 2300 to 2400 (a range of ports, not 1). Triggering Protocol UDP Ports to open UDP 2300-2400 UDP 47624-47624 As I say it depends on the Router modem but to me: 11 minutes ago, Flash187 said: Ports to open TCP 2300-2300 Means you have only opened only one port (2300), not a range of ports (2300, 2301,2302, ...... 2400). In my screenshot the particular Router uses ":" to indicate a range ("from", "to" if you like). Edited November 19 by Gibsonm

Administrators Sean Posted November 19 Administrators Share Posted November 19 At this point, this should be all that is needed to host: 2300 UDP 2400 UDP

As I result I just go with the full solution at the start. Edited November 19 by Gibsonm
Members Ssnake
Opening a lot of ports for no good reason isn't exactly recommended, TBH. It's a few hundred more chinks in your computer's cyber armor. Since version 4.1 at least, only the Host needs to open two ports, not a whole range of them.
Gibsonm
Yes I understand that. But I have had numerous instances where I've started with just those two and then, often a few hours later, resorted to using the "old" settings and things have worked.
ripper253
Opening ports is a good step, but it's possible there's more to it. First, make sure both you and your friend have the same game version. Sometimes, even a minor version difference can cause issues. Also, double-check your firewall settings and make sure Steel Beasts has the necessary permissions. Sometimes, it's not just about port forwarding but also allowing the game through your firewall.
