Stratos
Hello! For me the most interesting thing about those pics, is the realistic look of the "new"?? building and power lines, they really add more inmersion to the game, but tell me please, will they be in future SB updates?
Members Ssnake
Right now it is a demonstrator by TerraSim to show the capabilities of their terrain database management system. We modified the classroom version for this a little bit so that those among our army customers who need correlated terrain across several simulations can use this solution to further improve their training. Correlated terrain is the prerequisite to link different virtual simulations. If, to name an example, an infantry units wants ot use a simulation to train the collaboration with armored fighting vehicles, and the infantry guys need fire support on a specific target, and they are reporting "bad guys in position with recoilless rifle. Twelve-hundred, two o'clock, yellow two-story house on hill. Next to tree on the right of that house, over!" you want to see a yellow two-story building there, and a tree to the right of it. It must not be a red house, it must not have anything but two stories to avoid artificial confusion and friction. The key to this is "correlated terrain" that looks identical, or at least near-identical in both virtual worlds. TerraTools make sure that this correlation will exist. In order to accomplish that it must have a way to export building models that were made for a different simulation into Steel Beasts Pro, even if SB Pro doesn't have these buildings in its object library. So we modified SB Pro in a way to accept 3D models as a part of a map. Unfortunately this means that all these buildings are NOT part of the Steel Beasts object library. You won't have access to them in the map editor. But maybe this opens the door to a way how 3D models may make their way into SB Pro in the future. Clearly a lot of work still needs to be done. But I thought that this was too fantastic - in principle - to be kept a secret.
Stratos
Really really interesting. More interest in a real combined arms training, can be more money to you guys and more update to us. So keep up the good work and thanks for the complete explanation.
GH_Lieste
One thing that caught my eye was the support in the Terra-base database/export for tunnels. I appreciate this may be intended for infantry level tunnels/sewers but it would also be nice to have railway, road and canal tunnels in vehicle sized formats.
Hedgehog
So, to obtain these uber cool new buildings, we're goin to have to invest in TerraSim?
CalAB
So, to obtain these uber cool new buildings, we're goin to have to invest in TerraSim?As I understand the websites explaination if let's say the infantry of a givin army is using a certain map and part of the exercise is to have armour move in to support but the armour is in a different simulator then with this tool the entire map, buildings etc would be brought in to the tank sim so that the exercise in comp world would match up between the two software sims. Real cool
Members Ssnake
So, to obtain these uber cool new buildings, we're goin to have to invest in TerraSim?The TerraTools alone would NOT give you the maps, you'd still need to build terrain databases as well as acquire the artwork for the buildings. At this point it really is just a demonstrator, and a new capability of the classroom version. I really can't say where this may lead us with respect to SB Pro PE. As a minimum, this may be the first step towards an import function for 3rd party buildings and landscape objects although I'm not quite sure whether we could integrate imported buildings into the object library, and what that would mean for the exchange of map and scenario files. It really is way too early to make a statement here.
