****Pro PE File Paths****

If there is a .raw file it indicates an SB1 scenario.

The .pln file goes in the same folder as the scenario (but is currently non-functional - the return is much anticipated but not imminent).

The .raw file is a terrain file and goes in the appdata branch. As the .ter file is incorporated in the .scn file it is common for the .raw file to be the custom height file (but not exclusively so). Try placing it is your appdata path...

Look at the sticky just below where there is a discussion on migrating scenarios from SB1 to SB2.xx

Uh? .ter is written out by the ProPE map editor. The height map requires Pro, and this may be the origin of non- .hgt format height map files.

If you use the 'old' BMP format to produce a .RAW height map then this makes sense.

Otherwise I remain confused.

I have a few 'donated' heightmaps produced kindly by Pro Users from raw Dted data or converted SRTM-3/Aster GDEM data. I also have one .raw map required by an SB1 conversion (and for which the compression apparently was not successful when conversion was attempted).

In my .ter folder I have 100s of 'test/scratch' terrain files produced or modified by myself using ProPE. These are all .ter files. The only .raw file in here is from SB1 - metropolis.raw

BOTH the terrain and height map files in SB1 had the .raw suffix; terrain and height maps in SB Pro can be compressed or not. Thus a .raw file can be renamed to .ter OR to .hgt, depending on what it is, without the need to actually convert the file. However, you still need to figure out the nature of a .raw file in order to put it into the proper folder.

XP = Vista

My Documents = C:\Users\{user_name}\Documents

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data = C:\ProgramData

C:\Documents and Settings\{user_name}\Application Data = C:\Users\{user_name}\AppData\Roaming

This looks like the same as Windows 7, that is:

XP = Vista or Windows 7.

hi folks ive downloaded some of the single player scenarios for my latest version of SB PRO PE.

they are .SCR files which i copied into my directory........... C:\Program Files\eSim Games\SB Pro PE\loc\English (US)\Scenarios\Single

but they dont show up in the game under offline session / scenarios.

by the way i read the first posts outlining the filepaths, but couldnt see the ones directly relating to .SCR files and where to put them.

just unsure whether they go into the above named folder or into the "hidden" C:/username/ docs settings...

any advice would be helpful.

thanks in advance.

For Numpties ( I consider myself an educated one, now.)

Windows 7 follows the Vista File paths detailed below.

This is straight from the manual - either bookmark it or print it out, you will need it if you plan on doing any tinkering with scenarios or maps, etc.

PERSONAL: The directory that serves as a repository for a user’s personal

files. A typical path is: “C:\Documents and Settings\username\MyDocuments\

eSimGames\Steel Beasts” .

For VISTA: “C:\Users\username\Documents\eSimGames\Steel Beasts” .

The PERSONAL directory contains:

Personal scenarios

Saved images

Exported files

Mission reports

Personal mods (e.g., skins and sounds)

Saved Plans

This directory is created for the user when he runs Steel Beasts for the first

time. (Each user, of course, has his own PERSONAL directory.) This is the only

directory that most users will have an interest in (to look at saved images, or

read a mission report, for example).

COMMON_APPDATA: The directory containing application data for all users.

A typical path is “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\eSim

Games\Steel Beasts”.

For VISTA: “C:\ProgramData\eSimGames\Steel Beasts”.

The COMMON_APPDATA directory contains

Map files (Height and Terrain)

Common (shared) scenario files

The system administrator might want to restrict write-permission to this folder in

order to prevent users from modifying these files. In this case, only users with

write-permissions to this directory will be able to use the map editor.

********NOTE*********

This folder is normally hidden. In order to see it, you will have to

go to tools->folder options, select the view tab, and choose "show hidden files and folders in order to see it.

*********************

APPDATA: The directory that serves as a repository for application-specific

data. A typical path is: “C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\

eSim Games\Steel Beasts”.

For VISTA: "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\eSim Games\Steel Beasts"

The APPDATA directory contains

Options file

Records file (ppf file)

LOCAL_APPDATA: The directory that serves as a data repository for local

(nonroaming) applications. A typical path is “C:\Documents and Settings\

username\Local Settings\Application Data\eSim Games\Steel Beasts”.

The LOCAL_APPDATA directory contains

Temporary ground texture files

PROGRAM_FILES: The directory containing those files necessary to run Steel

Beasts. A typical path is “C:\Program Files\eSim Games\SB Pro”. Files within

this directory should not be modified. Typically, only the system administrator

has the permission necessary to modify these files, and hence to install Steel

Beasts.

I'm completely new for Win7, and I have been reading through this thread in terms of Win7. I have managed to find the maps and scenarios folder but the "config" folder is still "missing". Where do I find the folder where you used to have your profile and config file? There are some folders that i cannot access (restricted), I read on the net i should be disabling "UAC" first... but I cant find an option for that within the profile settings.

To disable "UAC" under Windows 7 press "Windows Key" (right of the left ctrl key) + "R" and enter "msconfig". In the appearing window choose the right tab (should be called "tools"), select "Change UAC settings" and click the "start" button. Now drag the slider on the left to the bottom and click "Ok". Maybe you have to restart your system to take effect.

Maybe some options called a little bit different than i wrote, because i have a german windows version. Just look for similar options with the same meaning. If you still have problems to find it, i'll make some sreenshots.

Hope that helped.

From the Windows 7 on line help:

Turn User Account Control on or off

User Account Control (UAC) can help prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. UAC notifies you when changes are going to be made to your computer that require administrator-level permission. These types of changes can affect the security of your computer or can affect settings for other people that use the computer. We recommend that you leave UAC on to help make your computer secure.

Go to the Windows website to watch the video. (1:11)

1. Click to open User Account Control Settings.

2. Do one of the following:

To turn off UAC, move the slider to the Never notify position, and then click OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. You will need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off.

To turn on UAC, move the slider to choose when you want to be notified, and then click OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

For more information about your notification options, see What are User Account Control settings?

If you go to the "help and Support" choice on the Windows/start menu and type in "Turn User Account Control on or off" you should see this window.

"1." is a link and clicking on it will take you to the window with the slider.

Ok found the slider, adjusted it down all the way o the lowest seting (actually it was already there). Restarted the Computer, tried to open Documents and settings, but still I am getting access denied message...?!

Windows 7 follows the Vista File paths detailed below.

This statement is incorrect. Win 7 file path for maps and scenarios is

C:\ProgramData\eSim Games\Steel Beasts

Perhaps this could be edited into a stiky thingy @ the top of this thread? It would save time and help out some new users.

I stand corrected. I was visually confused when I went back quickly to find file path and saw the lower half of text that had "APPDATA" when I should have been looking for "COMMON_APPDATA" This is what happens when one is sitting around waiting for the release of 3.0 and has nothing better to do.....or should wear glasses.....
