Zipuli
Gibson, Here's a quick peek of what is to expect from the 2nd mission for Crazyhorse. I will create the scenario tomorrow, and it'll run "in coordination" with the MP mission 1, which means that you will receive radio intel of what is happening with the main body north of you - all according to what actually happens tonight. Hopefully it'll be another interesting mission for you! As you could read from previous threads, and see on this map here, you will be screening the SQN right flank. You will receive engineer support from 43rd Combat Engineer Company as you may well run into scattered minefields, if this is the enemy flank... Also flank guards are supposed to be present... unless this is a route for another enemy spearhead, which you should recognize and try to deal with, preventing them from running into SQN right flank while they try to delay the enemy main attack! PS. Also attached is a cool image of one of your BFVs in Lerbeck... Really cool new house & Brad models
Gibsonm
Sir, Thanks for the update! I hadn’t noticed before that nice long stretch of the E30 going through the woods (got short range contact / ambush written all over it). The boys are itching to go.
Zipuli
Porta Westfalica June 15th 1988, 0440hrs Most important events and radio chatter heard during last 30 minutes: 0408 - Apache lead element passes 2/C positions, 2/C confirms visual on M1A1s and BFVs following. 0410 - Artillery and smoke fall into Klus, 4/C confirms. 0414 - 4/C reports Apache attacking Klus and crossing road 65 to north. Heavy firing at Klus. 2/C reports Apache maintenance section passed their positions. Brief radio contact with withdrawing West German unit: "Any Amerikaner units, hier WALROSS. We are what is left of ze German Bataillon from Wunstorf. We have ze Ruskies right on our tail und our ammo ist seht low! Help, please... (connection lost) ...und as far as we know, we are ze last NATO forces coming out alive hier! Quick, hilf... (connection permanently lost)" 0417 - Enemy artillery falling on the intersection of Roads 65 and 482. 4/C confirms visual. Heavy fighting at Klus. 0418 - A Troop informs Klus is clear of enemy. 4/C and CO/C receive green light to move back to Porta Westfalica. 0420 - A Troop reports contact with ATGM units at Berenbusch. A Troop fires King Battery to Berenbusch. 0424 - A Troop reports their lead element being under ATGM attack from Berenbusch. Damage received. 0431 - A Troop reports losing 2 tanks to ATGM fire. Heavy artillery sounds heard from Bückeburg direction. A Troop reports taking Röcke. 0433 - A Troop reports Hinds from north! 1 tank and 2 BFVs lost north of Klus to Hind fire. B Troop reports reaching Porta Westfalica. 0437 - Hinds are reported being shot down or withdrawn leaving a smoke trail. German units spotted north of Bückeburg, they seem to have contact with the enemy. B Troop passes 2/C, visual established. C Troop gets green light to pull all units back to Porta Westfalica. C troop "Crazyhorse" XO meets Squadron CO "Tiger Actual" at Porta Möbel. Sound of heavy fighting heard from the north: "Major, We are heavily engaged at Röcke. Squadron main body is fighting there as you can hear in the comms. We got our right flank more ore less open for enemy attacks... Only intel from that direction is the recon platoon you killed on route E30. Other than that, there should have been more retreating NATO forces from that direction, as informed by the M60 crews, but nothing has been heard of them. We presume the enemy is using the Kleinenbremen area for an attack route around 1st Squadron to Minden... The enemy mech forces have so far avoided going into urban areas, as they present too big an obstacle for speed. So you should not be too worried about enemy units lurking inside the buildings in towns... Should not! Your mission: 1) Probe along E30, destroy any enemies encountered and secure line Concord at Kleinenbremen - Todenmann area. Establish contact with Bandit at Wülpke (using CO or XO vehicle and moving it to the ref point marked on your tactical map). Prevent enemy from using the Kleinenbremen corridor for attacks towards Minden. 2) Screen the Squadron right flank by taking Line Caboose at Bad Eilsen - Buchholz - Steinbergen area. Support: In addition to your 2 107mm mortars, King Battery (6 x M109, 155mm) will support you with HE and SM fires - ICM fires are all given to main attack... You will also receive platoon from 43rd Combat Engineer Company for breaching and marking minefields in cooperation with your plow units. 6/C has also made it in the area and is joining your company as soon as it gets here, shouldn't be more than 5 minutes! Remember that force preservation is of utmost importance, but failing to take Kleinenbremen may turn out catastrofic for the SQN later on! We're counting on you! Good luck! And keep that intel coming!" Mission begins 0440hrs, visibility is still "only" 2500m. Mission time is 90 minutes. There is +20% random added, but ONLY TO GATHER INFO ON AMMO AND DAMAGE ON VEHICLES. So after 90 minutes stop the attack, and go through the ammo and damage for vehicles. Post them as a list with the AAR -file, so I can incorporate them into your next mission! Attached is the scenario file! Hope you and the boys have fun! gibson_mission_2.zip
Gibsonm
Wilco. As per SOP, back brief via PM later today and if in line with your intent will back brief CO on these means.
