Google Earth

Hello, tankers.

If anyone's a stickler for accuracy as much as I am, and if you happen to use Google Earth for terrain references, this may be useful.

This Google Earth file drops grid lines at intervals of 1 km by 1 km and greater, which may help with terrain measurements when transferring them over to Steel Beasts.

Now, if there was a way to transfer Google Earth imagery to a Steel Beasts map...

Good hunting.

The highest resolution images that are free are around 15m.

(1 image pixel = 15m sq.)

Google Earth uses up to 0.5m resolution images, which are copyrighted.

($4000 for 10Nm circle. Ouch)

A tile painting process of loading the ground texture imagery onto the map would be a possibility (copyright wise, as eSim already own those images) but it would be a bit confusing to the untrained eye, as well as giving your PC a good graphic crunching workout.

Think Map Editor style coloured areas with the in-action phase ground textures.
