dejawolf
i think he should have a worldwide petition to raise the $200 million he needs to create a full-size fusion reactor.
Grenny
Well, we would be a lot further if they would finaly sum up the money to build the ITER system. Only downside is that this will be in france ;-)Didn't watch all the lecture...not much news in it :-P

flyboy
Well if you believe Stan Friedman (Atomic Scientist and Roswell expert) the US government has had fusion for about 30 odd years. In secret of course.
Members Ssnake
Sorry, I zoned out with the words "Roswell expert". But anyway, the running gag of fusion - just like "AI" - is that "we'll have a working reactor in about 40 years from now", and it's been like that since the past 40 years or longer. The problem with these guys is, as a scientific community they have demolished their reputation for making reasonable predictions about their chances of success and the required time frame - and constantly so, for decades. I'm not saying that what they're trying to do cannot work, but I understand the hesitation of science/engineering subsidy budget managers to direct more money into these channels when past performance has been mediocre or even an utter failing.

Members Ssnake
That being said, I totally respect Dr. Bussard for his work, and yeah, it'd be totally cool if it worked out, and I hope he'll end up in the engineering and physics hall of fame with his concept. He certainly has earned it, if it works.