Gibsonm
OK had some RL issues but back in the saddle now. As PMs don’t support attachments, I’ll post the SoM here and if Hardrock is happy the CO will have visibility too. The area to my East between my location and DIE EMME looks like a pretty good engagement area and I suspect the KLEINENBREMEN - TODENMANN defile will be defended with a probably obstacle belt and perhaps a MR PL (+). I also suspect that some dismounted elements of the MR PL that was destroyed on the E30 (wrecks in the EA) may have survived. I thought of attempting to bypass this block by sending units along route “A” but it wont spt more than say 2 x M1 and 2 x M2 and no doubt it wont have missed the attention of his engineers (or FASCAM missions). Proposed COA: TP complete traverse the Northern side of the EA (Left flank shielded by the terrain) and assault the Southern end of the obstacle belt (roughly the area DIE EMME and North to the secondary road) that should give me some open ground without trying to pick my way through the forest nearer the E30 (with the subsequent reduction in frontage / cbt power). This assault to be supported by smoke/HE and the Engr travelling two bounds behind who will follow the axis of assault but will then turn and follow the E30 and recce / clear any obstacles in the area where the E30 passes through the forest. Once the suspected Soviet position at the junction is cleared, the TP will conduct the following subsequent ops: 1. CO + Tk PL + M3 PL to move North into KLEINENBREMEN along route “1”. CO to continue along route B to RV with B TP CO. Tk PL + M3 PL to clear KLEINENBREMEN. Tk PL + M3 PL to occupy overwatch positions into Northern EA to deny high speed route. 2. XO and M3 PL to move along route “2” and establish block on E30 and spt fires into Northern EA. 3. Plough Tk PL to spt Engr effort to reduce obstacles on E30 BPT block En adv from vic TODENMANN BPT to provide TP Situational Reserve 4. FO to provide anchor OP to spt initial assault. Then move with XO to observe into Northern EA. 5. Admin elm to move fwd to LOHFELD on order. Movement East from CONCORD to CABOOSE maybe difficult given the overriding requirement for force preservation. Although good M3 BPs could well provide TOW engagements as far East as CABOOSE, but not the same as “boots on the ground”. For Co-Ord and deconfliction I’ll rename “Northern EA” to something the S3 is happy with.
Zipuli
Roger, sounds like a solid plan! As long as CABOOSE is in range of your AT weapons and under surveillance, the SQN intent is fulfilled for this mission. Good luck, major! Out!
Gibsonm
Mission time is 90 minutes. There is +20% random added, but ONLY TO GATHER INFO ON AMMO AND DAMAGE ON VEHICLES. So after 90 minutes stop the attack, and go through the ammo and damage for vehicles. Post them as a list with the AAR -file, so I can incorporate them into your next mission! Are there any final questions?Well yes actually. Can I send you the HTML report that is generated at the end of the mission? I’ve done a test today and can import it into Excel, strip out all the Target = Red lines and what’s left is the damage to Blue. It also has a listing of ammunition consumption by vehicle.Happy to send this to Kingtiger as an OPDEM for the next battle to make up any shortfall. In addition this gives you a time stamp of when the damage is inflicted so if the Soviets press the attack (I’m sure they aren’t going to stop when the 90 min bell rings) then hopefully I can get “back” all the stuff damaged / destroyed between H+90 and whenever the battle actually finishes?

Gibsonm
OK have sat down with the S2 and Guns and cleaned up the SoM that I gave HARDROCK yesterday: Situation En: Likely EA to the East between the C TP FEBA and DIE EMME. Suspect improvised En security position (basically dismounts from destroyed BMPs) vic TAI 1. Suspected larger position (MR PL with perhaps Tk spt) astride the KLEINENBREMEN - TODENMANN defile. Expect this to be supported by with a hasty obstacle belt, denoted by the Obs zone “?” on trace. Endorsed COA: TP Assault on Obs zone vic TAI 2 supported by fires on TAI 1 and 2. Once position penetrated, move to and secure OBJ1 at Rd Junction at Southern edge of KLEINENBREMEN - TODENMANN defile. As Tks and CFV fight through TAI 2 the Engr travelling two bounds behind will follow the axis of assault but will then turn and follow the E30 and recce / clear any obstacles in the area where the E30 passes through the forest on the Northern side of the suspected Obs zone. XO to travel with this packet. HMMWV detached to conduct slow recce of SPADE route. If they do encounter mines they are to return, if not then provide Early Warning if Soviets use this route. Once the suspected Soviet position at the junction is cleared, the TP will conduct the following subsequent ops: 1. CO + Tk PL + CFV PL to move North into KLEINENBREMEN along CLUB route. CO to continue along CLUB route and onto G route to RV with B TP CO. Will report in when crossing the TP boundary. Tk PL + CFV PL to clear KLEINENBREMEN. Tk PL to occupy BP3 orientated to engage into EA HEARTACHE. CFV PL to occupy BP4 orientated to engage into EA HEARTACHE. 2. XO and CFV PL to continue on E30, est BP2, orientated to engage into EA HEARTACHE. XO to control fires in EA and allocate sectors per nature / call sign. 3. Tk PL with Plough to spt Engr effort to reduce obstacles on E30 BPT occupy BP1 IOT block En adv from vic TODENMANN BPT to provide TP Situational Reserve 4. FO to provide anchor OP to spt initial assault. Co-Ord fires into TAI 1 (VT1001 and VT1002) and TAI 2 (VT1003 and VT1004). Then move with XO to observe into EA HEARTACHE. Declare other VTs (VT1001 - VT1016 in use) “unsafe” as required. HVTs = SPAA, Tk, IFV in that order. 5. Admin elm to move fwd to LOHFELD on order. M88 BPT to come fwd and effect recovery / repair on order. Once TP is firm in BPs 1 - 4 will assess the requirement to move fwd to Line CABOOSE, but suspect that: a. The Soviets will come to me, rather than me needing to go to them, and b. May need to settle for Line CABOOSE being covered by fire and observation instead of being held. More appropriate Trace attached. Currently conducting last components of Battle Procedure, have made some fine adjustments in the FUP on the assumption that this is a “go”. Tk PL still denying Eastern approach along E30. Questions? Edited January 20, 2011 by Gibsonm
